Stay away from nursing homes..  SanFransicko was a place to be very very
cautious in, even decades ago.   In 1988 it was like a prison.   Ugly,
dirty, filled with criminals,   They'd let you in, but you had to buy
your way out.  its only gotten worse.    It is worse than the armpit of
the country.   It is the unwiped anus of the country.   literally and
figuratively.

You could do like the chinese are doing.   Cut the bottom of a clear
plastic 5 gallon waterjug and wear it over your head to keep the virus out.

Gotta admit it is innovative when nothing else is available.   But I
wonder about its effectiveness, other than as a placebo.

I would not be surprised if the virus is in the GWN. Air travel is the most
extensive manner of travel, so there could be transmission that way. My
thoughts would be there are not enough old farts around for it to be lethal
just yet. The aged head south for the winter, returning once the cold abates.
Add the old farts on cruise ships, and you get a better opportunity for illness
of that sort to arise.

I take continued learning courses in rooms crammed with older folks. Last week
was getting pretty heavy coughing going on. Could be the flu, or these folks
are more active in public and exposing themselves to opportunity for contagion.
They are fairly robust, prone to regular outdoor activity, which would keep
them out of the target population of infirmity

Youngest son’s 2002 W210 sedan was up for an oil change. He asked me
what oil to buy and I told him to go to Wally World and buy a couple 5
quart jugs, as they would be around $25/each.

He came home with a 12 quart box that was cheaper than the two 5 quart
jugs. It was around $54.00 and was a box with a liner and spigot like
a wine box, not 12 separate quart bottles. It doesn’t show up on their
web site. I’ve never seen anything like it.

[MBZ] OT: Prominent coal state loosens reins on solar [emphasis added]

2020-03-04 Thread Andrew Strasfogel via Mercedes
WEST VIRGINIAState House passes bill making it easier to use solar
energyPublished:
Wednesday, March 4, 2020

It could soon be easier for power companies to use solar energy under a
bill passed yesterday in the West Virginia House of Delegates.

Lawmakers voted 75-23 to approve the measure after an hour of debate that
revolved around whether it's better to focus on coal or renewable energy
sources.

The state Commerce Department pushed for the bill, *saying big companies
want to know that they can use renewable energy sources before relocating
to a state.* The proposal

would create a regulatory program for utilities to use a small amount of
renewables.

The measure makes several nods to the coal business and said that nothing
in the bill can "displace any current levels of coal-fired generation
capacity."

The bill now moves to the Senate for the chamber to approve some minor
House amendments. Senators unanimously approved the measure last month. *—

Florida’s seniors most at risk if coronavirus spreads
“Florida is the grayest state in the nation.” Now the AARP wants state
officials to address the risks faced by Florida’s most vulnerable to
coronavirus: The elderly.

Coronavirus cases have been confirmed in the Tampa Bay area.
• • •
As the reach of coronavirus grows in the U.S., seniors are particularly at risk.

No state has a higher share of residents who are in their 70s, 80s or older
than Florida.

Though it is difficult to estimate the virus’ exact fatality rate, early data
indicates older people who catch it are at a higher risk of dying. In a study
of more than 44,000 confirmed cases in mainland China, the overall fatality
rate was 2.3 percent. But in patients 80 years and older, the death rate was
more than six times as high. (About 14 percent)

For patients in their 70s, the rate was 8 percent, four times as high as the
overall rate. Another study this week estimated a lower overall death rate but
still found fatality rates were higher for older patients.

expected

In Florida, where officials had announced three cases of the virus as of
Tuesday — a woman in her 20s and a traveling companion who have been
quarantined in Hillsborough County, and a Manatee County man in his 60s — AARP
Florida called for protecting the the state’s elderly residents.

“Florida is the grayest state in the nation, tied with Maine," said AARP
Florida spokesman David Bruns. "If there’s any place for public agencies and
industry to be watching very carefully, this is the place.”

