so we would like to put apache mirror on that server also (apache has mirror

is that possible?
server IP is 147.91.8.38 and it is synced from mirror.etf.bg.ac.yu
content is accessible trough http only for now but it will be accessible
trough ftp and rsync in next few days
Could you please submit your new mirror using the instructions here:

That way I won't miss it the next time I do updates.

Just as a general note, the main Apache site gets hit virtually every

download the same file thousands of times. I'm fairly sure that 99% of
cases are simply very broken software with very stupid users. They do
not generally look like mirror attempts or deliberate DoS attacks.

There isn't much that can be done about it. Apache httpd is relatively

This is probably caused by an symlink-permissions issue. You need to

Re: New mirror apache.officepark.ru

2004-10-15 Thread Denis

Dear Erik et all,

I have added FTP as well:

ftp://apache.officepark.ru

You may add it to the list of mirrors for Russia.

For anyone intended to become a mirror and willing to estimate the
resources needed, you may probably consider the following data.  The data
are for Russia, but probably if you take into account the number of Internet
users in your country vs. Russia and number of Apache mirrors for your country
vs. Russia, you may come up with some rough figure.

Average downloads from http://apache.officepark.ru: 1 GB a
day
% of downloads from inside of Russia: 99.94%
Number of Apache mirrors in Russia: 3
Number of Internet users in Russia: 14M

Thanks,
Denis

You were using dozens of rysnc connections, thereby preventing other
mirrors from accessing our server. So you are now banned from connecting
by rsync.

Other than that, the problem was that the bandwidth available to your
apache mirror was not sufficient.

Although we appreciate your contribution of a mirror, perhaps you could
better support apache in some other way:

The NH users probably won't have a problem. But when you get on the
mirror list and you get 10 or 15 cable modem buggers downloading the
latest release all at once your line's gonna sh*t the bed. :)

It's just not fast enough is all, no comment on the your quality or

Hmm, the problem is that
http://www.apache.org/dist/ant/ant-current-bin.zip is a valid resource
whereas http://apache.tagcon.net:90/ant/ant-current-bin.zip yields a
404 error. Since this is a mirror it should be identical.

For example, we're sending users via pages like
http://httpd.apache.org/download.cgi directly onto the mirrors and a
missing file (or replaced by one with a .lnk extension) will just
confuse them.

Win32 doesn't support symlinks (although recent nt versions support
"junctions"). So you'd need to replace the "l" option with the "L" option
in your rsync command in order to get rsync to copy file contents.

The ASF logo is a trademark and therefore can't be used on your own pages
without prior written permission from the ASF. Though, as said, you can

Just for clarity, the logo policy is here:

You are, in fact, allowed to use the asf_logo.gif, as long as you aren't

(Really, we should have a better set of public-use logos. The
asf_logo.gif is not a great one for that purpose.)

We very much prefer HTTP mirrors so there's no real need to set up FTP
access, especially for the US mirrors (we already have a bunch of US
FTP mirrors).

We require at least one update per day, preferably between 2 and 4
times a day. Have a look at

Looks like your mirror is updating fine. If you have any problems or
questions don't hesitate to post to this list, there's usually someone

linking that dir to FTP too at a later stage
We very much prefer HTTP mirrors so there's no real need to set up FTP

FTP mirrors).

	• Country where the mirror is located – United States
	• Contact email address – [EMAIL PROTECTED]

updates
We require at least one update per day, preferably between 2 and 4
times a day. Have a look at

rsync examples.

	• Rsync repository used - rsync.apache.org

Looks good and I have added your mirror to our list.
will need a bit of help with getting the crontab running to get the

Learn how to use managed lists. E.g. in this one, there

So just unsubscribe yourself, instead of complaining.

My mirroring script starts at 23:00 BUT when it arrives to apache it's 3

I understood; since yesterday (Jul, 20) the URLs:

  http://apache.fis.uniroma2.it/

  ftp://cis.uniroma2.it/unix/packages/APACHE

point to the dist of the apache projects, "rsynced" from:
www.apache.org::apache-dist and the directory configured as recommended

No difference at all other than protocol. In fact, I really don't care
too much about FTP mirrors. We add them to our list, but we highly prefer
HTTP.

Anyway, I changed the scripts to use www.apache.org::apache-dist as told

There is really almost nothing of interest on www.apache.org. The
interesting stuff is contained on the project websites (httpd.apache.org,
jakarta.apache.org, etc). Unfortunately, we do not have a good
infrastructure in place to allow the mirroring of those sites.

But since almost all our bandwidth usage comes from downloads, providing
mirrors of apache-dist is a great way to help Apache.

Hmmm... I appreciate your contribution, but an Apache mirror could use a
substantial portion of that 1Mbps. Considering that we already have many
reliable US mirrors, I am very reluctant to add one that may be pushing
its bandwidth allocation. (Our preference is certainly for a few reliable

So I think we'll pass on this mirror. But thanks again.
