I have Ryobi and Makita cordless drills. The Makita loses its charge
sitting; the Ryobi works a couple MONTHS on a charge and cost me 1/3 that
of the Makita.

Pick a brand and stick with it, otherwise they eat you alive on batteries and
chargers.
I'm enjoying my Makita set. I've got a drill, 1/4" impact and a sawzall. I find
myself using the 1/4" impact way more than I thought I would, it's super handy
for trim and other small fasteners on cars.

The thing intrigued me, it’s sorta my style.

Popped over to my local this eve to listen to some tunes and have a nosh and a
brew or two. The former proprietor, an Irish guy sold out and is moving to
Montana. He had a short school bus parked out back. He and his GF each have one
they are outfitting as campers. It was unclear why they have 2 but whatever. I
kinda like the idea but it got me thinking about doing it on a bigger scale
with this thing. Probably not as easy to park as a short bus though.

Mercedes makes the chassis, suspension, rear end, and body along with all
the wiring and controls. To import the bus into the USA, it has to have a
certain portion of the components that are "Made in America", so using a
USA made Detroit Diesel engine, and a USA made Allison transmission meets
the qualifications with final assembly done here in the USA. Mercedes gets
to have a piece of USA bus market share, Detroit and Allison gets to sell
engines and transmissions [no mention is made that the bulk of Detroit
engines are now cast and forged in China, and Allison sub components are
"made elsewhere" also... Final assembly is done on USA soil.. thus,
regulations are met.

Mechanics are well advised to stock both Metric and SAE wrenches and

OK - I looked into the different films, none of them get good reviews for

I would probably recommend the Milwaukee stuff then. I have older DeWalt stuff
at home, but if I had it to do over right now I'd buy Milwaukee. Their cordless
impacts are close to the best out there. You may be able to find a kit with a
sawzall, impact and a couple batteries. Once you've had a cordless impact
you'll wonder why you didn't buy one years ago.
This kit has an impact driver. You can use a 3/8 or 1/2 adapter to use it as an
impact wrench.

Re: [MBZ] 2003 Mercedes-Benz sentra,$10,000

2021-05-08 Thread G Mann via Mercedes
Setra, not Sentra The Setra bus company and Mercedes are joined at the
hip. Drive engine is a 60 series Detroit [very solid engine with millions
of miles of successful history in Semi Tractors and Buses] Allison
transmission B500R is the same transmission that is used in heavy haul
trash trucks and other workhorse applications where they are abused every
hour, of every day, and keep giving back. The "R" at the end of the B500R
means the transmission is equipped with a "Retarder" feature, which saves
brakes by using the transmission hydraulic pressures to slow down. That
feature is controlled by a small lever on the right side of the steering
wheel, you pull up progressively on the lever to activate more resistance
for slowing down... Much like downshifting a manual transmission to use
engine braking [which you do not have with the diesel engine.

Since I own one with the same configuration, I'm very familiar with it's
functions and features.. The only difference is mine is a Detroit V8 [8V92,
8 cyl, V configuration, 92 cubic inch displacement each cylinder], same
transmission, same body and wheel base. 52 passenger seats, TV's and a
bathroom for the Pax.

It's a rear engine diesel pusher configuration, so you can't "put in a rear
door" That area is full of engine and transmission.. [about 9,000 lbs
worth].

Upper deck is all passenger seating, the baggage bay doors on the lower
deck are "huge" ... This is the same chassis that is also configured as a
double decker bus all over Europe. [100 paying customers].
Jump on it... it will make one heck of a Class A motorhome.

Re: [MBZ] I don’t have the founds to put on the road 1974 Mercedes-Benz 450sl,$2,105

2021-05-08 Thread G Mann via Mercedes
What in the world happened to that hood? ... parked outside under a very
acid tree for years?.. Double ugly damage. The air cleaner took a large
corrosion hit also. Is the engine locked up?
It certainly needs far more than a "wash job" to make even a coffee and
cars driver out of it.

Then it does qualify as a "cheap Mercedes" ... with all the things
that cost you to make it right...
Legal Bill of Sale? With no title and the damage level clearly visible, 1/2
the ask price would be a gamble.
I would certainly want to do a pre buy inspection with the car up on a lift
so you could find just how many tin worms ate it's lunch..

[MBZ] I found a 140 diesel in the back 40

2021-05-08 Thread Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes
In the process of dragging cars out in prep for removing the cats. So far I
have ran into 2 126s buried in the back that the tractor won’t budge for some
reason. Going to have to work on those. In the end I’m probably going to line
them all up closer to the shop in a way I can move them around much easier in
the future. I will also probably separate out some and perhaps throw them on
Fakebook as parts cars. I have several 124s back there that had good running
103s in them and some with nice interiors. Not sure I will ever do anything
with them. Also have some 140s back there that are parts cars with good 5.0s.
Had one nice 93 500 that jumped timing but at this point it is a parts car.
Don’t think it’s worth saving. Also have that nice 95 but has a burned wiring
harness near the fuse box. It’s probably not worth saving either.

Anyway found a 140 diesel with a super nice interior with heated ortho seats. I
forgot about that one. I seem to recall the guy saying the engine was bad but
never dug into it. I should throw a battery in it and see what happens. If bad
I got several engines to choose from to drop in it. I dragged that one up
closer to the shop so I can get to it soon.

Last time it was down, it was down for 16 days due to a leak caused by a
contractor working on it.

If it’s for a few hours / days. Not a big deal.

If it’s for 5-7 days, Time to worry a bit, especially if you’re AO is
only supplied by the colonial.

Looking at you GA / SC / NC / TN / VA.

But I really don’t see it being a huge deal. Worse case 2-3 days and
they should be back up and running. If not faster.

Re: [MBZ] 116 300SD starter

2021-05-08 Thread Jim Cathey via Mercedes
The click _is_ the starter relay, on the starter. Either the starter is bad,
or the wiring to it is feeble. The latter can be diagnosed with a voltmeter.
(Feebleness can include the battery itself. The voltmeter is all you need,
but of course wielding it properly counts.) Especially do not forget to
check the grounds.

Because it's clicking, you know the key and neutral safety switches,
and the wiring to the starter relay, are all good.

You measure:

1) Voltage of battery, both off and with starter 'engaged'.
2) Voltage across starter, both off and with starter 'engaged'.
3) Voltage across each of the 3 (4?) big battery cables, with starter engaged.

Re: [MBZ] 116 300SD starter

2021-05-08 Thread Jaime Kopchinski via Mercedes
There is no starter relay. You either have connection issues with the
battery or ignition switch, or a bad starter. There is no easy place to
jump the starter terminal 50 like later cars, you need to go directly to
the starter
