Interesting manual, by Peter Russek Publications, Ltd., aimed toward
larger Mercedes vehicles and their power plants, one of which is the

That one isn't available for public bidding, you need to be registered as a
licensed business or a foreign customer who's going to ship it out of the USA.

You can go through the sign-up process for free, then when you're logged in you
can add cars to your watchlist. When in your watchlist or on the search screen,
you can check "no license required" in the top section of the filter options on
the left, and watch 90% of the cars disappear.

If you try to bid on that car while logged in as an unlicensed bidder, it'll
take you to a 'find a broker' menu. You should be able to find a company that
will set you up to bid under their license and process the title paperwork for
$200-300. Watch out for some of the brokers who list their fee at $100-200,
then when you go to their web site and read the fine print there are other fees
not included in the $100 markup.

Get this one. Looks like the same thing but costs less. The gages
will cost more. Make sure you have about 3" behind the faceplate
for the connections and all.

2017-10-09 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
I don’t know about the actual gauge setup, but it looks like it would fit or be
darned close to it.

Once the cell phone controller is out it’s pretty much just a big rectangular
hole. There are sides and a bottom, but nothing in the opening itself.

Pop your radio out. Reach into the opening and below the radio and you’ll feel
a big plastic tab. Push down on this and the whole assembly comes out the
front.

Fred,

Thank you for the compliment, I am quite happy about finding a home for
every nut, screw, and bolt. Too many other times that has not been the
case...

Inifiniti did a pretty good job of making all this pretty simple to put
back together. I've got to do a 124 dash next in order to replace a
leaking evap and replace all the dash pods while I'm there. At this point
I think Infiniti's choice to use motors for all the HVAC doors rather than
vacuum pods was the better choice.

Today I got all the dash and interior put back together. AC still needs to be
emptied of the N2 charge and then charged with R134. Filled the radiator with
plain water, connected the battery, and started her up! All systems go except
AC.

No extra fasteners left over!

Here’s a “pocket” OM616 manual PDF:

[MBZ] copart process?

2017-10-09 Thread Rich Thomas via Mercedes
I looked at the local LKQ inventory for a car that might have a front
fascia for this E300, nothing there.  So I looked at Copart and they
have 2 cars in Columbia, a coupla hours up the road.

Looks like a bunch of flood Benzes, and there is one that doesn't look
too bad for a donor.

https://www.copart.com/saleListResult/56?location=SC%20-%20Columbia=%2Flocations%2Fcolumbia-sc-56=1=%7B%22query%22:%5B%22*%22%5D,%22filter%22:%7B%22MISC%22:%5B%22auction_host_id:56%22%5D,%22MAKE%22:%5B%22lot_make_desc:%5C%22MERCEDES-BENZ%5C%22%22%5D%7D,%22sort%22:%5B%22auction_date_type%20desc%22,%22auction_date_utc%20asc%22%5D,%22searchName%22:%22%22,%22watchListOnly%22:false,%22freeFormSearch%22:false%7D

This is a E320 flood car https://www.copart.com/lot/41438967/Photos

Remind me again of how this place works.  I am going to register.  So
you can bid, I see that process but to know what you actually have to
pay you have to be logged in, which I am not yet as I need to scan my
license and send it in.

Details please.  I'm thinking if I could buy one of these cars for
cheepcheep, esp a flood car, I could get this thing fixed up to keep or
flip or unload on Kleb and charge him a lot more.

Just passing a semi is what you want to do. You do NOT want to drive

Re: [MBZ] Wonder if red seat covers are still available?

2017-10-09 Thread Jim Cathey via Mercedes
My dad just put in a set of leathers he got through Eckler's into his
560SL. (The car he bought from me, which I had bought from a friend who
was moving and didn't have time to get a good price on it. He sold it to
me at a middle price rather than essentially give it away.) Anyway, _I_
ended up having to install them, it took most of a week's free time. Big
PITA, but I knew it would be as I'd done it before. The new leather wasn't
quite as good a fit as the old, and was definitely thinner than the
original, and not as tough. Good enough, though, but tricky to install
without tearing it. (Which I did. Twice. Fortunately it was in places
that didn't show. I cut generous pieces of the old seat material and glued
it behind the tears using 3M weatherstrip cement.)

Anyway, the result looks great.

2017-10-09 Thread Jim Cathey via Mercedes
My experience is that you can't pay _anybody_ to care as much as you do,
hence the DIY at my house.

Current _is_ amps! Heat derives from current through resistance. It's a
mathematical product, so as either goes up so does the heat. (Amps times
amps times resistance, actually.) Solder is used to _seal_ and secure a
low-resistance mechanical connection between the copper wires, very little
current is actually preferentially going through the more resistive lead as
compared to the copper, unless the mechanical joint is poor. In no way
should any properly soldered joint get hot enough on its own to melt the
solder. If it did, it'd be melting the insulation in the area too, maybe
even starting a fire.

I have a Milwaukee Electric heat gun. The real deal, metal nose on it,
etc., not a slightly dangerous hair drier. Two heat settings: hot, and
catch-on-filre hot. The lab techs where I used to work would light their
cigarettes in the lab with tools like these. (This was a while ago.)

I have a HF heat gun that has served me well for a number of years. I think I
paid $8.00 with a coupon. It got dropped a while back, breaking the back corner
on the top which exposes some of the innards, but it still works just fine.

Also, as an aside, if the manual transmissions are suddenly selling to
people who want to convert their automatics, I'd say you don't even have to
keep the car stock. You say it is too nice to part out, well, maybe convert
it to automatic, make sure it has a good serviceable engine, and then sell
it *and* the manual parts and come out well ahead. That's all probably
easier said than done, though, even for someone who works on old Mercedes
all the time.

Hell, get it running really well and put it up on BaT-crap insane and get
(blast now I can't remember who sold their car on there recently sorry) but
get the guy that paid several thou for a 123 down to buy her. Be great fun
for the entire family, or something.

Very easy in your case, I'd imagine, given the cars you have lying around.

Rust is very, very hard to deal with, as I'm sure you know. Mechanicals are
easy by comparison. They are designed to be replaced as regular maintenance
after all.

Just my 2 cents, but I'd say buy it.

But I need a heat gun to:
1. Expand dented body steel while reshaping.
2. Soften paint in severe creases so it doesn't crack like the paint on my
Cruze's right fender while I'm straightening it.
3. Warm up plastic bumpers while straightening out dents. (this is where the
bazillion temperature settings beats one or two heat settings)

That's not propane torch work.
Besides, the idea of soldering pipes with a heat gun has some appeal to me, and
that Furno 750 comes with a pipe heating attachment.

Oh, that PDR tool kit I bought from a California eBay seller at 11pm?
I just got an email from UPS telling me to expect a 16lb delivery from Win.It

for eBay sellers. And the only thing I can remember buying recently is that
tool set.
