Re: [MBZ] Parts
It depends on what you need. There is no longer a one call source like Rusty was. AutohausAZ.com has some things, some I buy from rockauto.com With both of these and any online source, you need to make sure you are getting OEM parts or OE parts. Even them some products are made in asia and are inferior. Some Bosch products being a notable example. (spark plugs and wires, but you don't need them) Most folks have dumped Bosch injector nozzles in favor of Monarch FLAPS have some items, but again you need to be careful of the source. There are dealers that offer decent discounts, and if you want OE, they are generally a safer bet. The better ones advertise in the Star. If you want names and phone numbers, let me know and I will look them up for you. For keys, the dealer is the best place. For filters and such where you can specify the manufacturer and part number, autohaus AZ generally beat other prices, except maybe rockauto. For used parts: car-part.com is good for locating who around has a 240D or 123, and it can be used to determine interchangeability in many cases. (see what they list as interchangeable) Dr. Fatty has been mentioned. If you like abuse, you can try him. I don't buy there. You can also post your needs here, and sometimes someone has what you need, or at least will suggest where to buy. Re: [MBZ] Parts
Curly has hit it pretty much dead on. While I have bought from Dr. Fatty, I have found time over time that I can almost always get (the same) things cheaper elsewhere. While I do like to support small business, when it's a 20%-30% difference or more, my wallet does the talking. A good example was a new Nippondenso AC compressor I just bought. Compressor, a set of O rings and a Behr receiver dryer were under $400 shipped from AutohausAZ. Dr. Fatty was more like $480 without the O rings. Between my dealer, AutohausAZ, FLAPS and others I have pretty much found everything I need at the price point and quality I desire. As Curly has indicated, you just have to be an informed shopper and buy accordingly. The days of a one stop shopping experience when it comes to parts is pretty much gone as far as I'm concerned. Here's a surprise: a wiper refill for the passenger side on the 95 S500 from the dealer is $12. Aftermarket junk would be close to that if you could find the correct refill. Dan Sent from my iPad On Apr 6, 2015, at 2:32 PM, Curly McLain 126die...@gmail.com wrote: It depends on what you need. Hello everyone, I haven't needed any major parts for my 83 240D lately and since Rusty went out of business I don't know who to call. Where do you get parts for a 240D? I may have told this story before so if it sounds familiar, hit the delete key. Not sure if it is a true story or just a joke with a punch line? In any event, it goes like this. . . A woman with a cart full of groceries and a couple of small children is standing in a shopping centre parking lot looking lost. A fellow shopper asks if he can assist her in some way. She says she cannot recall where she parked her car. He offers to help her locate the car and asks what kind of car and what color it is. She says it is either a Ford or a Chevy and it is either blue or green (- typical woman?) But, she tells him, the driver's side front hubcap is missing. So, he goes up and down the rows until he finds a blue Ford with a missing left front hubcap and it turns out to be her car. The really odd thing about it all, was that there was a bright red canoe strapped on the roof, that she had forgotten all about. Re: [MBZ] Parts
While I have come to his defense in the past, I have found that over the last year or so he's become less and less responsive to my inquiries. My last effort to patronize him was for the AC compressor that described earlier, and when it was clear that he would be far more expensive for less stuff, it didn't make sense to buy from him. At 20% more for less stuff from the same supplier, there is no incentive to buy from him. I bear him no ill will, there's just no motivation to pay more, and sometimes substantially more, for the same thing I can get from others for less. With this in mind, I'm pretty much sticking to the list of places in this thread. In a lot of cases I am just plugging in the MB part number to Google and seeing what comes back. For example, I just bought a pair of rear springs for the S500 coupe a few minutes ago on eBay. For the price of one spring from Mercedes I got two from a highly rated supplier in Miami who will have them on my doorstep by Friday. A Lesjofor spring is a Lesjofor spring, no matter who it comes from. AutohausAZ seems to be very popular on BenzWorld, but as Curly stated earlier you have to be careful, as they sell URO crap right along side everything else. They are really good on grossly overpriced Mercedes stuff, such as O-rings for oiler tubes on the M119 - $2.00+/ea from the dealer, something like $0.38/ea from AutohausAZ using the same OEM supplier. Otherwise, it's the dealer, especially for suspension and safety related parts. Dan On Apr 6, 2015, at 5:44 PM, Randy Bennell rbenn...@bennell.ca wrote: And free insults. I found a media report on the incident Andrew cited, but only after reading through numerous (more recent) stories where a Fairfax homeowners used a firearm to defend against armed burglars. According to the account I read, this was an obviously bad shoot, it sounded similar to the Erik Scott case. I expect that cop/shooter will need a different line of work; he doesn't appear to have the judgment to be a cop or to carry a gun. But then my confidence in the media report is limited. I would be interested in the outcome of the police shooting investigation on this one. That's what I like about the dealer. I go out of my way to anticipate my needs and therefore always have them place my orders on a stock order. This means it takes about 2-3 days to get the part to the dealership depending on what depot it's located at and when they place the order. This gives the dealer more profit margin, as they get discounts on stock orders from MBUSA since they're not a rush or next day shipment. When I need something in a hurry I can ask them to VOR (overnight) it so I have it the next morning and they don't mind doing it. Parts on VOR do not get shipping discounts from MBUSA. Re: [MBZ] Parts
Dave, thanks for that link to MBnorthlake. I just compared the price for the right side tie rod assembly for my '87 wagon. Dealer in Atlanta online price is $75, local stealership wants 101.25, NorthLake price: $52.50! I needed an alignment last week after I replaced the inner bushings on the lower control arms, the shop (Gerald's Tires) couldn't get the right side tie-rods to adjust (read: they didn't want to muck about with rusty parts, I should have spent some time loosening all that up before I took the car in). Local big parts place wanted $300 for just the tie rod ends, local dealer had the complete assembly in stock (!) and quoted the price as $75 over the phone. When I showed up in person they tried to charge me $101.25 and declared they no longer offer a MBCA discount. I said I had been quoted $75 over the phone and that was also the online price offered by other dealerships, and then I got I'll have to talk to the manager about that and then they caved and gave me the special price. No one rioted or demonstrated! This is not a Ferguson situation. The question was also raised as to why the Gentle Giant ran from the traffic stop, which might either have been profiling or due to ongoing failure to pay child support for his kids to his babymomma(s) with whom he was thinking about getting back together or something (he had to buy the pimp rims fo his new murzaydeez yo), we don't yet know what his financial profile was. I use the MB EPC to determine my part numbers and then order conveniently online using the Northlake website, which provides instant confirmation of pricing. Re: [MBZ] Thug driving Benz with pimp rims gets ventilated at FLAPS
They justify it by assuming every perp is packing heat, since the NRA has browbeaten our pusillanimous legislators into abandoning any notion of sensible gun control.. A homeowner in Fairfax, VA was gunned down in broad daylight buy a cop while standing in his front door during a confrontation with cops. He was unarmed, but the cops knew that his house was packed with all sorts of weaponry and could even see the guns through the door. The cop that shot the guy claims he saw him reach for his belt area... Interesting case.
