The most wonderful climate I found was the highlands of Guatemala. The coasts
were a humid torment unless you were on the water with the breeze. Up in the
valley it was mostly sitting at 18c with the really hot days getting to 22c.
Nights might drop to 14c. Winter in the uninsulated house, if a polar vortex
were active, might get it to 8c, and then there might be hypothermic tragedies.
Just snuggle under a wool blanket with a fire roaring in the hearth.

I loved living in Volcano.  That is at 4000' too, but about 19º North.
In a house with no insulation in the winter, I froze.  The house would
get colder than the night air.  Most nights, I turned the dryer on and
sat on it to keep warm.   But the spectacular views, the spectacular
blue sky, tree ferns and clean air made up for it.  Volcano is where I
could literally hear the grass grow.  Every morning when I went out into
the warm sun, I forgot about freezing the night before!

In Kampala, the most you need is a long sleeve shirt, or a suitcoat at
night.

Lotsa folks here have lived through lotsa stuff.   But thanks!

Oh!  You might try Steve Pelham at Pelham Bros.   tel: 5632428493  They

I can't remember the owner's name, but Star Motors is one of the better

2019-03-26 Thread Mitch Haley via Mercedes
It usually depends on the title type and state it's titled in.
For example, unless the seller prohibits it, unlicensed buyers can bid on clean
or rebuilt title cars in Michigan. But my Hertz car with a clean MI title was
for licensed bidders only so I had to buy through a dealer/broker. But the
dealer's $300 fee on that one was less than the difference in CoPart fees
between my buying a $5800 car and my dealer buying a $5800 car. The donation
cars near me are always wholesale only, maybe the charity isn't licensed to
sell used cars to the public. And any car with a MI salvage or flood title is
going to be closed to the public. Seems like Kaleb has bid in states where
unlicensed buyers can buy salvage.

[MBZ] Bosch Two Plunger Injection Pump System - M127

2019-03-26 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
I’m curious to learn more about the operation of the fuel injection system on
the M127 as it’s different from anything I’ve ever worked on, especially the
injectors. I’ve done some Googling without a lot of results.

Anyone know of a resource on these that I can wander through in my spare time?

Thanks!

It's the heat, the humidity, and the cold - all are to be avoided when
possible. Give me 75-85F at 50% or lower humidity ...

2019-03-26 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
Its funny the difference in attitude toward cotton you have to have for
winter, your reasoning is the same, cotton wicks away sweat and makes you
cooler.I think in the hunting group I go out with we're going to have have to
institute a "no cotton" rule. The young guys can't seem to get it through their
heads that they end up cold because they're wearing cotton...

retard evaporation of body fluids and keep you hydrated, ie, you "wear your
own shade" here.

Loose 100% cotton, no synthetics. cotton wicks away sweat and keeps you
cooler. Loose fits let your body shed heat better. light colors, likewise.

Re: [MBZ] W124 Body Trim Clips

2019-03-26 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
At some point its the heat.Back 10 or so years ago now I spent a weekend in
Burbank. There was a sidewalk art festival on so I took a stroll, had a beer
with lunch, it was nice. Got back to the hotel room and just felt bad, my
joints hurt, I had a headache. On a hunch I got a bottle of water and chugged
it, started to feel better almost immediately and started sweating noticeably.
"Ah ha! So this is what the early stages of dehydration feel like."I'd never
been anywhere that I could overheat and not have my shirt soaking wet.

60s at night right now, high 70s/low 80s in my neck of the woods. Wonderful
weather.

My youngest just got hired by the County as a park ranger. When they were
interviewing him they asked if working outside in the summer was an issue for
him. He pointed out that when he worked for the NPS in the Grand Canyon he
routinely worked 8-10 hour days hiking in the Canyon with ambients in excess of
100F.

That pretty much answered their question.

Indeed you should!

Being in the 50s will be worse than when I was back in Pasadena, CA,
after much time at NASA's Goldstone Tracking Station in the Mojave Desert
and froze because it was only 85.

We had it the other way when we wound up stuck in Oklahoma City last
June. We were not acclimated to the 90+ weather into which we were
suddenly thrown.

If you’re talking about the cladding on the bottom half of the doors, there are
two different clips used as I recall, and one oddball clip on the rear doors.

I would have to look in my notes but I probably have the list ‘o’ clips for it.

Actually the diesel is fun to drive, it has massive torks and really
scoots.  I regularly got the nannies upset, the AWD was nice.  But yeah
it is mostly a utilitarian vehicle, but does OK for what it is.  Kinda
tarted up for more than the occasional plant store run, but carries a
fair amount for a trip.  The one we got did not particularly thrill me
beyond the boy racer driving, but it was nice enough.

Oh I see 73k miles on that one pic.  That is not bad for an 8yo car, bit
less than 10k miles/yr.  MBeach has a lot of retirees there, I wonder if

No mileage listed but that seems a fairly reasonable price given my
experience buying a 2012 4yr ago.  Looks like these things depreciate
fast.  I'd still beat on them some though.   Run the VIN to see what the
build sheet says, get Kleb to run a carfax on it to see its history.

The diesel is LOTS of fun to drive!
