Re: [MBZ] 240D Starter

2017-12-17 Thread archer75--- via Mercedes
There are components that are more expensive than batteries which could send a
Prius to the junkyard. The batteries are rebuildable since they are composed of
many separate cells that can be replaced for roughly $45 each and then
carefully balanced. The usual life expectancy of the cars is probably 250,000
up, but I'm just guessing. One of the best information sources is
Priuschat.com, and there are also useful sites in Canada and other foreign
countries.
I don't remember what kind of batteries the version ones had, but the version
two's like mine had nicads, the same type rechargeable batteries that you can
buy at the drugstore. Some or all later versions have NiMH I think.
These are finicky little cars with a lot of gotchas. Put the wrong fluid in
something under the hood and you've just made a several thousand dollar mistake.

Re: [MBZ] 103 v 104

2017-12-17 Thread Curley McLain via Mercedes
I've heard that the M104 is based on the M103 block. I have no first
hand experience. If that IS the case, it is possible the M103 head
gasket might work with a M104 head. Hawever the smaller parts int eh
103 set likely won't fit the dual cam M104 head/exhaust/intake etc.

Best bet is to sell the M103 kit and use the proceeds toward a M104 kit.

Similarly, I think a OM616 head could be used on an OM621 or OM615, but
I have NO proof.

Checking PnP yards and the Priii are showing up in numbers. Mostly the
original series. I am trying to figure out if the battery packs could be used
to make an electric SLC.

Meaning, no emergency visits to the hospital, no caring for sick kids, no

no undertaker visits, no chaos, no drama...

Re: [MBZ] Scraping...

2017-12-17 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
That’s pretty cool. So the metal is solid enough that it’s still functional?
Like no pitting or anything?

I took my oldest son (“dead eye”) out to the range today. His third time out
and he was making 4” groupings on a target 20 yards out with my 1911.

Amazing.

Even the RSO, a retired Special Forces guy who taught pistol and rifle in the
military, was amazed at his skill.

That and I’ve never driven a W110 diesel, much less a stick. I might do it just
for the experience.

Hmm.

Since you are bored, buy that clapped out ML and refurb it back to
Martha standards! That will keep you scrounging for interior parts for
a while!!!

Or better yet, buy that 110.110 and bring it back to glory! It appears
to be a very good basis to start with.

Put a new O ring on the oil dipstick on the E320 wagon. Did the same
on the SL500, as it was leaking a little and not fitting tightly in
the tube. Had a 250,000 km high mileage badge from one of the previous
cars I owned. Put it on the wagon, since it’s got 173k. Gotta fill out
the form and have the dealer verify it for the wagon so I can get another.

"Boring is good".

Meaning, no emergency visits to the hospital, no caring for sick kids,
no fixing crashed cars, no arguing with SWMBO, no doctor visits, no

I guess you can still buy a Mercedes at the wholesale auction for $200.
That's where my 300SD with the missing window came from, but it was titled to
the individual who sold it to me on eBay, he said he'd been driving it for
about a month.
Obviously if it's still got a floor paper in it, the only thing the seller did
was buy it and stick it on CL.
