Supported uvideo(4) device not recognized: Logitech QuickCam E 3500 Plus
man 4 uvideo says that Logitech QuickCam E 3500 Plus is supported. My OpenBSD 4.4 release boxes do not recognize the device at all (while recognized as uaudio by OpenBSD 4.0, e. g.). usbdevs(8) says: getdevicedesc: ioctl: Input/output error getstring: ioctl: Input/output error (full output below). With 4.4 there is no output in /var/log/messages. Problem seems to be OpenBSD 4.4 specific (see below for other versions). I have connected the camera to at least 3 different OpenBSD 4.4 boxes and have experimented with 3 different USB PCI cards in conjunction with 2 of those boxes (output of one 4.4 box below). I have re-checked the behaviour with a 2nd camera of the same type (not all combinations mentioned, though). In addition, a USB stick connected to the same USB card (after the camera but while the camera was still plugged in) did not even show up in usbdevs(8) output. To produce some dmesg-style output I have connected the camera to several non-4.4 OpenBSD boxes, including 3.x, 4.0 and 4.3. All of the non-4.4 boxes have shown somewhat expected behaviour (output of a 4.0 box below). Questions: 1. I have seen that there were many uvideo(4) changes between 4.4 and 4.5. Do they fix the problem? 2. Am I missing anything obvious? Any way to get this up and running without using -current? Output of a 4.0 box first because with 4.4 there is only usbdevs(8) but nothing in /var/log/messages. 4.0 === # uname -a OpenBSD host.domain 4.0 GENERIC#1107 i386 # tail /var/log/messages Jan 28 18:16:54 test /bsd: uaudio0 at uhub2 port 1 configuration 1 interface 2: Logitech product 0x09a4, rev 2.00/0.06, addr 2 Jan 28 18:16:55 test /bsd: uaudio0: audio rev 1.00, 2 mixer controls Jan 28 18:16:55 test /bsd: audio0 at uaudio0 # usbdevs -dv -f /dev/usb1 Controller /dev/usb2: addr 1: high speed, self powered, config 1, EHCI root hub(0x), VIA(0x1106), rev 1.00 uhub2 port 1 addr 2: high speed, power 500 mA, config 1, product 0x09a4(0x09a4), Logitech(0x046d), rev 0.06 uaudio0 port 2 powered port 3 powered port 4 powered 4.4 === # uname -a OpenBSD host.domain 4.4 GENERIC#1021 i386 # tail /var/log/messages [no messages here when (dis)connecting the device] # usbdevs -dv -f /dev/usb0 Controller /dev/usb0: addr 1: high speed, self powered, config 1, EHCI root hub(0x), NEC(0x1033), rev 1.00 uhub0 port 1 powered port 2 powered port 3 powered getdevicedesc: ioctl: Input/output error getstring: ioctl: Input/output error port 4 addr 2: high speed, self powered, unconfigured, QuickCam E 3500 Plus(0x09a4), Logitech(0x046d), rev 0.06 port 5 powered -- Pt! Re: relayd.conf use $ext_if or interface name?
Description of your setup was not very detailed. Assuming that a) you have one box at home, b) you want to run a webserver on it, c) have no redirection possibility on the other side of your providers port-80-filter, d) you are using pf. If you do not want to change your httpd setup to port 8080 you might want to try something like this in your /etc/pf.conf: rdr on $ext_if proto tcp from any to ($ext_if) port 8080 - \ ($ext_if) port 80 See http://www.openbsd.org/faq/pf/rdr.html You might want to read the section labelled Redirection and Packet Filtering to avoid filtering issues. My box is on verizon's fios, and the dhcp address can change ever hour. They also block incoming 80. I am looking at having httpd listen on 8080 or using relayd, so was just poking around. Thanks. -- Pt! Schon vom neuen GMX MultiMessenger gehvrt? Der kann`s mit allen: http://www.gmx.net/de/go/multimessenger01
Re: Ralink RT2860 PCI cards?
Longshine LCS-8031N Note: Manufacturers PDF says Complies with PCI 2.3 but the information on the products packaging is not consistent (depending on the language it is PCI 2.2 or 2.3). I think it is a PCI 2.3 device. So you might want to make sure your mainboard actually supports PCI 3,3V. I am looking for a Ralink RT2860 PCI (not mini pci) card. Any recommendations? Nobody puts the chipset in their ads. -- Pt! Schon vom neuen GMX MultiMessenger gehvrt? Der kann`s mit allen: http://www.gmx.net/de/go/multimessenger01
Re: KDE installation problem
As Hannah said you need to run X -configure before adjusting the resulting file (and before moving it to the location mentioned). You might want to run find / -name X -exec ls -l {} \; 2 /dev/null to find out which man page to look for (unfortunately, it is not just man X). X related man pages are somewhat overwhelming, though. If you want to save some time or prefer printed information then you might want to grab a copy of X POWER TOOLS. Original-Nachricht - xorg.conf is not created at that time, probably a bit later on in the graphical process. I used find command but it does'nt find anything. /etc/X11/xorg.conf. If it's not present, the X server autoconfigures, but sometimes the settings derived by autoconfiguration probably won't fit. You can generate a template xorg.conf by running X -configure (probably as root). That should terminate soon and leave a file (a message on the text console should tell you where the file is, usually in $HOME). Move that file to /etc/X11/xorg.conf and edit it to suit your needs. Test it using startx rather than xdm. -- Jetzt 1 Monat kostenlos! GMX FreeDSL - Telefonanschluss + DSL f|r nur 17,95 Euro/mtl.!* http://dsl.gmx.de/?ac=OM.AD.PD003K11308T4569a
umsm: Option GlobeTrotter HSDPA ICON225 not working (was: usb hsdpa modem not working)
Same situation here. This seems not to work, at least not with this version of the modem (see below, I tried it on several 4.4 release boxes). Exactly the same behaviour as described by the OP. The third serial port is just missing so I could not set up ppp (see man 4 umsm for details on 3rd serial port). BTW, the name of the supported device given in man 4 umsm (Device: Option GlobeTrotter HSDPA ICON225 Bus: USB) might be wrong. I could not verify that Option use names like GlobeTrotter or GlobeSurfer for this item themselves. Option seem to call this device just iCON 225. GlobeTrotter and GlobeSurfer might be names of different products (while used for iCON 225 by some resellers). In Germany, this item seems to be available branded as web'n'walk Stick from T-Mobile. I think this is the same as the iCON 225 (see text taken from bottom label below - and it looks the same). You might want to make sure it actually works with your setup before purchasing it. Medion Akoya E1212
Today Aldi in Germany started selling the Medion Akoya E1212 (a 10 netbook which is said to be quite the same as some MSI Wind). I bought one but decided to give it back due to the keyboard layout. So the following data is not from dmesg but from tinkering with the pre-installed Windows XP Home. NIC: RTL8102E (might be supported by re(4) as of OpenBSD 4.4) Wireless NIC: Ralink 2860 (might be supported as ral(4)) Graphics: Intel 945 Express Chipset Some notes regarding the keyboard (German layout!): 1) The bottom-left key is Fn but not Ctrl. 2) Extra wide Right-Shift means that , and . and - are less wide than usual and really not perfect for 10-finger-typists (if much of your time is on the command line you might want to consider that). 3) If your fingers are not too big you might well be able to type fast with 10 fingers, except for some smaller keys. BTW, the USB connectors are very, very tight. -- Pt! Schon vom neuen GMX MultiMessenger gehvrt? Der kann`s mit allen: http://www.gmx.net/de/go/multimessenger01
