Main masses, football-sized planetaries, coffee-table sized slabs of pallasite, and historical rarities populate many high-end collections. But, what I am curious about is - number of localities. What collector has the most localities represented in their collection? This number could include sub-gram micros, so I am thinking that the biggest collection (in terms of localities and not specimen size) might not belong to one of the obvious heavyweights we would expect. If there was a leaderboard for number of localities, who would be sitting on top of that list? Using the EOM website as a rough guide, it seems that Gerald Armstrong has an impressive catalog of localities. But not every major collector uses the EOM, so who is top dog? For the record, my own collection numbers about 80 localities. This number fluctuates frequently because my collection has a high turnover rate, and I have had to sell off my entire collection three times to pay bills. My locality count has dipped as low as 10 and peaked as high as 130. Of course, this is small potatoes. LOL. This is the 5 TV interview I've given since arriving. http://dfw.cbslocal.com/video/6713580-meteor-hunters-scouring-north-texas/ We spent the day interviewing more witnesses compiling and extending the range of sonic boom farther to the east to include Wills Point, and southern Lake Tawakanii. We'll do some field samplings tomorrow east of 19. Also as a warning. I've heard from a local that the landowner who owns the land in the north where the upper radar blip is, has gotten very hostile to all outsiders. The local warned me to tell everyone to stay off that property. He thinks the landowner may shoot to wound or maim. So I'd like everyone to take that threat to heart. At this point, we have two new important observations and think the strewnfield to be east of 19 now. At this point, there have been no Z sightings, but the Black Panther remains a constant threat. 5 dogs were killed. Also, the park rangers at the state park warned us that a mountain lion has been spotted in the area. Some sonic boom activity has been traced back to some individual using some kind of reactive explosive that detonates when shot by a bullet. The local police has informed us this has been a bit of a problem for weeks. I am very new to the meteorite collection and just fell in love with them when I purchased my first set of these from Martin Horejsi. My experience with him was so pleasant that I just assumed that others in the meteorite community will be just like him. He didn’t want me to buy anything but asked me to learn about them before he would even consider selling them to me. I guess I should have known this since he is a professor by day and meteorite collector by night. After I spent 3 days learning about meteorites and their classification with him at an education event, he sent me home with the briefcase full of meteorites and told me to pay when I get home and think about it again. He told me that he will take anything and everything back if I ever decided that I have made a mistake in purchasing them. Back to Martin Altman and Stefan, it was a different experience. Martin will tell great story about each meteorite and kept suggesting to buy it. I was willing to look at these well described meteorites since I was assured of full refund if I return them within 3 weeks (their website clearly states that any customer can ask for full refund for any reasons within 30 days). They asked me to pay them full amount by wire (which should have been my first warning sign) before shipping them but they again assured me that I can return anything within 3 weeks. I contacted Martin back within hours of my receiving the meteorites to let him know that I plan to return 2 out of 9 meteorites because they didn’t look how I imagined from the picture and their description. I also did a bit of research on them and was not thrilled with their quality. I am not sure if the meteorites are fake but they are certainly very low quality for the premium price I paid for these. I have since gotten to know Greg Hupe Adam Hupe and Michael Farmer. They each have given me unconditional 30 days money back guarantee and I have really enjoyed working with them. I tried very hard to resolve the issue with Martin and Stefan but Stefan didn’t want to resolve anything and told me Martin has no authority to return anything but can only sell stuff on his behalf. I am still hoping that Meteorite community can put enough moral pressure on Stefan and Martin Altman to do the right and fair thing. Just to answer your question specifically, I wanted to return Lunar Kreep because it just doesn’t look right to me and it was never touched, polished or modified in any way. Martin had one Urelite that needed classification but Stefan didn’t want to slice the piece for classification so he hammer broke a piece to send for analyses. Martin suggested that they should polish the broken surface before sending it to me along with polishing one other green Lunar meteorite that desperately needed polishing. I simply agreed what