Elderly patients are more likely to suffer the most severe coronavirus
symptoms, including death, said Jay Wolfson, a professor of public health,
medicine and pharmacy at the University of South Florida. But there are also
particular challenges in providing care for them.

“Placing persons in isolation requires systems of care available to support at
least 14 days of quarantine. And the higher rate of severe impact among the
elderly would also mean that our hospitals would be faced with an increased
census of very sick, highly contagious people.”

Wolfson warned of a combination of health risks in Florida.

“We are in the midst of a flu season, a high pollen season that is causing
allergic reactions, the winter influx of people from all over the U.S. and the
world, and the invasion by a new virus about which we are learning as we go,
but for which we do not yet have a vaccine.”

Bruns, the AARP spokesman, said elder care facilities are of particular concern
because they cluster older patients together in a communal setting, overseen by
staff who are constantly moving from patient to patient.

In Kirkland, Wa., an outbreak of the virus has killed four people at a nursing
home, among the first coronavirus-related deaths counted in the U.S. Four other
residents and a health care worker also have contracted the virus.

In Florida, there are more than 3,000 assisted-living facilities, including
about 700 nursing care centers. Though none have counted a case of coronavirus,
“those all should be areas that are receiving extra attention," Bruns said.

In 2017, the state learned what happens when those facilities are unprepared
for an emergency: A dozen residents of the Rehabilitation Center at Hollywood
Hills died of heat-related illnesses after Hurricane Irma knocked out the air
conditioning.

Another concern is senior centers, where the elderly gather for meals and other
social activities, then return home. More than two dozen executives from
Miami-Dade senior centers, nursing homes and other providers held a two-hour
meeting Monday with Mayor Carlos Gimenez to address coronavirus, reported the
Miami Herald.
Sign up for our Daystarter newsletter
Today's top headlines and information delivered to your inbox every morning.

The mayor said senior centers worry him more than nursing homes because they
don’t have medical personnel and seniors rely on them for food and other needs.
Who will feed them if they have to stay home? “If it gets to be that extreme,
how do we provide services to those folks at their domiciles?” the mayor told
the Miami Herald.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has a pandemic planning
checklist for long-term care and residential health facilities. It recommends
designating staff members and teams to coordinate decisions, advises on
strategies for isolating residents with symptoms and suggests ways to address
potential staff absences.

The Florida Healthcare Association, which represents 550 nursing care
facilities, is also trying to ensure prevention is top-of-mind. The association
was to hold a joint phone call on Tuesday with the Florida Surgeon

2020-03-04 Thread Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes
Looks like China is shut(ting) down. That can’t be good for their aspirations
(whether viral or economic or military or trade). The outcome will be
interesting to watch. I am reminded of the commie bureaucratic reaction to the
Chernobyl reactor situation but this is on a much larger scale.

From the NYT morning news brief:
China’s economic shutdown

Alexandra Stevenson, a business correspondent for The Times in Hong Kong, has
been exploring the global effects of the coronavirus outbreak. She spoke with
Mike Ives, of the Briefings team, about her latest report, on how the shutdown
in China is hurting business around the globe.
What was the most striking thing you learned while reporting this story?
How China plays such a big role in the lives of individuals around the world.
We read a lot from corporations about how their bottom lines are being hit. We
also have heard a lot from policymakers who are worried. But China is the
economic center of gravity for so many smaller players, too.
One economist put it this way: We’ve never been here before. Not even in
wartime has an economy ground to a halt the way China’s did. And the world has
never been as integrated as it is today.

