And the same card which I gave a 2 to came up as failed, and then went to

[mnemosyne-proj-users] Gone into negative scheduled!?

2017-10-12 Thread chris . b . shanks
I got a strange error while reviewing my cards, but kept going (it didn't
stop anything). When I got to the end of my cards, I had zero scheduled
and 13 failed (in "not memorized"). When attempting to do the failed
cards, it showed me one again that I'd already seen, I did it, and my
scheduled repetitions went to -1 (negative 1). The rest of my cards went
fine. This has me a little paranoid; does it mean there is something very
wrong with my deck?

(That is my most important concern, but as a side note, will Fast Format

chemistry and mathematics cards, but I can't get it to work, and even if I
try and install an old version of Mnemosyne I get strange errors and can't
even get it to run.)

Re: [mnemosyne-proj-users] Untagged not going away!

2016-06-29 Thread chris . b . shanks
Yes, I understand. What I'm trying to say is they *are* all tagged with
tags I have created and yet are showing up in both their appropriate tag
sections *as well as* the untagged section.

See in the image, for example, you can see the "Calculus - TTC 2 Questions"
has 279 cards. All have subtags, numerically in sets from 02 to 29. This
includes them all. Yet they 121 still remain *also* in the "untagged"
category. The cards I tagged on their creation with subtags (from 14 - 29)
did not go into "untagged." The 121 other cards I had created without
tags. So I created them to match the organization system. But when I
created subcategories 02-13, "untagged" remained even though all cards had
been given a tag in my scheme.

[mnemosyne-proj-users] Re: Rate of Adding Cards and Future Workload

2016-06-28 Thread chris . b . shanks
Make sure to tag them really well while you're creating them if you are
adding a lot. In that case, if it gets overwhelming (like when I use it
for school), it is really easy to decide which to discard/ignore as bunches
when they're tagged. Else it is a nightmare to work through thousands of
untagged cards trying to decide what to keep and discard at the end of the
school year, say. I even use subtags within a category to help this work.

[mnemosyne-proj-users] Re: Multiple Deletions using Cloze Deletion tool

Keep in mind you need to have a reason for having multiple cloze parts in
one instance of a card. Most often the best learning comes from keeping
the information learned as granular as possible, but if you have a reason,
it works well.

[mnemosyne-proj-users] Re: Multiple Deletions using Cloze Deletion tool

2016-06-28 Thread chris . b . shanks
Woah. I'm Chris also and I was just about to make this same last
suggestion! It works well, I do this all the time if I need one like you
suggest. It also works along with other parts of the card being cloze
deletion separately, which the front-to-back option wouldn't. Sometimes
I'll use it for lists, or put prepositions in as a hint, too, i.e., The
gnome went from [A to B through C:... to ... through ...], or something of
the like. When you get used to using the system you come up with a lot of
quick and easy workarounds for just about anything you need. Keep in mind
you can even put images in the cloze deletion brackets or hints and that
allows you to do some other creative things.

[mnemosyne-proj-users] Untagged not going away!

2016-06-28 Thread chris . b . shanks
Good evening.

I'm having a problem with a few hundred cards staying in category
"untagged" as a subcategory when they are tagged (as well as subtagged to
the same level of the hierarchy). Not a terrible problem, but makes the
database look a little dirty while I'm trying to manage it. I did find a
solution for a similar issue that says the "compact database" command
should fix it, but it won't. All the other tags in the explorer let me
right click and give me the option to "remove tag", but the "untagged"
bunch don't let me right-click on them to remove it, like the others do.
 Any ideas?

   Thanks, Chris Shanks.

[mnemosyne-proj-users] Importing part of another deck

2016-03-01 Thread chris . b . shanks
Sorry for the question, I'm sure I've seen this explained before but I
can't find it in the old discussions for the life of me.

Is it in fact the case with the newest version, I can open a deck, activate
a particular set of cards (via "tags"), go to another deck, and import it,
and it will just import the activated cards (as "File format: Mnemosyne 2.x
*.db files") with their learning data into the deck I am working with?

I just don't want to try it and mess something up terribly without knowing!

Apologies again, thought this was already asked somewhere but couldn't find
it

[mnemosyne-proj-users] Re: Errors from USB

2016-02-03 Thread chris . b . shanks
I did import some cards off of an old deck on my desktop. I could just
avoid that in the future. Or would it be better for me to rename that
deck, stick it in the same "mnemosyne" folder as the "default" deck on my
USB key, and only import from there? Could that avoid the problem in the
future?

[mnemosyne-proj-users] Errors from USB

2016-02-02 Thread chris . b . shanks
I'm having a couple problems running off USB recently, which I never had
before. Last time I deleted the config file and it started up fine, this
time I have a different error message. I'm running the latest version, and
this error is attached as an image. There is also another window saying
"follow the USB instructions on the website," which I have always followed
and not had problems before. I will try and delete the config file again,
but am wondering why this might be happening? When I upgraded, I moved by
media folder and default into the appropriate place, but may the program
still be trying to get them from the older folder? I have no idea.

Deleting the config file again did work; wondering if there's a more
long-term solution, though?

[mnemosyne-proj-users] Re: Suggestion for front-to-back & back-to-front

2016-02-01 Thread chris . b . shanks
Now I know it's setup that way, I'd say your hypothesis is probably correct. I
use front to back and back to front a lot, but with the amount of cards I've
entered I'm probably just seeing really similar cards and thinking they're
sister cards. I'm not too worried about it. Time and patience should overcome
all short-term inefficiencies in how I've designed my cards. :)

[mnemosyne-proj-users] Suggestion for front-to-back & back-to-front

2016-01-31 Thread chris . b . shanks
Good morning all,

Just a quick suggestion (not sure if anyone's made it, or something similar,
before). I regularly enter front-to-back and back-to-front cards in order to
learn things more thoroughly, with all sorts of different types of information.
But they often tend to come up either together or very close (i.e., on the
same day), so the "spaced repetition" effect is kind of nullified, and one gets
a "bonus" from me having seen the other very recently. This is more
deleterious for some of the types of cards I make than others, but it would be
nice to avoid it. Is there any way to set them up to phase away from each
other? Or to have one sister be learned a day or two later? I find myself
artificially grading one in the pair high and one low the first time I review
them in order to make this happen, but it doesn't seem proper. And of course I
could play around with creating them, then going in and tagging them all
separately, then only reviewing them on certain days; but that seems a lot more
work than its worth. Ideas?