Martin said he needed to do before shipping with these meteorites. Irrespective, I am not even returning the Urelite specimen that was polished anyway. I think it was simply a greed and large sum that blinded them of their morals and obligations. Stefan and Martin Altman finally decided to sell their soul for large sum of money. One of the main goals of curation at JSC is preserving the collection for posterity and for future study with instruments not yet imagined or by scientists not yet born. The Moon rocks are treated like a national treasure. As many of you may know, the curation protocols at JSC are the gold standard for extraterrestrial sample handling. For example, the collection is kept in high purity nitrogen, only materials restricted to of short list of aluminum, stainless steel, and Teflon are allow to touch the samples. The curation facility was built as a clean lab with positive air pressure, airlocks, and is operated by a highly trained staff. The Lunar Vault is built to withstand hurricanes, tornadoes, and floods -- and just to be on the safe side NASA has placed 15% of the collection at White Sands Test Facility, a few miles outside Las Cruces, New Mexico, locked away for safe keeping just in case of a catastrophic loss of the Lunar Lab in Houston. When people think about what a Mars Sample Return Lab design might look like, the first place they start from is the Lunar Sample Lab. Clearly, JSC does a fabulous job of handling, curating, and keeping the lunar samples safe, there is no museum or private collector in the world that comes close to Lunar Lab quality. However, the one thing that I think is missing from this facility is an equally spectacular public outreach component. Sure, the public can look at a few Moon rocks at museum displays here and there nationwide, but very few people ever get the privilege of being a visitor at the Lunar Lab. It is NOT open to the public. I think NASA, and JSC in particular, could enhance its image and boost public excitement and support for astromaterials research by somehow giving better public access to view these crown jewels in their laboratory setting. You may have guessed already that I'm not a big proponent of selling off the Moon Rocks to fund NASA missions, as a few people on the list have proposed. Even if Americans thought this was a good idea, I am pretty sure we would come up a few billion dollars short to do anything like a decent robotic Mars Sample Return. Furthermore, I doubt if many Americans would be in favor of cutting up pieces of the Declaration of Indepence or chunks of the Liberty Bell to sell as high priced souvenirs, or sell off tracts of Yellowstone Park to reduce our nation's debt. There must be some leftovers or crumbs from the ANSMET collection that would fetch a small fortune on the collector market. I'd pay a premium for micromounts from ANSMET. I didn't mean any disrespect towards the US, NASA, or science by suggesting that NASA should sell off a small portion of it's collection. And I agree that the proceeds from the sale would not be nearly enough to fund a space mission. But I think it could generate a useful amount of cash that could be put towards good purposes. I also agree that the Apollo and ANSMET collections should be more accessible to the public. Perhaps a permanent in-house display with a self-guided tour could generate a small amount of revenue - charge for admission and have a gift shop located by the entry/exit with tiny lucite-encased samples for sale, themed collector displays, and memorabilia (T-shirts, etc). Of course, it would have to be done tastefully and respectfully, so it would seem too commercial. This is surely a pipe-dream, but us laymen have to dream.. :) One more idea just occurred to me - sell one spot per year on the ANSMET team to the highest competent bidder. As it stands now, one has to be degreed to be considered (or be a well-recommended grad student). But if they would allow the advanced layman to bid for chance to join the team, I know I would register to bid in a heartbeat! But I do think the Lunar Collection could be

Thanks guys for the answers but let's keep it peaceful here, I wasn't trying to start a pissing contest. Sterling, I appreciate the detailed answer and that certainly explains alot. I was only referring to Chixalub becasue it was on TV and it was big. We could be talking about ANY impact of that size, nothing specific. My specific question was where the fire from an impact came from. I realize now about the heat energy created is great enough to ignite a fire unlike a bullet. Though I do know a bullet creates a certain amount of heat energy upon impact, enough to melt steel. I guess I was looking at it in too simple of terms.i.e. if I drop a rock at 40,000ft/sec what would make it ignite on impact. Didn't seen to me a rock hitting the ground should ignite, but now I see there are many other factors that come into play. -- Stuart McDaniel Lawndale, NC IMCA#9052 http://www.facebook.com/Stuart.McDaniel.No.1 Barrett barret...