Re: [MBZ] Instrument cluster for 67 200D

Now I have a confession - I decided that since I didn't really know
how many miles were on the car, I would turn the speedometer back to
0.

Oh, you mean the _odo_meter.

That's an entirely different animal! You can probably fix
yours, just re-knurl the driveshaft to the first gear.

My 1962 220Sb odometer had been rolled back by a car dealer. It never did
work.

Thanks for the comments. I had thought I would wire around it - I had
checked the fuse and had replaced all the bulbs.

Now I have a confession - I decided that since I didn't really know how many
miles were on the car, I would turn the speedometer back to 0. I had
done it successfully when I finished the restoration on my Willys. So I did
it on the 200D as well - it didn't go quite as smoothly as with the Willys
and I was a little sceptical as to whether I had it back together properly.
It worked for a few miles and then quit.

So, I'm thinking that if I can round up a whole new instrument cluster, I'll
use it and not touch the odometer! Bob

Sorry, I didn't notice your car doesn't have an electronic component to the
speedo.

I think you might be on the right track about the dimmer, and I think
several list members recommend just wiring around it as the dash lights are
dim enough to not blind you. When I had some of the other issues you
describe it turned out to be a good fuse [tested by multi-meter] whose
contact with the fuse holder had mostly corroded over the years. It got a
small amount of current through it, but not enough to do the job. A
replacement fuse - and not the one I was expecting it to be - cured it.
Now I have a driver side headlight that will not come on unless I first turn
the fog lights on. I can then turn the fog lights off and the headlight
will work as needed for the rest of the day. I think it is mischievous
elves, myself.

I can't seem to get my instrument cluster to behave properly. I think the
problem is the dimmer switch - the dash lights don't work. The speedometer
isn't working either. So I'm wondering if anyone might have a parts car
with an instrument cluster in it?Pictures of the car are at:

You can bypass the dimmer (or even replace it) easily enough,
why not do that? As for the speedo, what's wrong with it?
It's mechanical, not too much to go wrong except a broken
cable.
