Canberra British designed, wasn't it? Licensed to Martin for production as B-57. A LOT of difference. B-57 was small/medium twin-engine bomber with wide, straight, thick wings. B-47 was medium/heavy (max gross weight 230 klb) six-engine jet, long-range, nuclear bomber by Boeing with sleek, thin wings swept back at 30° (I think), a design much-copied by every heavy jet airliner since, 'cept Comet. The B-47-like empennage is visible on most jet airliners, including 707 since mid-fifties. B-47 is known by many as father of modern jet airliners. Consider me severely chastised. ;) BTW, y'all shoulda seen me loading the mower deck (don't know total weight, but a PLENTY) onto my trailer by myself yesterday for trip to JD dealer. By judicious use of physics in my favor, I was able to do it in spite of the walker interference (During one part of it, walker tried to get away from me slightly down slope, but I caught it.). Reminds me: I still have in my tool box coupla nice open end wrenches that I confiscated after finding them TWICE wedged in between flaperon actuator and underside of wing spar on my B-47E during a major periodic inspection and repair. (Flaperon is part of the flap that spills with aileron to aid roll control at slow speed and is hydraulically operated at 3000 psi. When sitting on ground, flaps down, if auxiliary power is applied to aircraft, hydraulic pressure would instantly return flaperon to normal down position and shove wrenches through wing spar.) 'Bout midmorning one day in periodic inspection hanger, I found the two wrenches there. 'Removed them, found offending flight controls mechanic, scolded him for his carelessness and stupidity and told him, If I find such as that again, the wrenches will be MINE. 'Came back from lunch and found the wrenches in offending/dangerous position again, therefore, wrenches still in my tool box. Sorry, I've been too engrossed in a mower problem and other possibly insignificant crap for several days to keep up with the ATTABOY presentations. 'Am now planning the deck unloading (safely, hopefully) when I return it. Re: [MBZ] New driver seat is in wow
This reminds me of a conversation I overheard at the Governors ball, Costa the Greek mechanic was speaking to Sir Ian Williams, the famous surgeon and it went something like this. Costa: You know Sir Ian I beena thinking, you know we do pretty much da same job, we open da motor, we looka what is broken and den we fixa it. But you get the fancy title from da Queen and getts paid de big dollars. That's just notta fair you know. Sir Ian: Well my dear chap, I do agree that there are similarities between our professions, however please consider that when I work on a 'motor' it is running and I would think if you could repair a motor while it is running you would be getting suitably rewarded as well. Well that's just fine and dandy, perhaps next week I'll attempt to put fuel in the car and will be named shade tree mechanic of the year. Say, did I ever tell y'all how I amazed a Nobel laureate? Back in the days when I worked at Drexel, a sandyhaired gent walked into my office. Hiya, Mitch! What's that? Hi, Alan! Mercedes carburetor. Just rebuilt it. Amazing. Never could do that sort of thing. And with that, Alan MacDiarmid, Nobel laureate in Chemistry, walked into my boss' office. Yeah right, those things a blind monkey could do with two screwdrivers and a hammer, I am talking about a prescion piece of engineering, forged in the darkest parts of the black forest by magical elves. However to show that i am a most generous and giving person I'll give a belated attaboy for keeping the war machines flying and them nasty commies in their box.
