actually Ira, half sheets are 36x24 ans old posters are 27x40

I do see a problem with newer titles though, as they are right size

Have always wondered whether copies being sold of something like a
classic poster might just increase the value of the original rather
than decreasing it. Love to hear folks weigh in on this one.

You've got that right Ira.

Last week I had the temerity to point out to an eBay seller that the two

they are originals. They came from my grandfather's collection."

I'd like to thank the Academy...

[MOPO] FA: Join Us for a Premier Offering of Vintage Horror to Celebrate Halloween!

2021-10-21 Thread Smith, Grey - 1367
[November 4 - 7 Entertainment & Music Memorabilia Signature(r) Auction
#7245]

Posters represent our first encounter with the movies we're about to fall in
love with. From the beginning, poster art has been executed by the finest
artists and illustrators available. It's no small feat for an artist to capture
theme, tone, genre, subject, and the scope of an entire movie in a single,
curated image - while creating perfect likenesses of the stars featured in the
film (not to mention being mindful of the text to be added)! From the first
days of live performance, posters have foretold of anticipated wonders. Posters
also bring back vivid memories after the fact, just as cave paintings must have
reminded our earliest ancestors of past adventures.

In Heritage Auctions' - Monsters & Friends: Featuring the Kevin Burns
Collection,
you'll find a treasure trove of posters spanning all genres and priced at
opening bids accessible to most budgets, many starting at only $500! Since it's
the weird & eerie season of Halloween, let's look at some very rare posters in
this genre!

[The Wolf Man 1-Sheet Poster (Universal,
1941)]
The Wolf Man 1-Sheet Poster (Universal,
1941)

One of the great classic Universal monsters, portrayed by Lon Chaney Jr. in
iconic Jack Pierce makeup in a horror/romance story written by Curt Siodmak.
It's all here. A monster, torch-wielding villagers on the horizon, and the
lovely Evelyn Ankers in a dead faint!

[Flash Gordon's Trip to Mars 1-Sheet Poster (Universal,
1938)]

Flash Gordon's Trip to Mars
1-Sheet Poster (Universal,
1938)

See "Flash" fighting, emoting, rescuing, employing futuristic tech! Meanwhile,
the mysterious "Ming the Merciless" looks on, unimpressed. This colorful poster
echoes the illustrative style of serial and pulp magazines of the era. It's all
about exotica, adventure and lots of movement.

[Creature from the Black Lagoon 1-Sheet Poster (Universal,
1954)]
Creature from the Black Lagoon 1-Sheet Poster (Universal,
1954)

One of the most famous Universal monsters and an oddly romantic one. In this
poster, the Gill Man is front and center escorting his unwilling date, Julie
Adams, the one that got away. Linen-backed and ready for framing.

[The Man from Planet X 6-Sheet Poster (United Artists,
1951)]
The Man from Planet X 6-Sheet Poster (United Artists,
1951)

At 79" x 80," this poster will fill a wall spectacularly. Undoubtedly "The
Weirdest visitor the Earth has ever seen!" 1950s aliens menace Earth, and
apparently, our sweater-clad population. One of many titles in the invasion of
Sci-Fi movies ushered in by the 50s.

[The Day the Earth Stood Still 1-Sheet Poster (TCF,

The Day the Earth Stood Still
1-Sheet Poster (TCF,

With its post-WWII political subtext, Robert Wise's Sci-Fi classic would
influence genre filmmaking right up until today. "Gort" the robot would also
take his place among just a handful of internationally recognized bots. This
poster image is as familiar as the poster itself is hard to find.

Does this minimum $29 buyer's premium apply to both the weekly Sunday auctions

It was nice when Heritage was selling on ebay under the user id

I was just wondering if was going to change your bidding strategy for that

Myself, I am unlikely to pay $29 premium for a $15 poster (and let's be honest

I'm sure that HA will try and justify the increase by saying they are covering
costs on selling low priced items. However, anyone who bids on their auctions
should take the BP into account and they should also factor in shipping and
other costs. It doesn't take much to work out that a $29.00 buyer's premium is
a massive deterrent.

John,

covering costs is not the point here: Heritage is a CORPORATION. Just like any
other Corporation, their only goal is to make MORE MONEY, so they will raise
their fees whenever they feel they can get away with it.

Ebay is the exact same thing: First, they were constantly raising their final
value fees, then they started cashing in on the shipping, then they wanted a
portion of the sales tax, now they force their sellers to send their money to
ebay, and they are course charging for this 'service' as well.

I'm 57, so I will hopefully be gone before the corporations have completed
their takeover and succeeded in killing off every small business in the world.

Heritage is trash. I was cancelled by them after years of membership because
they kept screwing up my shipments and then sending me invoices for their
mistakes. At first, they did take responsibility but then I guess the bottom
line won out and just as Helmut so astutely puts it, they chose the money over
honouring their members and admitting their mistakes. This sneak reminds me of
one other sneak they pulled when they changed the shipping for International
folks and would only hold six paid invoices and then ship and didn't tell
anybody so, again, multiple shipping invoices started flooding my inbox. The
bidder needs to know these things because some buyers are grabbing lower cost
items specifically because they can budget it through combined shipping
arrangements.

I think this raise in premiums would have ended a good chunk of my bidding
there anyway. I hope all the staff that had to constantly deal as middle-people
and hear my repeated complaints are getting a raise but I highly doubt it.

Re: [MOPO] Increase in minimum buyer's premium at HA

2021-10-21 Thread Helmut Hamm
John,

covering costs is not the point here: Heritage is a CORPORATION.

Helmut

Re: [MOPO] CHANNING THOMSON

2021-10-21 Thread Helmut Hamm
Kirby,

so sorry to hear this. I met Channing frequently at the poster shows in the US.
I'm not on Facebook myself, but my wife was friends with him online, so I was
frequently updated on his whereabouts. She had noticed that he had stopped
posting several weeks ago. While we were never close, it always hurts to see
another one of the 'old guys' go.

Best wishes,

Helmut

Re: [MOPO] Increase in minimum buyer's premium at HA

2021-10-21 Thread Tommy Barr
Yes, I just noticed it when looking at some items on the site. It does seem
to have been sneaked in without any notice. Does seem excessive and will
certainly prevent me from bidding on lower value items.