Battogtokh Uurtsaikh drives truckloads of coal to the Mongolia-China border. In
January, Mongolia closed the border. Gilles Sabrié for The New York Times
You interviewed a truck driver from Mongolia who may need a new job because the
border with China has closed. How did you find him?
The truck driver, Battogtokh Uurtsaikh, is someone I met in the Gobi Desert in
October. I was reporting a story about how China’s demand for coal plays such a
big role in the lives of Mongolians.
I met Mr. Battogtokh on this highway between Mongolia’s biggest coal deposit
and a dusty border town with China. He was with four other young truck drivers
who were working together to fix a flat tire and a broken hub on one of their
trucks. They grew up together and now travel in a pack, each in his own truck
with a walkie-talkie to communicate.
Was he surprised to hear from you?
Not really. But his circumstances have changed a lot since we found him. At the
time, he was hopeful that this gig would be a quick way to make good money and
pay off his loans. But he hasn’t driven his truck for more than a month. Some
of his friends, desperate for work, are still trucking coal to the border, but
they can’t find any Chinese traders to buy the coal.
A correction: Tuesday’s briefing, relying on remarks by Dr. Stephen Hahn, the
commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration, referred imprecisely to the
availability of coronavirus testing in the U.S. Dr. Hahn intended to say that
the administration could have the capacity for approximately one million tests
by the end of the week, not that one million tests could be administered by the
end of the week.
That’s it for this briefing. See you next time.

The association
was to hold a joint phone call on Tuesday with the Florida Surgeon General and
the secretary for the Florida Agency for Healthcare Administration to advise
nursing care facilities on best practices in case of a pandemic.

The association has recommended hygiene

People are dropping like flies in Seattle.

Postal worker in a sorting facility came up ill. Customs clearing
house had to shut down due to ill workers. Firefighters who responded
to the care facility are out of service now. Seems the virus was
getting spread covertly in the Soviet Socialist Republic of Seattle
over the past two months. I got out just in time… maybe.

Flight back to ANC from FAI did not have the hacking passengers that
the early morning flight to FAI did. Lady in the seat next to me did a
full decontamination wipe down of her seat area with some medicated
cloth. No virus up north yet, but I am pretty sure there will be some
idiot out of SEA comes up here to spread it around.

If it is non fused then the starter or the alternator. Possibly ignition

seem to be the only country that has done mass surveillance and contained

This virus would be a lousy bioweapon.

2020-03-04 Thread Curley McLain via Mercedes

All correct.    How do you protect against an unknown?

there are not  many choices, but they pretty much boil down to:
1.  Ignore it,  (wait until its characteristics are determined, then react)
2.  act proactively.   This almost always leads to being accused of
overreacting..whether it was or not.

Some of the things that happened:
1. chicomms tried to suppress it until they no longer could keep it
hidden/secret

2.  USA offered to send in experts/help
3.  chicomms refused help
4.  USA put up travel restrictions
5.  USA attempted to evacuate citizens from the area (gummit employees
first.)
6,  All known possible carriers were quarantined; later all known
carriers were quarantined.
and so forth.   Each early step taken by the USA seems reasonable.
Chicoms did what coms do.  First hide, then Lie.

To be fair, CDC and other gummit agencies identified the composition as
being part sars and part aids very quickly.  They knew it originated at
the only level 4 lab in all of china, which the WHO used our tax dollars
to help the chicomms set up a bio weapons lab.   They also determined
pretty quickly that it had a long shelf life outside a host, on
inanimate objects.

THe (J) party (and their propaganda masters) wasted no time in using the
disease as a political weapon.
Media whips the sheeple into even more of a frenzy than they were with
TDS prior to the disease.

Sheeple raid stores for masks and TP.

I have a hypothesis on this virus. I suspect that the reason the CCP
did the quarantines and lock downs was that

1. It was a man-made or modified virus
2. They had absolutely no clue how contagious or lethal it was going
to be.

In hindsight, I suspect that they have caused an unnecessary panic
because of incompetence, ignorance, and fear.

In my opinion, it would appear the best defense against this, or any
other pathogen, is good hygiene practice. Proper hand washing, don't
rub your eyes with unclean hands, don't pick your nose, proper
bathroom hygiene, etc.

Thoughts?
