Oil cooler issues have never arisen in either my E250 or GLK 250.  This is
only a problem in the 6 cylinder models, e.g. ML 350 Bluetec..

I agree, an older mechanical diesel is still desirable but the newer ones with 
DEF and emissions crap and computers required to run them I would avoid. They 
are really only suitable for drivers who need to make frequent long highway 
trips. If you're driving infrequently and/or on mostly short errands they are 
the wrong choice.

That and the highly unlikely possibility that diesel fuel cost will ever 
remotely be equal to or lower than gasoline? I mean, if you’re driving a GTI 
with a 5-speed stick, OK, I get it, but for the average driver and vehicle, 
economy is no longer a significant issue.

Be careful about trailer hitches on 2006 and later MBs. They will typically 
require some serious modifications to add one if it can even be done. In other 
words, if you want a car with a trailer hitch, unless it’s a W163 (98-05 MLs), 
make sure it’s already got one.
