For sure. One day I’ll get things swapped out so they make sense. I’ve found
heated seats, even in warm weather, can have some therapeutic effects on a sore
lower back. At least I thought they did from the times I’ve used them. And yes,
in a cold car they definitely help to warm you up.

Looks nice, not a crazy price.  The radios in these were kinda crap
anyway, the volume knobs all quit working, the displays go wonky, so
something updated is a common upgrade, nice to have BT and whatnot.
Plus it probably has NAV too which is a plus

Yeah, too bad I’m not in the market or I would be looking at this. It’s got a
boatload of nice options, like xenons, rear sunshade, etc., etc.

Right in my neighborhood somewhere, too, from the description.

I am wondering if the state of Warshingturds is turning a blind eye to the
importation of lemons and insco scrapped cars. Since the flooding in Houston,
I am seeing a significant uptick in cars bearing TX plates or other identifying

I'm thinking W116, at least that's what everybody always said. The W126 marked
MBZ's entry into the modern world, and I think the W123 was more mass
production than handbuilt.

2017-05-31 Thread Randy Bennell via Mercedes
I should have thought that red MB convertible that you had (maybe still
have) would have fit that bill pretty nicely given where you live.
The reason I am reluctant to buy a newer boat has a lot to do with the
cost of one. I would not use it enough to justify the cost.
If I had a $40K boat I would be paying a lot for insurance and I would
be much more worried about it getting scratched up while tied at the
dock etc.
I don't mind being something of a bottom feeder for boats although I
have been looking at ones that run closer to $10K.
I really do not want a fancy fiberglass thing with lots of upholstery. I
would rather have a more rugged aluminum boat but they do not seem as
common around here and they hold their value well so the cost would
likely be closer to $20K for a decent one and that is getting beyond
what I really want to spend on a boat. The newer 4 stroke outboards are
nice but expensive and the cost of repairs will be substantial if it
goes bad too.
Bigger older 2 stroke motors use too much fuel so I have generally been
looking at 4 or 6 cylinder inboard outboards.

I don't think safety is a big issue with a boat. No seat belts or air
bags etc. Speed is probably the biggest issue with boats. There are lots
of them that will exceed 70 mph and that is sort of silly. I have no
need to go that fast on the water. Accidents happen but are more
avoidable on open water. Failure to pay attention is the most likely
cause. A 20 foot boat is big enough for the waters we use and still
small enough to fairly easily launch and retrieve etc. The only real
issue is reliability as I don't want to be out on the lake and have the
motor give up. We would have a smaller auxiliary outboard engine but it
would take some time to come home. Cell phone coverage is ok so we could
possibly call for help and get someone to come tow us in. I don't think
of that as a safety item however in comparison to cars. Old cars are
generally not as safe as newer cars - especially if one goes back into
the 50's and 60's. I know Mercedes was a leader in designing safer cars
but the old ones generally cannot match the newer ones.

I am rambling so I will stop now.

Admire from afar and stick with cars a bit newer would be my advice.
I see cars in traffic every day that look really nice but I truly do not want
to own them.
New Corvettes are a perfect example. They look really nice but I sure don't
want to own one.

With that car and that distance shipping is a no-brainer. I can't see taking an
unknown 50+ year old car on a 2000+ mile journey.
It'd maybe make a good episode of "Roadkill". Maybe pitch them the idea.

Son of a b….

I never thought about him - he goes by “gcvisalia”.

Already dropped him an email.

Talked to the seller., Some Hispanic guy I could hardly understand, doesn’t
know the car, bought it from a local mechanic that owned it for many years.
When I asked him about things like the back seat and headliner, he said
something about how he paid a guy to "put up all of those pictures on
Craigslist.”

I explained to him that there was nothing of the sort in the ad…

More as I know it.

Thanks, Mao!

I want a “fun” car to drive for leisure and on the weekends when the weather is
nice. The other cars are nice, but they’re transportation. I like to have
something that’s unique and unusual, and a finnie is one car I’ve always liked
ever since I had my 1962 300SE.

I could ask you why do you want so many boats? Why don’t you buy a newer one
instead of old ones you never get going? I doubt they’re all that much fun or
safe compared to a modern boat.

I rest my case, counselor.

The headlights look strange to me, too.

So what is responsible for the plastic headlight fad/craze?

   Safety regs?

   Aerodynamics?

   Cheapness?

About all cars these days have the faded headlight look because they are
plastic.

That is more true than I expected. There are a host of these things at the
knackers, such that they do not make it to PnP. Too many spare parts that can
be sold on to keep the turds rolling on the road. Sadly, the parts I need are
those most prone to be needed by everybody else.

I think the Klebster is on to something here….

While I don’t know the W210 chassis’ cars, I do know the W220s, and they are
nothing but a ticking time bomb with limited longevity. They are nice cars
when they work, but the engineering, fit and finish on them is the functional
equivalent of a Hyundai or Kia, in my humble opinion.

The W220 is a throwaway car. You drive it until something catastrophic breaks
on it, then send it off to the knackers.

This model suffers from front spring perch rust, and poor quality electronics.
However, if they are still on the road now, I'll bet most of the electronics
issues have been addressed.

They also have the OM606 engine with the really long glow plugs that can break
off during removal.

After that, normal wear items. Tires, brakes, battery, starter, alternator,

Do these cars also have the transmission conductor plate issue?
