Floyd Thursby via Mercedes wrote on 11/13/19 11:23 AM:
OK so I was going to cancel my land line because all I get is spam
calls, and keep my internet. ATT tells me just internet would be more
than it costs as the portion of the bundle of voice+IP. BUT... they
have a special bundle (which is the exact same bundle) for 45% less
than I am paying now, and the total for Voice+IP will be less than I
am paying now for the internet portion of my service, and would be
less than internet service alone. Go figure. So I signed up for that.
And they have some new spam blocker you can activate so I did that.
It's worth a 15min call (even with all the impediments to getting a
real person) to save $45/month.

So then I decide that I don't have time to read the Wall Street
Journal much any more, so I was going to cancel that and maybe just
keep the digital subscription to read it on the app and online. But
they have a 6month bundle of print+digital, available to existing
subscribers, that is less than half what I am paying now for both, and
is less than just the digital subscription. Go figure. Sign me up!

So 30min on the phone saves me close to $70/month going forward.
Reasonable return on my time I guess.

It’s a device that acts as a TV tuner and DVR (with an external hard drive)
that for over the air broadcast TV.

I live less than 2 miles from the major antenna farm in the Tampa area, so I
can get nearly every terrestrial station that’s broadcast in the area, around
70 channels, although only about half of them are even remotely worht watching.

I bought a dual refurb for like $70, I think. Works great.

Diesels put out less co2 than gas motors. That is the only reason they are
still sold in europe, because they have co2 emissions standards to comply
with. The CEO of Daimler has said that CO2 emissions are the reason diesels
will continue to be offered in the lineup for some time. So I dont think it
is true that diesels are blamed for climate change. And Mercedes is not
stopping diesel production due to climate concerns. Quite the opposite.

It has been suggested that this is the wrong list for climate change
discussion, and I agree. Climate change has nothing to do with why I am on
the list and sorting through this non-topical content is a waste of my
time, whether I agree with what is being posted or not. If I want to debate
that stuff, I will subscribe to a climate change list.

I think Litens is OEM.

Why not go with MB for the pulley? That’s a part I would definitely not scrimp
on. I only use Continental for belts.

Guenther Schwab, an Austrian, aligned himself with a group that best matched
his conservationist beliefs in the 1920’s. Deep into blood and soil being
bonded and radical environmental thought. He wrote a book in 1958, "Dance with
the Devil”. It preached about rising CO2 and became the guide book for the
Climate Change socialists. An inconvenient truth is that a TN senator became
enthralled by his theories, the same as the guy who wrote a book about “His
Struggles”, 80 years before. There were many other fellow travelers over the
last century and more espousing radical ideals, Marx, Lenin, and bleating sheep
following along. Much like the coal rollers with holes in their hoods that

to watch now and even finds it easier to use than the cable box, which is icing
on the cake. As long as she can watch what I refer to as her “murder porn”
(like Discovery Investigation stuff) all is good.

No cloud storage for me, thank you, I want to control and own my data. I use my
own router with my own custom firewall rules and proxy to keep things out and
in based on my rules. I have a FreeNAS server that has over 10TB of RAID based
storage, so we’re good there.

I put in a ubiquiti network at home with a cloud key, security gateway, a
poe switch for the cameras (DVR is in the cloud key), a couple of wifi
access points. Seems to work great. Best part is the app where I can block
and unblock every client on the network individually. I pi-holed all the ad

I block, the more books get read by everyone, and the happier we all are. I
have been putting off getting a short throw DLP and may just put it off

I think Litens is OEM.

Why not go with MB for the pulley? That’s a part I would definitely not scrimp

[MBZ] belt pulleys for E320?

2019-11-13 Thread Floyd Thursby via Mercedes
So I'm looking to get new idler and tensioner pulleys for the $600E320
as something in there is making noise and I am going on a Thanksgiving
trip in the car.

I look here and they have a kit, but the pulleys look like some
cheepcheepchit,
https://www.eeuroparts.com/Cars/Mercedes-Benz/74072012/1999-E320-3-2L-6-Cyl-18-Valve/1004/Belts-Pulleys-Tensioners/

$5 for a pulley
https://www.eeuroparts.com/Parts/52770/Serpentine-Belt-Idler-Pulley-55700/
but the MB is $41.

