Baby powder is a great lubricant that my mechanic used on my slow-moving SLC
rear windows with great effect. Roll down the windows and dust liberally.

Now I just need to find a toasted SL or SLC from whence to harvest the later

The door regulators are pretty robust. Pull the panel. Snap clips
at rear and bottom, screw in the armrest. then bunp up on the bottom
of the door liner to get it loose.

check to see that the guide on the front of the window is riding on
the front slide correctly. check the rear guide.

If you take out all 4 bolts holding the window to the regulator, you
can slide the window up and down by hand to determine what is
binding. If the windows slides freely, then check the
regulator. look for worn teeth on the rack and the drive gear.

Sunroof gleitpaste should work ok. I like moly gun grease, as it
 never hardens.

Though baby powder will collect moisture and dirt. MB sunroof lube
will not. Buy it from Rusty in the metal tin, it'll last you for a
lifetime. I also use it to lube the gears in my 126 odometer after
installing new gears.

If you're a purist, OK. But you can't gloop it on - you have to remove the
panels and apply it carefully, unlike the carefree baby powder dusting
prescribed as a pragmatic solution.

Would graphite be an alternative to the baby powder that wouldn't absorb
moisture? IIRC, removing those rear panels to access the rear widow
mechanisms are not an easy job. Several trim pieces to be removed, after
taking the rear seat completely out.

Channel wear: that makes perfect sense. I'm afraid to ask what those cost...
Let's hope they haven't fallen prey to the revisionist pricing that MB seems
to be applying to some items lately...

This will definitely hasten the death of the regulator, which is an

Some dry silicone lubricant in the channel will help, but not much.

Indeed, the door checks are quite massive. But I imagine that's fitting for the
length and weight of the doors. And for the price, those damned regulators
better be an improvement over the POS W108/W123 things.

Incidentally, is it reasonable to conclude that 107 door hinge pins are not
individually swappable (they must be pressed in there rather tightly) and that
one would have to swap in a new hinge assembly, eg to deal with slackness...

Are the vertical guide rails the place to dab a little lubricant,
or is there something else that's likely to be binding? Is the MB
