took me and my shorthaired pointer in the cab, no masks.


Around here, we had a big upswing in boating and SxS ORVs, and I believe 
off road motorcycles. Dealership floors were devoid of boats nationwide. 
So I've been expecting a huge season for snowmobiling, but I don't know 
if that translates to a huge season for snowmobiler travel to Da UP.___

 My cousin owns the general store in Stockholm, Maine (population 800 
something) and says a lot of the older folks are nervous to go to Florida for 
the winter. Arostook county has very few COVID cases, but a lot of the 
snowbirds spend the summer in cottages that would never make it through a 
northern Maine winter.He says some of the folks that have real houses have laid 
in firewood and are going to try it. He hopes that having those folks will 
offset the loss of revenue from fewer (if any) snowmobilers.

While the W210s are probably the most bulletproof modern Benz, there’s nothing 
like a long wheelbase W126 to cruise in. Wonderful cars, definitely my most 
favorite Mercedes of them all.

[MBZ] Self-gratification

[Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes]

I gratified myself today by first driving a 43yo Benz 280E to the C which was 
a nice experience. I had not driven a 123 in awhile and this one actually 
drives pretty well. It was fun, 123s are cool cars. It’s a gasser so that is a 
new experience. 

Then this afternoon I cleaned up the 36yo 300SD and took it for a spin around 
the neighborhood then to the grocery store. The parking lot was full of Yankees 
driving like fools in their big new SUVs and trying to park them.  A stinky 
diesel fit in nicely. 

The 126 just feels like a big comfortable solid cruiser whereas the 123 feels 
more nimble for fun driving. Different tools for different jobs I guess.

- Desirability / Eventual resale value of the model.

I have a poor sense of the latter as I have not spent time studying
which MBs are rare/collectible. There's also a big element of individual
taste and preferences there.

Sure if you just want a beater/driver for transportation it's crazy
money.

If for some reason you specifically want a nice W123 300CD (assuming
this is one) then maybe it's worth it. Almost always cheaper to buy the
nicest example you can find than to rehab it yourself.

I attached a plate on this thing from the 99 E320 and took it down the road a 
half mile to the little shopping center. Scofflaw!

The girl who had it for 3 days before I bought it from her cheepcheep drove it 
without the main belt and overheated it, either blew the head gasket or warped 
the head, it is spewing a bit of coolant but it runs pretty well. ( and it 
idles really fast, I need some more vacuum fittings that seem to be NLA for 
some unknown reason to get all the various hoses attached then learn how to get 
it tuned up right). I haven’t got plates for it yet until I deal with that. 
It’s a 20footer but looks really nice, Interior very nice, has a lot of new 
parts on it but the floor pan is completely rusted out. Most everything works 
except the AC (newish Sanden 134 compressor) probably needs a charge. Another 
thing to deal with at some point. 

This guy I had talked to before had a 97 SL600 there.  And some dude with an 05 
SL55 Designo mocha black with beige seat bits he was trying to sell. Some other 
guys I know had cars there.