@comcast.net wrote: = Dear Mr. Sterling K. Simple evidence that your statement isn't so is the worldwide iridium deposition at the K/T Boundary is directly attributed to the event cited in the original question- Chixalub impact Our (mankinds) best attempt at nuclear conversion is only a few percent of the available fusionable material. For the most part your reply was technically sound and eloquent, but the attitude Let's get our physics straight. I feel was uncalled for, offensive and downright nitpicking. The mechanisms being talked about here: burning from entry and inertia... travel[ing] into the earth are missing the point. These are not causes, but rather effects. All isolated, disconnected bodies have a certain amount of energy in them. A small asteroid traveling through space has energy that can be described in many way depending on what other body you reference it to. All bodies in free motion in a field, like a gravitational field, have a potential energy determined by their position and their motion. Imagine you are standing in your backyard with a nice chunk of rock in your hand. Motionless in your hand, held up by a force from your muscles equal to the Earth's gravitational pull, it has no kinetic energy at all, because it isn't moving. But it does have potential energy. It you were to release it, that rock would move under the invisible influence of the mysterious gravity field that we all take for granted because we've lived in it all our lives. It would start to fall... It would speed up as it fell and acquire an increasing amount of kinetic energy, more the faster it went. Oddly, its total energy wouldn't change. No, its potential energy would decrease as its kinetic energy increased because it was getting closer to the center of the gravitational field, a position of less potential energy. And the total energy of the rock, the sum of its potential and kinetic energy would be constant, unchanging. Dropping rocks is not that exciting, so let's throw that rock straight up with all your strength, as high as you can toss it. It's going very fast when it leaves your hand, but as it rises and gets further away from the center of the Earth's force field of gravity, it goes slower and slower. Its potential energy is increasing from its new position at the expense of its declining kinetic energy. Finally, all the energy you gave the rock from your muscles will be transformed into potential

Although, the damage done would depend on several factors, including the angle and speed of the descent. The type of roof would make a difference also. The roof of an industrial or hardened structure might resist penetration, but I think a typical residential or commercial roof would be penetrated to great effect by an 8-pound meteorite. However unlikely, it could have fallen from the wheel well of an airplane. It could have also been thrown by a large wood chipper operating a block away. Also, one cannot discount the power of drunken hooligans who like to cause damage for no logical reason. With meteorite hammer falls being so rare, there are a multitude of possible explanations that are more likely, even though some scenarios might seem far-fetched. Strange things happen. Yes, there are meteorites that are bought and sold illegally, and that's bad. There are also a hell of a lot of meteorites in research collections that would be rusting away in a desert somewhere if it weren't for collectors. That's good. I have no doubt that Ralph is fully aware of both sides of the argument, and I highly doubt that he intended to label all meteorite collection everywhere as a flaming travesty against all of humanity, the majority of puppies, and most unicorns everywhere. Here's another recent article that makes a point pertinent to this discussion (before it loses track and goes Fox-bashing), namely that science reporting has taken a sharp decrease in quality lately as the major media outlets have done away with dedicated science writers: http://tinyurl.com/3llqgay Recent stories on life in CI meteorites, natural atomic bomb blasts on Mars, and now this story are symptoms of a bigger problem, namely the lack of well-informed treatment of science issues by the major media outlets. Science stories are increasingly handled by writers who are looking for high-impact, wow-factor news items as opposed to lower-key but better-informed articles by science journalism professionals. I can say from my own experience that it is rather frustrating to attend conferences where I see all manner of well thought-out, interesting research presented, and then to turn around and see little more than sensationalistic crap wind up front and center in the major media. That's not good for anyone - the really interesting stuff never reaches a wider audience, and the public winds up thinking that scientists waste their time and tax dollars on embarrassing nonsense like the examples I stated above. I think that's the effect we're seeing in this NYT article at least in part, and while it is unfortunate it doesn't surprise me much. The new mineral was discovered within the meteorite officially designated