[MBZ] W163 Spare Carrier
Wow! The carrier came down pretty easily, the safety latch was easily discovered and released. The spring loaded device holding the tire in place separated in two when I twisted it with a lever, but reassembled ok with a light mallet blow. Getting the carrier back up...NOT so easy! I t slid back easily enough, pushing forward to get it back so I could drive... NOT. Mallet blows were laughed off. I tried a ratchet strap, no go. Left the ratchet strap tension on and grabbed a BFH. That did the trick. I had looked at a couple of vids, but the only knowledge I gained from them was that my '02 ML has no rust underneath, and that is unusual. Also quite versatile, it was an open-bow Fiberform. Very stable tri-hull front, with a V rear. We used it for fishing, recreation, water-skiing... Stored at home in the barn it was basically never any trouble. I can't imagine any less-expensive (all told) lifetime boating experience. (Excluding small human-powered craft.) Re: [MBZ] Floating temptress
I think my late father-in-law had it down pretty well. He had an 18 foot fiberglass runabout(?) with a decent sized outboard on it that was on a trailer he could park in the carport of their house. He towed it with their Buick to the local launches on the Gulf and just went out to fish or crab. He didn’t have to spend a lot to maintain it, and since he was able to store it at home, there were no real costs involved there. I’m sure he didn’t make any money when he sold it, but I don’t think the overhead during ownership was significant, either. -D > On May 17, 2022, at 11:06 AM, Randy Bennell via Mercedes > wrote: > > I don't think so.
