want type of grease to use because nobody has ever been able to rebuild
them. I think you will find when you get it apart its going to need
more than grease to keep it from getting stuck.

George Murphy's article on fixing them looks pretty plausible to me.
It's about 6MB of PDF. I hope I never have to try it.

They've gone up to obscenely expensive, if they're even still available.
Good used are few and far between. That's why the re-engineered digital
system is now available. All the servos are interchangeable, even the
ones from Chryslers IIRC.

Can only find used or rebuilt units. Both still have the same inherent

I think so, and it is *expensive*!! Think four digits.

Possible but not likely. And if you do find a good one, it will be
really close to the price of the aftermarket electronic replacement

This is really the only solution unless you want to roll your own... it
is pricey, but maintains full functionality of the original system.

This is the way to go. Clean system, works nicely and efficiently. The
installation can be made a bit nicer than the instructions call for,
but the product itself is quite sound. This product makes owning an
ACCII car worthy of contemplation once again.

Servos should be sold on a lease basis. It is only a matter of time

2009-02-19 Thread E M
Hi Guys,

I've managed to download a number of FLV files from YouTube, but I still
can't figure out how ot convert them into different formats. When I open
the files, the want to play in my Firefox browser, which is ok, but I'm
looking for a way to convert them into .avi or find a stand alone FLV
player.

I'd also want to get an iPod Touch, and load these videos onto it, so I'm
not sure the best way to do that, or to what fromat they must be converted?

Thanks in advance for you help.

But now that you have the file, open Firefox. Then click file
open file... and point it to the .xpi file you downloaded. It
 will do the same install dance the others were talking about;
asks permission, does some magic, tells you it won't be active
 until you restart Firefox.

Photos of the decrepit B-47 cockpits really sadden me - I remember them as
being clean, active, functional and ready to fly or having just flown all
night the night before, etc. 'Hard to realize it's been nearly 50 years.
Another reminder that time goes too fast.

If you have a Mac, you can get a freeware (or shareware, I'm not sure cause I
haven't used it in some time) application called Tube TV that will grab FLV
and other video files from web pages and save them to your machine. Might even
do it in QT, but it's been too long for me to recall.

Know of anything that will grab a TV show from, say, NBC?

VideoLan VLC will play FLVs, but if you want to convert them to
something, try Super (search for super video converter erightsoft, the
web site is weird but the program is very good, and free). Sometimes it
has trouble putting flvs in other formats (might be a problem with the
flv file, not sure), but in general the pgm does what it is advertised
to do. The program is processor-intensive, best to set up a bunch of
files then let it run overnight or when you are not otherwise using the
computer. Super is also good to take vids and make them so they fit on
your media player.

There are a variety of Firefox add-ins that will grab videos and save
them in a file, I have a couple but there are probably others.

And even seeing the edge does not help often. We were there some years
ago, driving from one end of the island out to the other, over a ridge
with a sharp drop of maybe 300ft on the inbound side, and there was a
little circus there trying to recover 2 (!!) cars that were down in the
brush about 150ft. down the hillside. We stopped to see if anyone was
hurt, and the guys were sort of amazed anyone cared -- apparently it was
a fairly common occurrence at that point in the road, and they just
dealt with it. One said both drivers been drunk the night before and
just drove over the edge and rolled a few times down the hillside,
without significant damage to the drivers. The cars were a bit crunched
but not too bad. No problem mon.

What operating system are you using? If you are using Windows, then you want

Best Video for iPod Touch is H.264 MP4 as that is the format that is used by

It
will do the same install dance the others were talking about;
asks permission, does some magic, tells you it won't be active
until you restart Firefox.

I use Videolan's VLC Media Player.

In Linux, I use mplayer. VLC is good software from what I hear.
