I'd prefer something domestic. How about an amber ale made with
Holbrook? Better yet, if someone is really serious about brewing a batch
for the next Tucson Show, I might be willing to donate a small piece of
Beer Bottle Pass as an ingredient.

And make it cold...very cold.

Dear Fellow Meteorite Beer Drinkers,
I would volunteer a few Nantans which I have in abundance carefully
attached to stiring sticks to roil the solution during primary brewing stage
and since the quanity of Nickel will be minimal it should be safe to drink.
We could name it Nantans Revenge the slight brown color is naturally RUST.

Toxicity above 0.2 g in a day (expect shortness of breath, diarrea,
polka dot skin rashes besides getting buzzed from the beer and probably an
insignificant tad of neural effects), and higher long term incidence of
respiratory cancers, and at 15 grams or so will likely cause you heart
failure on the spot. That of course, depends on how well you brew it as
plenty of kids have eaten nickel clad coins (US 10c, 25c, 50c, etc.), and
lived, or straight nickel alloy coins. For 15 g you would need a minimum of
200 grams or so of your garden variety coarse octahedrite and more of course
if you got stoned meteorites.

In case you wondered, nickel uptaken accumulates in the body. 2% of the
amount you eat/drink and 10% of the amount you snort will stick around
accumulating with a biological half life activity in you of 3.5 years. So
drinking it is clearly the safer bet.

Brewers can practice on tailings or leached slurries from old nickel ore
mining operations to approximate the effects before trying the good stuff,
if they have any sanity left.

I can almost picture the ebay ad that might have resulted - Canyon Diablo

 Hi Marc and all,

Brewers beware as iron meteorites do contain nickel which is toxic. I
don't know how much it would take to cause heath problems but probably
 not a good idea to
brew irons at this time. I've seen some Zagami (glass in that stony

I make beer on demand at a localVine Park Brewery. Any formula and taste
of any beer made in the world. Here is how it works. These guys have massive
formulas books by brand.type,etc. You go in, sellect your brew choice. Then
they guide you through the the whole process under very sanitary conditions.
It takes about three hours to kettle brew your batch. Then you run the brew
through a heat exchanger to cool it down befoe adding the yeast. Then it is
put away in the croisining room for two weeks - you agree to return on a
specific date and they filter your batch and you fill your own in 22 oz.
bottles Makes 60 to 72 bottles( depends on how much you sample while
bottleing.) You then apply your lable which you are responsible for
designing and they computer print the pressure senseitive lable. Cost about
$130 to $160 a batch. I make beer for our paleontology field trips every
August and everybody is pleased. Getting it to Tucson is the next
consideration.

nut in it (as in nuts and bolts - type nut, not a peanut or cashew or
something). He swears that it gives it a special tang and compares it
to cooking food in an iron skillet. I've never had the stuff and can't

Canyon Diablo Stout... hmm Sikote Alin Pale Ale This might

I ate recently some fragments of my new diogenite that dropped on my bench

I will recommand to former meteorite eaters to focus on achondrites, the
ones where there is less Ni.

Shall I propose to our local brewery ( Micro Basserie de Chamonix, Canadian
owner, just a good place to drink.) to make a try with some Dio powder from
a future sawing ?

Best regards.

some iron filings from Canyon Diablo or the like to the soil of our hops

the hops plant.

Never mind Beer, what about the famous drink 'Iron brew', (A British

Terrestrial iron for meteoritic! (Might even improve the dreadful

On a similar note:

The other day I was removing some saw marks from an Allende, and the
dust was naturally going all over the place, but some went into my
mouth, and I was surprised that it actually tasted 'salty!' anyone think
of a reason for this?

Yes it isif it's someone who likes food with flavo(u)r, and the UK is on the itinerary. ;-)

Actually, the Wold Cottage beer/label was just one small aspect of a bigger story -- which started in Edinburgh, where Rob and Irene met my train and began showing me several days of above-and-beyond the-call hospitality in their tiny, beautiful town of Milton of Balgonie. Rob's meteorite collection is literally breathtaking, and he has done a masterful job of insulating an entire room with temperature/humidity control (that cold, damp Scottish climate is no friend to Brenham), and has displayed the collection beautifully. We motored down to Wold Cottage (on the wrong side of the road) and stayed the night there, the proprietors have done a wonderful job of restoring the Cottage to its former glory. The main attraction of course, was out in the field -- we wandered out to the monument, snapped pictures, and generally daydreamed about the meteoritic event that happened at that exact spot 200+ years ago. The next day we headed down to Olde London Towne, where we had a lengthy tour behind the scenes at the Natural History Museum, graciously provided by Dr's. Babs Potter, Caroline Smith and Robert Hutchison. Monica Grady had an unfortunate dental emergency so we were disappointed not to meet with her, but then again, Dr. Hutchison comes into the office somewhat more rarely these days (and has achieved a sort of rock-star status amongst meteorite aficionados) so meeting him was a thrill. I was then dragged kicking and screaming across the Heathrow tarmac, and reluctantly headed home -- back to the land of baseball, cold beer and pudding with no pig blood in it. (Not to mention those trusty jalapenos)

Seriously, a hearty thank you to Rob, Irene, Derek and Katrina Gray (Wold), and the brass at the Museum for an awesome week of meteoric fun.

Hi Mark and all.
Last week, Gregory Wilson, my wife Irene and I stopped off at the Wold Cottage in Yorkshire, England, during the drive from Fernlea to London. The meteorite beer wasn't quite ready for sampling, but the owner gave us a few souvenir labels to keep http://fernlea.tripod.com/woldbottlelabel.jpg

Cheers,
Rob.