Yamato 691 enstatite chondrite. The meteorite was discovered the same year as other landmark meteorites Allende and Murchison and the return of the first Apollo lunar samples. The study of meteorites helps define our understanding of the formation and history of the solar system. The meteorite likely may have originated from an asteroid orbiting between Mars and Jupiter. Wassonite is among the tiniest, yet most important, minerals identified in the 4.5-billion-year-old sample. The research team, headed by NASA space scientist Keiko Nakamura-Messenger, added the mineral to the list of 4,500 officially approved by the International Mineralogical Association. Wassonite is a mineral formed from only two elements, sulfur and titanium, yet it possesses a unique crystal structure that has not been previously observed in nature, said Nakamura-Messenger. In 1969, members of the Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition discovered nine meteorites on the blue ice field of the Yamato Mountains in Antarctica. This was the first significant recovery of Antarctic meteorites and represented samples of several different types. As a result, the United States and Japan conducted systematic follow-up searches for meteorites in Antarctica that recovered more than 40,000 specimens, including extremely rare Martian and lunar meteorites. Researchers found Wassonite surrounded by additional unknown minerals that are being investigated. The mineral is less than one-hundredth the width of a human hair or 50x450 nanometers. It would have been impossible to discover without NASA's transmission electron microscope, which is capable of isolating the Wassonite grains and determining their chemical composition and atomic structure. More secrets of the universe can be revealed from these specimens using 21st century nano-technology, said Nakamura-Messenger. The new mineral's name was approved by the International Mineralogical Association. It honors John T. Wasson, professor at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Wasson is known for his achievements across a broad swath of meteorite and impact research, including the use of neutron activation data to classify meteorites and to formulate models for the chemical makeup of bulk chondrites. Meteorites, and the minerals within them, are windows to the formation of our solar system, said Lindsay Keller, space scientist at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston. Keller is the co-discoverer and principal investigator of the microscope used to analyze the Wassonite crystals. Through these kinds of studies we can learn about the conditions that existed and the processes that were occurring then. Johnson's advanced work in nanotechnology is part of the center's Astromaterial Research and Exploration Science Directorate. It is currently the location for celestial materials that would be returned to Earth from spacecraft. The facility collaborates with industry, academic and international organizations. The beauty of this research is that it really demonstrates how the Johnson Space Center has become a pre-eminent leader in the field of nanoscale analysis, said Simon Clemett, a space scientist at Johnson and co-discoverer of the new mineral. In the words of the great English poet William Blake, we are now able 'to see the world in a grain of sand'. Collaborators in the discovery of the new mineral include Clemett, Keller and Zia Rahman in the Astromaterials Research and Exploration Science Directorate at Johnson; Alan Rubin from UCLA; Byeon-Gak Choi from Seoul National University, South Korea;

The oblong little rock from outer space lighted up the late afternoon sky across Washington on Jan. 18, 2010, and rocketed into a doctors' office in Lorton. Moving at a leisurely 200 mph, it crashed into examination room No. 2 in the Williamsburg Square Family Practice, even though it did not have an appointment. The startled (but unhurt) doctors, Marc Gallini and Frank Ciampi, donated it to the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, which houses the world's largest collection of meteorites. But then their landlords said not so fast: The 2-by-3-inch visitor from the asteroid belt was estimated to be worth at least $50,000 on the earth-bound meteorite market, in part because of its dramatic and well-documented entrance. Thousands of people saw its fireball descent (the museum has a photograph of the vapor trail), and radar sweeps documented its path across the region. The landlords demanded its return. Gallini said of their behavior: It isn't nice. Legal wrangling ensued. We are delighted, a year later, that there is a happy ending. The landlords eventually dropped their claims, the Smithsonian gave the doctors $10,000 for the Lorton meteorite (its formal name) in early February, and the physicians donated the check to the charity Doctors Without Borders last week. Linda Welzenbach, the meteorite collection manager at the Smithsonian, says it will soon be on public display, though no date has been set. We are very happy that it's staying at the