I don't recall any major teething pains.
The nice thing about 1981-1982 is I can buy license plates by weight, 
not by the $30k+ MSRP, in Michigan. A 4000lb car is something like $60, 
as opposed to $150ish for a 1983-1985 S class.

It would have been easier to just swap the compressor but I was 
concerned about that rough bearing and I have to go to Little Rock next 
week so I did not have time to order a new one.  They were over $400 at 
flaps for a no name one.

Was stunned to pay $3.799 on Tuesday, then remembered Let's Go Putin.
Today it went up to 4.099, for Regular.
4.79 Diesel.
I never paid over $4 for 87 before.
Paid as high as 4.299 for Premium 10 years ago, and think I paid $4.55 
or more in NY in March of 2012.


Yesterday crude was up something like $7 in one day, to $115/42 gallons.
Was $67 just before New Year's, when I paid 2.83 for 87 Octane.

[MBZ] 210 AC compressor clutch coil

[Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes]

It was a swine of a job but I swapped out the clutch coil. Ended up getting the 
car up on the lift and unbolting compressor. Took quite a while or trying to 
get the compressor in different positions to gain clearance enough to get c 
clips out. Put it all back together with coil and pulley from the parts 
compressor and she works. A lot cheaper than a new compressor and associated 
parts but sure was a pain in the ass.

[MBZ] Ac clutch

Got car home. Clutch turns easy by hand. Pulled the wire to the clutch and 
clutch appears to be open. I double checked to make sure I was hitting the pin 
deep inside the connector and I appear to be. I have another compressor on the 
bench that appears to test good. These are super easy to remove while off the 
car but will be a challenge on the car. There is a c clip holding the pulley on 
then another one deep down at the bottom of the coil. I can remove everything 
just fine except for this last c clip. I’m probably going to have to unbolt the 
compressor and see if I can tilt it up enough to get the c clip pliers on it. 
After removing the front clutch plate off the hub I noticed it was sort of 
greasy behind there. I also noticed the pulley seems rough when spun by hand. I 
thing the bearing is going out. The parts compressor appears to have a good 
sooth spin to it. Compressor itself appears to work fine but beginning to 
wonder if it’s worth messing with or should I just replace the entire 
compressor?

Just passed the next station of the local major chain and it was $4.92. Since 
this chain controls all fuel prices in the area it will soon be $4.92

FIRST thing to check is any connectors down there.  Might just need cleaning

[MBZ] I think the AC clutch coil on the 99 e300 suddenly died

Yesterday ac was working fine and later in the drive was not cooling. Ended up 
having the red ec light stay on. Pulled codes from panel and it came back with 
AC coil. I reset it and light went off but still no cooling. I will test it 
when I get back home but I think coil might have just died. It is charged and 
shows 6 on the panel reading for pressure which is about what it is when 
compressor not running. 

If it shows bad I will see if I have a good one off another compressor and swap 
them. I have done that before I do believe.
