My guess is seller's remorse... or, they read MOPO too.

Millions of postal articles. Of course someone spends all their time looking
for rare posters.
  Maybe.

But the odds of this one being tossed right on top of the mentions of MOPO of
rarity, value, etc seem a bit slim.

Cynical perhaps, but then I have been in this game 40 years or so.

I'm probably unfairly suspicious in these circumstances, having previous
experience of winning something and the seller, not being happy with the low
result, sending an empty package but with his own subtle slit in the tape but
too small for the poster to pass through.

Still, that empty plastic sleeve really does seem a strong evidence that it
was once in there. I think I was similarly inclined, I think I'd find it more
convenient to have away with it in the sleeve.

it could probably be done with a t-shirt press, set at a very very
low temperature and slowly pressured. of course, you would need
intermediate media between the item press and know what you're doing etc.

Re: [MOPO] Ice Station Zebra lenticular poster repairable?

2013-09-24 Thread Tom Martin
my two cents You can use a Iron on low temp with a teflon cover
and with a slip sheet substrate.. the problem may be the threshold of
the temp when it could melt... as for the cracks and scratchs you
could uses a thin viscosity super glue called flash sold buy Guitar
re-bulders Stewart granger in ohio,,,Or contact GE plastics
(industrial plastic supply house.and get a solvent and glue and uses
a Hypodermic needle and apply under a microscopic loupe
If you mist the card board in bacck it could steam it straight.. but
care full... also if you press int with some weight like Rich offered
a press like a seal press used got drymounting on a low setting may
work from behind not on the lenticular side. then I would get a
plastic polish and buff out the scratches being carfaul to go with
the grain or the lenticular direction..you could make a jig so it was
oriented in proper form... looks salvageable... maybe Dario or Poster
mountain could do it.. I think it would be a cool project to save
Good Luck Roland

Yeah $40 plus the cost to try and fix it might not be too bad.

it could probably be done with a t-shirt press, set at a very very
low temperature and slowly pressured. of course, you would need
intermediate media between the item press and know what you're
doing etc.

Don't know exactly how thin on the ground these are, but Bruce
you've only ever sold one, which reached over 900.
If you can live with the cracks, perhaps worth working out some way
of heating it up to try and flatten it out, and hanging on to it
until a decent one turns up.
If the experiment goes badly wrong, not out of pocket too much.

Hey Guys,

I won this on eBay but didn't know how badly it was damaged (did not
check the recent mishap by the seller). Let me know if restorers can
fix it or its beyond repair.

Thanks,

Re: [MOPO] Ice Station Zebra lenticular poster repairable?

2013-09-24 Thread Kirby McDaniel
My three cents is that this is not fixable in any significant way. If one
doesn't buy these lenticulars
in really great condition, then one is just going to live with their faults.
Deadly is having any of the image
scraped off the back of these. I did not see this on ebay, but as a buyer of
CINERAMA material, I would
not have been interested in this, so far gone is it.
