I'm almost militantly moderate and don't really see anything all that appealing
in either candidate. I voted in the Republican primary for Ron Paul...

That said I'm going to vote Obama mostly to give the finger to the racists.

It's encouraging to see you have done some homework instead of doing what
many are doing - signing on to the obama bandwagon because he says Change in
a interesting way.

I hope others will take the time to see how he has voted on various issues
and what he has said on his books.   He has told us all we need to know that
this man is not good for America.

Also, there are several types of people who will vote this year - those who
will vote for obama *because* be is black and those who will not vote for
him for the same reason.  Both of these are racist although the 1st would
not admit it.

Then there are those who vote party lines regardless of who is running and
then there's the smallest group of all - those who investigate and do their
homework to find out who will do those things good for the economy and
protect us and maintain a strong America.

One could make a case that most of the racism so far has come

I am hopeful that Rice will be McCain's running mate. From

Recently there was an interview with a black man and after asking for the
reasons he was voting for obama he could only offer 1 reason - because he
promises to end the war - then he said he would vote for obama because he
was black like himself. The interviewer said, so, if a white person was
voting for the white candidate because he was white would you say he was a
racist? Absolutly was the answer - without any clue he had just described
himself.

Obama says on page 215 of his _Audacity of Hope_ book I
believe in keeping guns out of our inner cities, and our leaders must
say so in the face of the gun manufacturers' lobby. I guess this is
the standard urban liberal view. He appears to have voted for
restrictive gun laws at every opportunity.

Obama's extreme urbanity troubles me. I have read both his
books and I can't remember any instances of him doing anything
practical or enjoying the outdoors. No gardening, hiking, hunting,
fishing, cycling, building, mowing, boating.or biking. No interest
in machinery. He plays basketball, that most urban of sports.

I suspect he understands less about others than he thinks he
does. His stereotypes can be awkward. For example, here is an
excerpt from his Values chapter in _Audacity of Hope_, page 57:

..our democracy might work a bit better if we recognized that
all of us possess values worthy of respect: if liberals at least
acknowledged that the recreational hunter feels the same way about
his gun as they feel about their library books, and if conservatives
recognized that most women feel as protective of their right to
reproductive freedom as evangelicals do of their right to worship.

Gaak. In real life there are many hunters who use libraries and
liberals (or at least Democrats) that don't but do hunt. These are
not contrasting groups/values. IMHO he is just showing his ignorance
of people unlike himself. He doesn't say exactly what reproductive
freedom for women amounts to although I gather free abortion is a
big part of it. To him conservatives always are hung up on the most
 narrow sort of religion.

Obama champions an activist government. I am sure he will want
glorious new programs for the urban poor.
