yup.   While our old MBs can run on up to 50% Benzin, it is not
recommended, except in extremely cold situations.  LIke -30 to -40 ºF.
A JD, cat,  or Perkins (MF or marine or other) or Allis chalmers of the
same vintage would blow the head off.

The cost of pumping out the tank and disposal is small compared to trying

controlled diesel with EPA systems, multiple sensors will take damage and
all of the items are expensive to replace and repair costs far exceed just
pumping out the tank.

Suggestion: Purchase a low pressure 12v fuel pump, fittings and polly line
[ace hardware has it in bulk, it's a use one time and discard item anyway...
Connect the aux 12v pump into the tank pickup tube and pump the offending
fuel in to a suitable container.
Refil tank with fresh diesel, change the fuel filter [s] and drive on.

Right, and the wood acts as a wick.   But if you throw a lit match in a
pool of Diesel, the match goes out.   Unless there is some heat (or
pressure) to vaporize the diesel.   Oil burners atomize the fuel under
pressure,  then it burns. Diesel engines inject atomized fuel under high
heat and pressure, and it burns.

Two things - one, Diesel burns, or our engines wouldn't run. Two, a
neighbor - an old farmer - burns piles of trees that he's cleared by
pouring a couple of quarts of Diesel on the pile, and setting it on fire
with one of those long lighters.

I now remember an instance in which diesel fuel did burn. There was a
terrible wreck just outside of DC about 20 years ago involving a Diesel
powered train on the commuter line. The tank ruptured and since it was
under pressure, the fuel burned fiercely, incinerating 10 people inside one
of the cars. It was one of the most awful accidents ever in this area.

Kerosene isn't a ton more volatile than diesel but I'll agree with you that it
is more volatile. I've tried to burn diesel in a lantern before, it'll work but
it needs a ton of preheat, like 2-3x as much as kerosene does. Kero requires
about 5x more preheat than gasoline/white gas.
I've cleaned up kero spills on the gas grill with the torch before, it just
evaporates...

SMell it.   Gasoline stinks.   you could get some indication of
concentration by putting a tsp on the ground and throwing a match at
it.   It is whoofs and burns quickly, it is mostly gasoline.   If the
match goes out and the fuel does not burn, it is Diesel.   a mixture
will be somewhere in between.
