Re: [MBZ] Steering gear shaft leak on '83 300D....was: Test

2011-03-10 Thread Hans Neureiter
I recently did it on my '82 300SD. The gearbox on your car is identical.
Simple job.Lift car high enough to get under it.
Make sure position of steering arm is marked. If not, mark it.
Remove sterring arm with puller.
Remove internal Circlip.
Drill small hole (1/8) in to seal and screw in wood screw for pulling seal.
Use a 1 PVC pipe coupling to drive new seal home.
Reassemble.

Noticed a very small leak from the steering gear
on my '83 300D yesterday. Fluid level still on the
 mark.
Someone mentioned putting an MB on a lift and
and replacing the shaft seal but I don't remember
 which model/year.
Does anyone know if the shaft seal can be replaced
without removing the steering gear on an '83 300D?
 Thanks,
 Gerry

Sounds logical, yes. You need to look at the schematic

Re: [MBZ] ACCII Talk (long)

2011-03-10 Thread OK Don
Just to verify, this is the Chrysler servo system? When one of the vacuum
pods under the dash leaked too much to actuate, the ACC in my '78 450SLC
would default to full heat, IIRC. I never tried to fix it - so don't even
know which pod it was (or how many might be more accurate).

What in hell is a 4matic mercedes? I came up behind one today. 530 something

Are rear bumpers still available new or used? My 1984 300D had it's
  fall off yesterday.

Mine ('83) did that, it corroded under the glue. I put on a used one from
 the junkyard.

Re: [MBZ] Are their two size rear bumpers for the 123's....yes and no?

2011-03-10 Thread Hendrik Fay
You'd think that they have an arrow to indicate direction or at least an
F or R stampeded on them.
Anyway I reckon this one will make it to the okiebenz classic quotes
section.
However there are two types of bumpers used on the W123, one is the
solid type and the other has plastic on the ends.
