Mine have always been intermittent failures, which is why I suspect they didn’t
throw codes. When I looked at the errors in SDS later on I could see the
failures, but I assume they have to be permanent faults to trigger the CEL.

True, but it’s 3M and the quality isn’t questionable. Not to mention your local

This is my go-to kit for W210 headlight refreshing and they work great. Did the
ML headlights with one of these, too, and they look almost new.

Teddy was a great sailor... he was never becalmed... if the wind died off,
all he had to do was talk and there was enough hot air to fill the sails...

Teddy almost drowned while touring a distillery. He fell into a 5,000
gallon vat of whiskey... he would have drowned but he kept getting out to
go pee.

2020-01-22 Thread Meade Dillon via Mercedes
We voters really are too damn lazy to really hold the political class
accountable, and so the only question becomes "What price a Senator?".

More and more of the stupid largess and outright wealth transfer needs to
be targeted and stopped. Meanwhile we get "Impeachment" circus and never
ending campaign seasons to keep the masses distracted from the robbery.

2020-01-22 Thread Curley McLain via Mercedes

Well said!   In many cases, same for solar.

I was shocked that Vestas admitted the total life output for a windmill
was only 30 times the input energy.   That is abysmal.

And NOBODY has addressed the long term impact on the land where they are
planted.   At least with solar the impact on the land is minimal.

There is no way on earth anyone will go back and dig out the millions or
billions of cubic yards of concrete in 20-30 years when the windmills
are shut down.   It is simply feel good politics.

If you don't believe me, fly to Hawaii, drive down the road to South
Point, and tell me what you see.   by now, Helco has probably shut down
the "new" windfarm, so those will be rusting away too.

All "Drink the Alternate Energy Koolaid" aside, I have yet to see any
financial report that presents a viable Return on Investment where
costs of

build/install/land cost for a "wind farm" has returned a profit in actual
energy produced and sold.

Bottom line remains. If Government money were not thrown at projects for
wind farms, they would fold instantly for lack of profit...

Boy I'd like to see seagulls get decimated...
Last fall I was wondering if I could get away with calling them "snow geese"
and blasting a couple however its illegal to "knowingly kill" waterfowl without
intent to eat them.
Back when I first got out of high school I worked on a landfill closure
project. Sea gulls were the only birds that would let themselves freeze to the
ground. They'd sleep in a puddle which would skim over with ice and they'd wake
up trapped...

Yep that’s where you hook the blink tool up to various ports. Some of them have
a button in the port with a light so you don’t need the tool. If you have the
SDS system you can use that also if you have the banana clip harness with your
mux

[MBZ] OT: VW common rail TDI cold start

2020-01-22 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
I wish I'd made a video. Headed to the gym this morning, the thermometer in the
car (2015 VW Jetta TDI) reads 3F. I figure I'll glow once and see what it does.
What it does is start perfectly. No drama at all it just starts the same as it
did at 50F a couple weeks ago.
I'm amazed by this car.

I see a lot of wishful thinking in this response. "Will be negligible" really
means "We're going to find out".
There are birds that migrate offshore, oil rigs get hummingbirds...

Effects on birds of offshore wind turbines - which has the greatest growth
potential - will be negligible.

You all seem to be missing the big picture.  Renewables growth means less
need for burning fossil fuels.  This will reduce emissions, though not 100
percent all at once.

And I would add that everyone, for the most part, has played nicely with this
topic. Hence the lack of a need for me in inject List Mom “reigning in”

It’s nice when we can discuss contentious topics and things don’t devolve into
a battle of sorts. That’s the way it should be. Most of you should be commended

[MBZ] $500 Wagon Update, CE light is on now

2020-01-22 Thread Meade Dillon via Mercedes
This week I'm driving the "new" 1994 E320 TE. Yesterday the commute was
uneventful. The front struts are totally flabby, so the car floats like a
70's 'Mericun boat. I may need Dramamine. Heat and AC both work, this
week I need the heat.

The coolant temp gauge has issues, starts out dead with the needle stuck at
cold, then it will jump to pegged, and then if I pound my fist on the dash,
it will drop and read normal after about ten minutes of driving.

Today a new problem presented, Check Engine light came on with the first
start this a.m. I've noted that fuel consumption appears to be very high,
only about 70 miles on the first full tank of fuel, and the needle says
about 3/8 of the tank is gone. Occasionally when warm, she is also hard to
start, requiring several rounds of cranking before the engine will catch
and run. Runs very smooth with plenty of power once started.

Maybe the check engine light is telling me that the O2 sensors are dead?

Occasional "no start" maybe a bad crank position sensor?
