>We all need to figure out who to or what to blame for it. Increased activity I would think. Less Covid restrictions, more travel, more fuel used. Early on in the lockdowns, there was a glut of crude oil, and no where to store it. Prices actually went negative for a while. Semi tractors and rail engines still used diesel, but petroleum refining can only skew the finished product a few percentage points, so lack of refined gasoline storage capacity nearly shut down refineries. Probably why the fallacy of doing away with fossil fuels is just that. A fallacy. I had chronic lower back pain starting at 40 when I threw my back at work. I then started taking Pilates once/week and doing 30 small crunches (situps) every day. Since then my lower back has been pain free except for getting out of bed in the AM. When I over exert (lifting incorrectly) and it does flare up, it's never for long and an ibuprofen takes care of the pain. Re: [MBZ] OT getting old
Don’t know about that, but when I anticipate a major physical undertaking like this I usually pre-medicate with some naproxen sodium (generic Aleve) and I’m fine for the day. Definitely cuts down on that next day soreness. Whenever I decide to do the AC compressor on the 420E I’ll do this, as it will be a long day under the car with a lot of ups and downs. -D > On May 31, 2020, at 1:31 PM, Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes > wrote: > > As I’m out working on cars today I’m removing the radiator from the e300. > These days when I’m bent over working on something like pulling this radiator > out, I get lower back pain/soreness. Android is way easier than iPhone. A cable will connect you directly, just like a USB drive. Mac doesn't support it well, it requires a driver that I've had mixed luck with. Re: [MBZ] OT getting vid off android phone
I'd say upload to Google Drive folder, set folder permissions so you can access from a PC. Wi-Fi. Dropbox is similar, use that if you already have account. Open the camera app, get to the pix or vids, look for a symbol like a dot with two arrows going to (share button), then share the file to either Drive or Dropbox. Another option would be to plug the phone into computer with USB cable, then use the computer file Explorer to find the files and copy them over. May need to set up USB permissions on the phone. I had a couple at work this week with the bill collector scam where they say there's legal action being taken against you and give you the case number so you can call them and settle up. I called one back today and told them I was from the County's Security Department and I wanted the caller's name, their supervisor, information about their business, etc., so I could forward the information to the legal department for possible prosecution. In my state, anyone making collections has to have a special license to do so, so the first question that gets ask is What is your license number for your company registered with the state? One lady I kept on the phone for maybe half an hour. If you waste enough of their time in the right way apparently they don't call back for awhile. Of course this is complete BS but no matter how nasty I am to them they keep calling. The other day one started saying something in some language I could not understand, and after he tells me in English what insults he was saying about my wife. One of the former owners or possibly renters of my house were Indian, I believe. At least based on what our neighbors tell us they were... They installed an outdoor kitchen on the lanai with a metal backsplash behind the stove. The neighbors said they cooked out here regularly, and the smell was so powerful when they did one neighbor said her kids would come in from the back yard with their eyes all bleary. I'm pretty sure they were cooking curry or something comparable, as I was cleaning the top of the ceiling fan in the family room, which the kitchen opens out to, and there was something nasty all over the top of the fan that required a lot of elbow grease and industrial strength cleaner to remove. Nasty stuff. I can't imagine what it does to your innards. Served the curry over rice; it was almost dry and amazingly good. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Re: [MBZ] Keep getting gelled
