Oh I wasn't talking about the engine bits. I was thinking more
that it might be styling bits that would make the car look just a
bit different. I'm not really into the go fast stuff as much as I
used to be, though a nice handling package that would reduce the
roll probably wouldn't go amiss.

I'll search for the ones you mentioned and see what I find.

I'm not sure, as the AMG catalog I have was before AMG was
absorbed by
Mercedes. As for the the body kits, there may be a few couple of
places out
there that have copied the old AMG bits. I think Ronial make or
made a rim
very similar to what was offered during the period by AMG. As
for engine
bits, I have no idea, but there are probably much better options
today for
such projects anyway. For what your dollar would buy you in NOS
AMG parts,
or used bits, you could probably do an engine swap and end up
with just as a

much, or more power, and replacement parts wouldn't be such a hassle
either. There is a guy on YouTube who has a W123 wagon, with a
560 engine
in it. Nicely done from the looks of it. I think I have the
link somewhere
if interested in me posting it? If you can get your hands on an
older
catalog by a company called (from memory, GW), they offered all
kind of
kits for a variety of cars in Germany. Not sure if any company
still offers
bits for the W123, but at least an old catalog would give you
some of the
names of companies that once did, so you could then take your
search to eBay

and such places.

Original (pre mercedes) AMG parts are pretty much made of
unobtainium now,
and priced accordingly. But things like old 560 engines are now
plentiful,
and cheap, so these projects can happen, if you have the time to
invest
yourself. If not, paying someone to do them can still run kind
of high,

even if the parts can be had cheap.

Re: [MBZ] RUF

2010-12-19 Thread E M
Manfred,

I just dug out the old catalog. I can't see a print date on it, but it
contains a few pages for the W201, so that would probably put it about '84
or so?

The W123 section consists of 4 pages, with pictures of sedan, coupe, and
wagon. They mention an improved brake package, and improved handling, as
well as shock and spring sets. I was trying to find some specs on them, in
hope you could match them up with some other current manufacture.

The rims look very much like a rim Ronial offered, but I'm 90% the AMG rims
were stamped as AMG rims on the backside. Body kits consist of front dam,
sill extensions (quite subtle really, and a rear valence. They also offer
their own differential, as well as their own modified 5 speed gearbox.
Various other interior and trim items.

They have a couple of nice wooden boxes that fit into the space between the
front seats. I know someone was making one for themselves on the list a
couple of years back. I'm thinking about making one for the W124.

To be honest, you may have to wait a bit for me to get that scanner hooked
up. If you like, you can drop me a P.O. Box address off list, and I'd be
happy to photocopy what pictures I have here and mail them off to you. Not
a lot of pictures, but a few to give you an idea of what they did with the
old W123.

I'll have to dig a bit deeper for for those old GW catalogs.

I think that 1.2 meg is a bit too large for the list. You could
send them to me direct and then I can reduce them and send them
on to the list. Though to be honest a scan of the catalog would
probably come out better then a picture of it.

I think that most email programs have a button to click on that
will allow you to attach pictures or files to an email. The exact
procedure will be different for every program. Not too much help
I know but usually it's just a matter of follow the prompts.

I have several pics of a meet my friend attended a few years back, with Mr.
Ruf and also the original Yellowbird in attendance. He has been lucky
enough to sample several of Ruf's models, along with a CTR. Not the
original Yellowbird, as it was undergoing a full restoration at the time,
but a later production model. That old bird had a lot of miles on it, and I
would imagine more than a few offs, so it was in need of a bit of
freshening.

While my friend was out in the CTR, he was asked when he returned if he
managed 300 kph. He said no, only 270kph. Stefan then took him out for a
quick blast, and I think he said they saw 310 or so. Tha's about what they
clocked his RTC at on the autobahn as well, before packing it up and
shipping it over. The man really does stand behind is products.

I still have the original RUF sales brochure for North America. I also have
the press release kit for the CRT2, from when I was editor of our regions