Smithsonian, Gallini says. We felt that where it's belonged since the beginning. Deniz Mutlu, a member of the family that owns the building, said his only issue with events was that we got portrayed as the bad guys. All we wanted to do was donate it to a different institution (Phillips Exeter Academy, in New Hampshire), where my wife attended school, he said. The doctors wanted to litigate. They had pro bono counsel. We just let it go. The meteorite, which existed for about 4.5 billion years floating around between Mars and Jupiter, now spends its time in a little plastic box deep in the Mason-Clarke Meteorite Vault in the Smithsonian. It has thousands of other little asteroid friends, including three from Mars, to keep it company. Holding the Lorton meteorite with blue latex gloves, Welzenbach smiled. It's going to stay here where everyone can see it. CURIOUS? Tell us what past Washington Post story or person in the news you want us to update. E-mail tre...@washpost.com or call 202.334.4208. Us gun and military collectors had to do the same a while back after ebay decided to stop letting you sell anything assault rifle related, including anything banned in Kalifornia but not banned anywhere else, ammo of any kind, bayonets of assault-rifle nature, and then they stopped the sale of inert ordnance. Greg S. http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/2011-03/16/nasa-fireball-network US space agency Nasa is planning to cover the United States with cameras facing upward to track meteorites as they enter the atmosphere. The scheme, which has been named the All-sky Fireball Network will allow researchers to triangulate observations of space rocks to try and figure out where they're going to land, making them easier to recover. It's entirely automated -- computers scan the images received to try and work out which objects are meteors, and then send any positive results to Nasa, which puts them on the web. The network currently consists of just three cameras -- in the US states of Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee. Nasa's William Cooke, head of the agency's Meteoroid Environment Office, hopes to expand that to 15 cameras across the eastern half of the US, and is talking to schools, planetariums and science centres to host them. If someone calls me and asks 'What was that?' I'll be able to tell them, he told Singularity Hub. Other meteorite monitoring systems exist, particularly over the less-populated western half of the US, but the Fireball Network is the first that's completely automated, using optical recognition technology to identify the flaming signature of a meteorite burning up in the atmosphere (or the occasional spider). Eventually, it's hoped that the various meteor-monitoring networks could link up to cover the whole country. It's not a warning system -- once a meteor is detected it'll likely be too late to alert any nearby residents. But data from the Fireball Network will be used to improve the shielding used on spacecraft, as well as being kept as a record of every large meteoroid to burn up over the US. It'll also help researchers track more of them down. One of Cooke's assistants told Nasa's Science News: Most meteorites fall in the ocean, lakes, forests, farmer's fields, or the Antarctic…and the majority of those meteorites will never be found. But our system will help us track down more of them. __ Visit the Archives at http://www.meteoritecentral.com/mailing-list-archives.html Meteorite-list mailing list Meteorite-list@meteoritecentral.com http://six.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list __ Visit the Archives at http://www.meteoritecentral.com/mailing-list-archives.html Meteorite-list mailing list Meteorite-list@meteoritecentral.com http://six.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list

On July 3rd, 1992, a 20-foot rogue wave appeared out of nowhere (calm weather) and washed ashore on Daytona Beach, damaging many vehicles parked along the beach and causing scores of minor injuries - thankfully there were no fatalities. This event was big news down here at the time, but has since faded into obscurity. I did some digging on the event, to satisfy my own curiosity and I came across an account that includes a possible meteorite fall. Here is a quote from an eyewitness who was a boater that was offshore at the time - ...the boater came forward with the information that, shortly before the time of the wave, he was in his boat about eight miles offshore. He watched as a distant object approached across the sky toward the ocean at a high rate of speed, and crossed the bow of his boat at an angle with a whoosh (his word). Shortly after, a giant swell made his 41-foot sailboat handle like a large surfboard. Various news sources state that the meteorite, as it is now being called, was anywhere from a meter to 10 feet across. The boater who wished to remain anonymous, gave the professors enough information so that they are hoping that the Navy will retrieve the object, which is presumed to be lying in about 70 feet of water off the Daytona Beach