The multiple sets of stairs in our four level home is great for exercise
and keeps the knees supple and limber.

Re: [MBZ] Laundry room Was: Fire extinguisher

2022-12-20 Thread Allan Streib via Mercedes
When I was young I rented a townhose with laundry hookups in an upstairs closet
(machines not included).

I bought a used washer and dryer (surprisingly cheap in those days) and hauled
them up the stairs with an appliance dolly. Not fun, but not too bad. The
washer was the worst, it was an old Maytag and it seemed that the motor and
transmission must have been made from cast iron. It was *heavy*. I don't recall
what I did with them when I moved -- I moved out due to a relationship breakup
so may have just left them for her to deal with.

Re: [MBZ] Laundry room Was: Fire extinguisher

2022-12-20 Thread Randy Bennell via Mercedes
We have a laundry chute that goes from the vanity in the 2nd floor bath
down to a shelf in the basement above the freezer. I have often wondered
if it is a fire hazard. If one had a fire in the basement, it would act
like a chimney and permit the fire to spread upwards. I have thought
about putting some form of trap door on the bottom but I expect my wife
would strongly object.

The kids did enjoy it, too. It was often used as a racetrack for toy cars and
pretty much anything that would fit in it. It was also fun for the occasional
scare when someone was in the upstairs hallway and you yelled up from below. I
had the HVAC guys fabricate the chute with sheet metal so it was near
impossible to get anything stuck in it.
