My modern Bluetec glk250 has way more pick up than my w123 turbo diesel
station wagon. And the fuel economy is 10 miles a gal better in mixed
driving and 13 to 14 mpg higher on the interstate.

Also a good option. Like a cable but without pulling cable, usually. I
keep a pair on hand for temporary needs but my OOMA phone ran off a pair of
powerline adaptors for several years and the speed is near cat5. But the
powerline adaptors confused my Unifi setup.

I use a couple of powerline Ethernet adapters. This bridges a wire from our
main switch into the bedroom at the back end of the house. From there, a
second Airport Express has been ganged together with the primary one.

It's not as fast back there, but it's been fast enough for our needs. This
was cheap-cheap-cheap, as both the powerline Ethernet bricks and the Airport
Expresses were from the thrift stream.

Interior looks good, no visible rust, and mileage isn't excessive, so that's
three strong plusses in my book.

If it really just needs a relay that's an easy fix. Replace it and drive it
home.

Worst case it is a solid looking chassis with some mechanical issues to sort
out.

As it's a 22 year old non-runner try to beat the price down some. I'd take it
for $1k if I could get it.

Another difference is that a mesh router setup does not lose speed as
regular extenders do. Most extenders cut bandwidth in half.

Cost of repairs depends on whether done at an indy shop or dealership. I
replaced my 2014 GLK 250 Bluetec front strut mounts for $280 vs. a $650
dealer estimate. YMMV.

Newer diesels make a lot more power on less fuel than the older ones too. The
2.0l in my Jetta makes around 145hp and that's with the de-tune from VW.
Compare that to 120hp out of the 3.0l 617 turbo. It also starts well in deep
cold. I've started it at -5F and it fired right up, no complaints.

It'll also do 55mpg pretty handily, a 617 turbo dreams of 30mpg...

I really like the look and feel of a W123 but my Jetta is a lot easier to live
with.

The older diesels are so simple. They just need fuel and good compression and
they will run. They don't need a computer, or even a working battery/alternator.

The complexity of the new diesels is all about reducing the particulate
emissions, something that gas vehicles really don't have to worry about.

I probably would not buy a modern diesel car, as much as I like my OM617s.

I saw a 2012 E350 BlueTec, 103k miles, show up at a Subaru dealer here. Ran it
to ground and in the process talked to the shop that performed all its
services. The dude‘s shop makes its living servicing and repairing Mercedes’.
We talked diesels in general and he revealed to me his love of older MB
diesels. He told me the car in question is squared away. He told me everything
he has done to it, he even sent me its complete service history. Then in the

Re: [MBZ] WiFi extender

2022-02-21 Thread Jim Cathey via Mercedes
I use a couple of powerline Ethernet adapters. This bridges a wire from our
main switch
into the bedroom at the back end of the house. From there, a second Airport
Express
has been ganged together with the primary one.

It's not as fast back there, but it's been fast enough for our needs. This was
cheap-cheap-cheap,
as both the powerline Ethernet bricks and the Airport Expresses were from the
thrift stream.