coastline, with plenty of coordinates for locating it. (source : http://www.science-frontiers.com/sf084/sf084g12.htm ) Does anyone remember this meteorite event? And, did anyone look for the object? I know 70-feet of water is not exactly prime meteorite-hunting territory, but one has to wonder what happened, in light of the eyewitness account. Most often in the spotlight are the jaw-dropping closeups of Apollo landing sites by the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera (LROC). It can resolve the surface at 2 feet (0.5 m) per pixel — good enough to reveal even the paths worn in the lunar soil by the astronauts' boots. A new 24,000-pixel-square mosaic from NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter shows the Moon's nearside as never before. Click here for a larger (but not full-size!) version; a labeled version is here. NASA / GSFC / Arizona State Univ.The work of LROC's wide-angle camera, which provides surface context for those incredible narrow-angle shots, has largely gone unheralded … until now. This past week the team released a new mosaic of the Moon's near side taken entirely with wide-angle frames. Acquired during a two-week period in December, the 1,300 black-and-white frames create a full-disk mosaic measuring 24,000 pixels across. Gulp! As the Moon rotated under LRO's orbit, explains LROC team leader Mark Robinson (Arizona State University), the ground track progressed from east to west (right to left in this mosaic). The image run was timed to keep the Sun high up in the lunar sky but not straight overhead (its altitude varied from 69° to 82°). This created enough shadowing to define crater rims and other topography crisply, unlike the shadow-free view that we see during a full Moon. The combined image shows slight banding where the 1,024-pixel-wide swaths were stitched together. A close-up of Rupes Recta (usually called the Straight Wall) from the new LROC mosaic of the lunar nearside. Located near the eastern edge of Mare Nubium, this steep-faced scarp is about 70 miles (114 km) long. I agree. I keep all the cards you guys send me when I purchase. I have been thinking about doing my own card but it really is meaning less not being an IMCA member or the original finder. Maybe make an entry on the back of the original card as to whom you received it from and forward it when you sell it. Stuart McD Mike Bandli fuzzf...@comcast.net wrote: Hello Rob, Great question. You should always provide your own card (even if the weight changes). As pieces continue to be sectioned down or change hands, provenance is more important than ever. With the influx of new collectors, we all need to set higher standards so that this precious information gets passed down. Let me bring all of you up to speed on this. Five years ago, I partnered with around 10 or so friends and they combined some money, and I offered up some time and we started hunting for meteorites together. We choose to go to a certain location in Kansas where pallasites had been found in the past. We chose this location after I had my success locating some pallasite meteorites at the Brenham strewnfield. We got land leases to hunt, without any promise of any big money, no talk of Millions, or thousands or even hundreds of dollars to anyone. We just started hunting and we started finding meteorites. Some of my friends, at least 8 of us in the group, were very connected meteorite dealers and we decided to try to sell some of our finds, we tried and we tried and we tried, and we sold one meteorite. We contacted virtually all the institutions with notable meteorite collections and none of them wanted to either buy or to trade for any of our specimens. The one sale was made, and the land owner from where this meteorite came from got his contracted percentage royalty, and he was VERY pleased. It was truly money from heaven for him. The meteorites from this particular location have the reputation of being the worst rusting meteorites known to man. Far worse than Campo, Nantan, Brenham or any other ruster one can think of. So we could understand why no one wanted to buy any more of this meteorite. It was just too big of a risk for people to take. As we kept finding more and more meteorites, we were challenged with the supply and demand issue. Much supply, virtually no demand. Not a good outlook. Then one of the dealers in the group reminded us of the high quality gemstones that had been faceted from the peridot in this meteorite. So we took the specimen in the worst condition out of our inventory and practiced trying to free up some of the olivine that was in it, and sure enough, there were some amazing gemstones produced. A year and a half ago, we went to all the land owners where we had found meteorites and told them that if we would liquidate all the meteorites we found, we probably would only get $0.10 or $0.15 per gram. But we felt that as gemstones, we could make more money for everyone. We decided to incorporate our partnership as Palladot Inc, a Kansas corporation, that focused on selling meteorites, mostly in gemstone format. I