I've had the bike sitting upside-down with amonia down the seat post since Saturday evening. Occasional taps with the hammer and this morning I put the pipe wrench on the seat post and tried some torque. I could see the frame flexing along the top bar and the seat post held firm. Next will be hot/cold treatment, I just need to locate a heat gun at work Luther KB5QHUOak Park, IL '87 300SDL (312,xxx mi) '91 Dodge Ram 150 (290,xxx mi) On 4/15/2011 6:51 AM, Mitch Haley wrote: Benz Hogs wrote: Can anyone offer suggestions for breaking a dissimilar metal bond? I've had a similar problem; a pipe inside a pipe. After trying all the solvents; WD-40, 50-50 acetone and light oil, Aero kroil, Blaster, Ruster Eater from Autozone, etc.; I bought an Icee from a convenience store, put a cork in one end of the inside tube, filled the inside tube up with Icee, and heated the outer tube all around with a hair dryer set on high while hitting the open end of the inside tube with a heavy plastic mallet (rubber mallet didn't work). Had to refill the inside tube with cold Icee a couple of times since it melted pretty fast. I was prepared to heat the outside tube with a propane torch if necessary but after about 20 minutes of heating the outside tube and hitting the inside tube with the plastic mallet, it finally moved a little and eventually came out. Neither. It came via my brother-in-law from Pittsburgh. He looked at it and I failed to mention to check the seat post. We checked everything else. I frequent Licktons for tools and occasional parts. Bought a new bottom bracket tool from them tonight and asked about 1' derailleur cable housing, and they gave me 2 1' sections free. Good people there.
