I’ve done this on cars I wasn’t interested in. That is, I went to look at one
and decided I didn’t want it. I’ll usually offer advice to address issues,
deficiencies or offer marketing ideas if the owner seems interested. It’s the
right thing to do in my mind. Of course, there have been some I wouldn’t give
the time of day to if they were asses, even if there was a simple fix.

Good. (Literally!)

My bet is that it's the CPS, and if it isn't it probably needs one soon anyway.
That and the can of WD-40, and maybe you're golden.

Our suddenly cantankerous and strand-ey E320 has behaved flawlessly since
the CPS was replaced. Good thing it had only ever done it to me, else the wife

You are welcome. I was just surprised they are still made; the
four-cylinder pumps were an added benefit.

As Jim said, you could use his test refrigerant to check the system out
before committing to R-12. I think, though, it will work only during your
"cool" seasons.

IIRC, the test refrigerant has a upper temperature limit above which it
does not cool effectively. Grant being in Arizona would most certainly
hit that limit frequently.

From the description, I think the sprinter dimension is saying it could
run circles inside a 50' square or circle, (OD) while the hondog gives
turning radius, which is half the inside front tyre to inside front tyre
circle.   (Tyre ID)   so we really don't know which turns tighter.

My H beats both, as it has a turning radius of about 6" depending on
traction and tires.

Randy Bennell via Mercedes
December 6, 2019 at 3:41 PM
Google search suggests the Sprinter needs 47'6" and the Odyssey needs
33' 2".

I might be comparing apples to oranges as the descriptions are different.
For the Sprinter the data says 47'6" wall to wall turn and for the
Odyssey it says 6.05 M turning radius so I assumed the turning circle
was double the radius.
However, I wonder if the Sprinter includes the overhanging bits front
and back and if the Odyssey numbers are just at the wheels. I would
think, however that the Sprinter has much more overhang, especially on
the back and thus would likely take more room to turn.

6.05Mx2 = 39'9". Was that the longest model Honda?
Which is still surprisingly good if curb-to-curb (a smaller number than wall to
wall).
My Chevy Citation was 39' something curb-to-curb.

 Randy,
With a larger vehicle its often easier to back into a parking space than it is
to back out. I've found in some cases with our Dodge 1500 that sometimes I've
easily pulled into a space that is now a bugger to back out of.This is a case
where you backup camera will be really helpful because its in the confined
space rather than out where you can already see with the mirrors.
The trick of course is to practice, practice, practice. Angie and I went to a
restaurant the other day where I had to parallel park. I hadn't parallel parked
in probably 3 years and it took me 3 infuriating tries. I used to be really
good at parallel parking but a skill not used will atrophy.

There is a BIG, brand new Mercedes Sprinter in the driveway! It is the
144”WB 12 passenger model with nearly every option but 4Matic,
graphite gray with black interior and MB-Tex seats. It had 6 whole
miles on it before the 30 mile trip home. The just over $50K loaded
Honda Odyssey is so much less van than this Sprinter at just under
$60K. Hopefully, Ody will find a home soon as it’s much better to sell
it rather than bend over and trade it in. Once I get Doodlewagen
outfitted with some non-skid mats, running boards and some assist
handles for easier entry, she’ll be ready for work!

2018-02-17 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
Harness is done. Pig of a job, but definitely easier than the W140 lower
harness which is far more complex.

Started right up and idled quite smooth. Didn’t drive it but I still have an
ASR light. Grr.

Tomorrow it gets the hood pad and I start on the paint recovery. I’m going to
put the C3 to it again and see if anything new is going on with codes.

Oldest son comes home last night and says that Tommy’s S420 is showing
ABS/BAS/ASR lights and he has no cruise. Hmm.

I’m thinking maybe a dirty speed sensor on one of the wheels.

Put the Chinee DAS system on the car, let it run a full set of
diagnostics. Five minutes later, we have a diagnosis - brake light
switch. Notes in the DAS suggest checking the third brake light for
shorts/grounds.

Look at third brake light - doesn’t work. Housing is forward 203 inches
off the base, for some reason (oldest son offers no reasons.) Check
lamp - OK. Put housing back on base, make sure wires ren’t touching
anything, reinstall cover.

Brake light works, no more error codes. ABS/BAS/ASR lights are now out
after clearing codes.

Nice.

They’re a coop. That’s why they’re so accommodating. If they were we a state
regulated electric utility, they wouldn’t be giving him the time of day, much
less purchasing his power.

If you read the article I linked to, it highlights one of the weasely things
the legislators are doing to try and stay above the fray while keeping the
utilities happy - You want to force me to buy power? Sure! Only make me pay
$0.02-$0.03 a KwH rather than the rate I make you pay. That way they can say
they’re doing what’s expected of them for point-of-use but making it
financially unattractive for the consumer.

I beg to disagree. Just because a Florida electric company is a coop doesn't
mean they treat their customers well and/or give rebates.

1. Escambia River Electric Cooperative
2. Choctawhatchee Electric Cooperative
3. West Florida Electric Cooperative
4. Gulf Coast Electric Cooperative
5. Talquin Electric Cooperative
6. Tri-County Electric Cooperative
7. Suwannee Valley Electric Cooperative
8. Okefenoke Electric Cooperative
9. Clay Electric Cooperative
10. Central Florida Electric Cooperative
11. Sumter Electric Cooperative
12. Withlacoochee Electric Cooperative
13. Peace River Electric Cooperative
14. Glades Electric Cooperative
15. Florida Keys Electric Cooperative
16. PowerSouth Energy Cooperative
17. Seminole Electric Cooperative

These are the members of the Florida Electric Cooperatives Association.
Most do not give rebates, and most point out that the state program, which was
a joke, has ended.

The reason Manfreds coop gives rebates is that they operate in the same county
as Gainesvilles GRU which is far to the left of most coops. If they didn't the
left wing activists at UF would be giving them a fit, and the GRU might be
crossing their lines to supply power to county residents.

Read this and you'll understand:

http://www.gainesville.com/article/20081013/NEWS/810140283

When we moved to Florida 70 years ago the state government, which was dominated
by the Democratic Party, was gloriously corrupt.
Idealistic young people like myself at that time were frustrated because
nothing could be done about it.
Now, the Republican Party dominates the state government, and the state
government is still gloriously corrupt.
Idealistic young people like yourself are frustrated because nothing can be
done about it.
The moral of that story is that anytime a political party has a lock on a
majority of local elections there will be serious corruption.
Note: There were "democratic" periods when neither party dominated, but even
then entrenched corruption, such as with power companies, persisted.

Yep, but the bad part is that they still don't pay as much as
they charge and you still have to pay the fuel surcharge on all
the electricity you use from the line even if you replace it
later, or so I was told by one person. I have gotten different
stories including that the electricity usage cancels out with the
replacement and there is no extra charge. Hard to tell what it is
till it all starts.

Can you produce for your own use?

Or put another way, if you have the power co pull the meter and cut
the line, can anyone stop you from putting up solar elect. panels?
Or how long would it be until the gestapo makes you take em down.
Maybe ALCLU would provide you a lawyer.

(oops, forgot they are not interested in "civil liberties.")

Hawaii has lotsa people who live off grid. Not much on Oahu, but on
Hawaii and other islands, off grid is not unusual. The utilities are
just not available. There is a lot of solar there.

What about the lobbyists for the power utilities who get laws passed
that make it impossible to use solar at your home?

The "Sunshine State" has some of the most restrictive laws regarding