A Febi Serpentine Belt Tensioner Pulley is $11 but backordered so that
is no good.

Amazon has these which seem like better brands but still cheaper than MB

ACDelco
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000C9PE9G/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER=1

Dayco
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000CG91J8/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER=1

Advance Auto have

Febi
https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/febi-febi-accessory-belt-idler-pulley-g6020397097feb/10790747-P

Litens
https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/litens-idler-tensioner-pulley-original-equipment-quality-900149a/10457821-P

for basically the same price and shipping time.

So Febi/Litens or ACDelco/Dayco???

Re: [MBZ] OT phone/internet and WSJ bills

2019-11-13 Thread Dan--- via Mercedes
Cut the cord on cable last month. Went from $220/month for phone/cable/Internet
(undiscounted costs as we just went out of contract) down to a little over
$100/month for nearly the same content, and no more land line.

$60/month Internet (100/100)
$50/month YouTube TV
$5/month Tablo DVR

This gives us a boatload of content through YouTube TV, over the air broadcasts
with DVR functionality with the Tablo (also a feature of YTTV), and through
various free applications like Pluto TV (400+ free channels).

There’s minimal competition in this market, so if you want to pull the plug on
your provider they just shrug their shoulders and tell you “Bye!” No effort for
retention.

Along with using Spectrum (Charter) for cable, we also moved from Verizon
($200/month for 4 lines) to Spectrum ($56/month for 4 lines) for our cellular
service. Spectrum piggybacks on Verizon, so coverage is the same.

[MBZ] OT phone/internet and WSJ bills

2019-11-13 Thread Floyd Thursby via Mercedes
OK so I was going to cancel my land line because all I get is spam
calls, and keep my internet. ATT tells me just internet would be more
than it costs as the portion of the bundle of voice+IP. BUT... they have
a special bundle (which is the exact same bundle) for 45% less than I am
paying now, and the total for Voice+IP will be less than I am paying now
for the internet portion of my service, and would be less than internet
service alone. Go figure. So I signed up for that. And they have some
new spam blocker you can activate so I did that. It's worth a 15min call
(even with all the impediments to getting a real person) to save $45/month.

So then I decide that I don't have time to read the Wall Street Journal
much any more, so I was going to cancel that and maybe just keep the
digital subscription to read it on the app and online. But they have a
6month bundle of print+digital, available to existing subscribers, that
is less than half what I am paying now for both, and is less than just
the digital subscription. Go figure. Sign me up!

So 30min on the phone saves me close to $70/month going forward.
Reasonable return on my time I guess.

2019-11-13 Thread Dimitri Seretakis via Mercedes
Discussions on climate change are indirectly automotive in nature as cars are
blamed for it. The question I keep asking those who preach that climate change
is man-made is why are the polar ice caps on Mars melting? I never get an
answer. As far as I’m concerned, melting Martian polar ice caps is all the
evidence I need to believe that man-made climate change is a complete and utter
sham.

Re: [MBZ] '65 Rambler American 440 3 speed convertible

2019-11-13 Thread Allan Streib via Mercedes
First car I remember my parents owning was a 4-door Rambler American
sedan. I think they bought it the year I was born, and kept it until I
was in middle school. They sold it to a neighbor who had a pizza
restaurant, and he used it as a delivery car. I think it lasted about a
month or two after that.

Subject: [MBZ] OT - Car Hauler?

SWMBA purchased a car out of Southeast MO. The transport broker(?) who was
supposed to get the thing hauled to SEA for placement onto a boat has dropped
the ball. The car was expected to be on the ship last week. Now it looks like
it might not be up here for driving until 2020 if she keeps using this guy.

Anybody have a reliable transporter to recommend?

I am aware that there is a mighty weather system brewing mostly impacting MO
and TN this week and maybe next. SWMBA is beginning to think I should be sent
to pick up and drive the thing here (ANC).
