Re: [MBZ] 616 IP back bracket

Found an improvement on the old $5 thumb ratchet:
https://www.amazon.com/GearWrench-81027-Drive-Gimbal-Ratchet/dp/B00EYTBVWO

My main problem with the cheap thumb ratchets isn't that they don't swivel, but
that they're usually too stiff and don't ratchet. I'd hope a GearWrench product
would ratchet more easily.

Yotes yipping in the distance aren't scary when you're around the house, but
when the 11 o'clock news tells you it's going to frost and you're out in the
dark trying to cover the peppers and tomatoes and you hear something sizeable
moving nearby...(I hope it was a deer, I fear it was Wile E's cousin).

I used to carry a handgun while walking the Terrier Rat at night. Phoebe
Pointer is about as big as the monster yotes we sometimes see around here and
almost as fast, so I don't worry as much about her. I did freak out last week
when she ran behind the house at 30mph and started screaming, but that turned
out to just be a broken and bleeding foot. I still have no idea what she kicked
that would break her toe and draw blood, unless she hit the fencepost at the
edge of the property. It's amazing how fast a dog heals. Monday night she broke
her toe, the next Monday morning she started walking on four legs. Yesterday
she started running on all four. Now I have to stop her from trying to run full
speed.

Mitch.

Coyotes might need to become the "wolves" of the East Coast to survive.

Coyotes in the East are actually a mix of coyote, wolf and dog, which is
why they tend to be bigger than their counterparts in the West.

The carnivores has expanded their territory in the past 80 years, and their
wolflike traits are helping them thrive on the East Coast, according to
scientists.

But humans will have to coexist with these increasingly wolflike creatures,
researchers said.

"We now have a novel, large canid to take over that new role," said Robert
Crabtree, chief scientist of the Yellowstone Ecological Research Center.
"The right size is going to be selected for us by biological evolution
itself."

The coyotes might become more effective predators, which could be bad news
for deer. Ultimately, it could mean that the coyote becomes the top
predator on the East Coast (Patrick Whittle, Associated Press

Re: [MBZ] Windshield Polishing - Revisit

2017-11-18 Thread Floyd Thursby via Mercedes
I went to our Woodworker club meeting Th evening and there was a factory
rep guy there who sells industrial sanders and sandpaper. Nice
equipment, not wildly priced for the quality.  Anyway they also sell
sandpaper from some Swedish outfit, they have some that goes to (I think
I recall correctly) 25000 grit.  They get big rolls of it and fab it up
into different sizes, very high quality product.  He said he sells a lot
of that to a guy in FL who restores aircraft (military and civilian)
canopies and windshields who polishes them by hand with this stuff.
Made me think of this glass aspect.

The sanders were both random orbital and oscillating, nice stuff in
different sizes.

So I guess the take away is that if you have linear scratches in your

Do realize that if you have scratches due to windshield wiper wear or similar,
it does remove them. It just doesn’t do much of anything for the pitting.

I don’t regret doing mine, if anything, it got the fine scratches from the
wiper out and made the glass cleaner than it’s probably been since it was new.

[MBZ] Windshield Polishing - Revisit

2017-11-18 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
Just to follow up on this subject…

After being able to better observe the results of polishing the windshield in
both light and dark, I can say that my original impressions were wrong. That
is, polishing did take out a great deal of scratches from windshield wiper
wear. However, the pitting that existed from general wear and tear does not
seem to have been affected. At least not enough to say that it’s less or was
diminished by the polishing.

So I guess the take away is that if you have linear scratches in your
windshield or windows, polishing can and will take them out. It does not
appear to have a noticeable affect on pitting.