ULSD meets the ASTM Spec for ULSD. LowSD meets the ASTM SPec for Low SD. THere was an older spec for DIesel fuel. Allan is correct. Older pumps were designed for the lubricity of Diesel or Low SD. ULSD, without additive does not have the lubricity provided by sulfur in older fuels. Suppliers are supposed to add and additive during this transition period, but it is anyone's guess if they do. The best way to know you are getting fuel with adequate lubricity is to buy B2 if you can. The Bosch inline IPs are very robust, and will run a long time, even on ULSD before they wear out. Even when worn out, they are not likely to leave you stranded. You will notice missing at idle or other warnings before failure. For the use most people put on their OM 616 or 617, I agree, the lubricity issue will probably not affect them. But if you want an engine to run over 300k miles, you might want to take some precautions with your fuel. Johns CDI was designed for ULSD, and if should be expected to run just fine on ULSD. If anyone still has an engine with the Bosch pump with the oil filler on top, not lubricated with engine oil, it is important to drain and refill the IP body with motor oil about twice a year or very 10k miles or so. (or every other oil change.) This will help to keep your pump lubricated properly in spite of the fuel. At 02:57 PM 2/11/2009, you wrote: Allan Streib wrote: The older pumps used on OM617s and the older engines may have been designed with the expectation that there was more lubrication in the fuel than ULSD has I've also put about 20k miles on my 2.5T as well (brother drives it now). No problems at all. ULSD should meet the ASTM specifications for diesel... and there are lubricity requirements... I do not believe the lubricity requirements decreased in the specification, and as a result, the refineries should have added additives of their own to make the ULSD meet the lubricity requirements. Re: [MBZ] Keep getting gelled
Carbon buildup means you don't drive enough or you drive too slow... Marshall said a quart once a year as a tonic wouldn't hurt anything and might actually (in conjunction with italian tune up style driving) could help with carbon buildup because it would burn hotter than diesel fuel. He also noted that there might be a loss (which I've detected) in fuel economy while using it. I've noted a small reduction in engine noise while using motor oil (at one point I used maybe 10% motor oil because I found a source for $0.25/qt) but it goes away quickly upon return to straight diesel. I'm talking about as a tonic here. If I were using it as a fuel lubrication enhancer I'd talk about a lot less oil, more like a pint per tank. Probably wouldn't hurt anything, probably wouldn't help anything either... -Curt Date: Tue, 10 Feb 2009 16:50:54 -0800 From: tyler casi...@usermail.com Subject: Re: [MBZ] Keep getting gelled To: Mercedes Discussion List mercedes@okiebenz.com Message-ID: 499220ee.7080...@usermail.com Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed I don't remember Marshall recommending anything like that either. Yea, I think you're right. I can't see how it would make any difference at all one way or another. As for carbon, and cleaning out the fuel system- I don't think anything compares to an italian tuneup while running 100% Biodiesel! Biodiesel is a really good solvent for cleaning out the engine, it even cleans out the tank (hence the filter clogging). For me, it put out big clouds of old soot the first few times, and after that the engine idles smoother, accelerates quicker, and has ZERO visible smoke except on full throttle. Tyler Curt Raymond wrote: Carbon buildup means you don't drive enough or you drive too slow... Marshall said a quart once a year as a tonic wouldn't hurt anything and might actually (in conjunction with italian tune up style driving) could help with carbon buildup because it would burn hotter than diesel fuel. Thanks for all that info! When you take off the fuel filler cap, do you hear a whoosh? if so, your vent line is plugged. You may just be starving it for fuel. The vent line is a lot easier than crawling under, getting a face and arms full of diesel fuel to get the tank drained and pull the screen. If you try to drain the tank, get new hose stubs first from Rusty. Unless yours have been replaced in the last 5 yrs, they need to be replaced. Often that solves the fuel starvation problems, as the hoses don't leak fuel, but will draw in air, causing fuel starvation. they are threaded on on the tank end and plain hose for a clamp on the other. Get new clamps also. I've had to use a dremel to cut them off. If you are really cheap like me, you cut the ferrules off the threaded end of the hose, and just buy new hose and 4 hose clamps. that is a little tougher on the 123 on the suction side, as you have to fit the clamp so the seal cover fits back on right. But it CAN be done. I've never had gelling until it is below zero., usually under 10 below. At 07:08 PM 2/8/2009, you wrote: I don't have gelling problems in 20 degree weather. It is low teens and below where the problem surfaces. I replaced both fuel filters and it still happens. Screen? Do you mean in the tank? In a lab you might be able to detect a repeatable fraction of a degree variation. At 20-25 degrees F, the regular #2 should be ok too. Are you sure there is not a plugged screen, plugged vent, plugged fuel filter or similar problem? Air leaking into the lines can wreak havoc too. The 73 220D which I'm in the process of restoring rarely had gelling issues. It's basically the same engine so I don't know why that is. I actually used to use B100 in that car and in cold - around 20-25 degrees F the biodiesel would turn to a slurry and miraculously the car would actually run!