am the President, and Jason Phillips is our C.E.O.. We hired Charles Ellias, who is a graduate gemologist with 25 years of experience in the color gemstone market, to manage our operations, including overseeing the faceting, grading and pricing and marketing of the gemstones. Our original contract only promised the landowners that they would earn their royalty on the wholesale sale of the meteorites. We told all the land owners we wanted to pursue the gemstone market as there was very little demand in the meteorite world for the specimens as meteorites. It was one of the landowners that actually suggested pooling all of the royalties together, so we wouldn't have to melt down every meteorite, and this way all the landowners could still share proportionately by their contribution in the profits. It was at that point, that in the spirit of full discloser, we explained how the gemstone market gave us the best up-side potential for earnings. If a market could be built for these most amazing and rare gemstones with a fascinating story, then we would have the supply to fill the demand created. And yes, IF there would be millions of dollars of demand created, we would have millions of dollars of gems. All of the land owners, except for one, agreed to pool their royalty interest together and join us in the gem market. The one landowner that didn't want to go to the gem business with us, was happy to take his portion in kind and we gave him his meteorites. All the others signed a new agreement that pooled their royalties together. One year ago this month, we started selling Palldot Pallasitic Peridot gemstones at the

Why not just slice them up, flood the market with large slices to drive the price down, that way we can ALL afford a huge slice, and give them their 25%?? If there are that many stones floating around would that not be an option?? That way people that have always wanted a nice big slice could afford one. If the money's not there, it seems to me like that would be the quickest and easiest means of settling the dispute. Unless there's some reason for Steve to hold on to it all even though he can't sell it at present...that would seem to be the easiest solution. There wasn't a body in that dune was there??? wahlpe...@aol.com wrote: Hi All, Last week while exploring a new area in Nevada I made a strange discovery. I was in an area that was composed of numerous small sand dunes and blowouts almost like a small dry lake bed. I walked along the edge of a small sand dune started to find small pieces of a ceramic material. The material was sand blasted and appeared to be very old. Still having no idea what the material could be I soon found out. 75' from my location I could see what looked like a leg. Two years prior to this find while I was scouting for new areas I made a similar discovery. It was a human leg with a shoe attached and a motorcycle lying on the edge of the road with a women standing next to a unconscious man. You can't imagine the thought that was going through my mind at this time. Holy crap, miles from anywhere, no phone service, an unconscious man lying on the shoulder of the road with his leg lying 20' away. My main thought was to check out the patient and notify the local authorities. The man was in critical condition but still breathing . The leg was a prosthetic limb that had fallen off during the accident. To make a long story short , a large elk ran in front of the motorcyclist and caused them to crash. 1 1/2 hours later he was flown to a hospital in California. Now back to my new find . It was an old prosthetic leg that was lying next to a small sand dune . The leg had eroded out of the dune. As i started to get the camera out to take a photograph Brix started to investigate the object. I could just see Brix running off with the leg! The leg appeared to be very old. I just wonder what is next, hopefully no more legs! I hope to have a few picture up soon of my latest discovery. Re: [meteorite-list] AD: Meteorites Magazines
I paid back at the first of November and for the $39.95 deal/package and have not seen anything yet. I got an email saying they were shipping the goodies but I have yet to see them either. That was several weeks ago. I am starting to get worried. Ed Deckert edeck...@triad.rr.com wrote: OK, now I'm totally confused. Quote from email below regarding MHC magazine: Magazine Update: We're printing some extra back issues and will have them at the Tucson Show for those interested. If you want July, Sept, or the Nov issue please let me know ASAP! Back issues will be on sale for *$10* each from now until the Tucson Show is over. Regular price is $20!) I subscribed and so far I have only received the July issue via snail mail. AFAIK the Sept and Nov issues never materialized (delays, etc.) Now, back issues of the Sept and November issues are being offered for sale at Tucson by having extra copies printed? And January's issue is coming fast? Has anyone who subscribed to MHC Magazine gotten any other issue via snail mail beyond the premier July issue? My inquiring mind wants to know.
