Re: [MBZ] Slow day
I have been out screwing around with my GL again. Just got it back on the road after the transfer case replacement, now all the sudden I am getting a airmatic malfunction warning in the dash. I can't seem to even access the airmatic module via DAS. Something in the front SAM is causing it I believe and all the tests I run keep coming back to what is basically the fancy electronic ignition key. Strange thing is that it passes all the tests and comes up with no error codes. It is like there is some circuit that tells some other computer module to turn on the airmatic. No leaks, the system just will not turn on. So, it appears its either the ignition, the front SAM, wiring, or a bad relay, but I have swapped relays around in the fuse box and that does not cure it, so I am pretty sure I have eliminated that as a problem (relay that is ). So I go back to ignition switch or front SAM. On 5/11/2014 3:39 PM, WILTON wrote: Mighty slow day; 'hope it means everybody MBs have not problems, but could mean everybody's out workin' on 'em. Heat?! In Michigan?! Oh, that must be SOUTHERN Michigan. ;) Reminds me: On July 4th weekend at Kincheloe (20 south of Ste. I left the house for little while to go to BX; while I was out, 17-year-old daughter shoveled/scattered the pile around into the sun; pile was gone by next afternoon. This does not appear to be an airmatic problem per se, something is preventing it from working, another system, and I keep getting lead back to ignition switch, which seems wierd. in order for it to be replaced, all sorts of coding has to be done with special workshop keys, a green key, a red key so on and so forth. Is the GL the new 140, great when working? We have discussed the use of technology in cars before I believe but it's doomed. All these computers and systems are bound to fail eventually. The Japanese seem to be better at making this stuff work but what is the lifespan of these electronics? Especially in a vehicular environment. Someone sent in a tip on the OzBenz list regarding cruise control amps, bake them in an oven for 5 minutes to fix dead solder connections, I was skeptical but someone on the list tried it on a dead amp and low and behold it worked. However apparently it gets a bit stinky sue to the coating on these. Electrics have always been an Achilles heel of sorts for MB (and others I suppose) OVP relays, EZL units, climate control units, electronic control in 722.5/6 boxes, etc. Now we have more complex systems than ever before and I don't think these things are that reliable. The magic chicken ride system in the new S sounds scary complex. Hendrik who should buy a Diesel 123 and keep it forever On 12/05/14 09:07, Kaleb C. Yeah but where not talking 20+ year old glow plug relays or cruise control stuff. We are talking a car that is not long out of warranty. As Kaleb said, replacing the mechanical bits is relatively easy when compared to chasing a fault in the software/hardware or wherever it may be.
