Re: [MSX] Getting no mail! -- do you use Compact Flash?

2002-10-25 Thread Mari van den Broek
Hello,

I should get a compact flash adapter soon. After that, I am planning to
buy
a reliable CF-card (which is not nessecarily the lowest priced), I would
prefer SanDisk over Dane-Elec for example. But if the difference in price
is
high enough I would probably settle for the lesser quality one ^_^.

So let me know what you found.

I have ordered my first CF-card today, cannot say much about the quality
before I get it. The price is very low...

Example:
Distributer A: 256 MB, Simple-Tech, 160 Euro's
Distributer B: 256 MB, Dana-Elec, 125 Euro's
Distributer C: 256 MB, San-Disk, 126 Euro's
Distributer D: 256 MB, Kingston, 126 Euro's

check for actual prices pricewatch at www.tweakers.net (search for compact
flash)

My Distributer: 256 MB CF, own brand, less then 100 Euro's

I will post more information when I have received my CF-card and can tell
more about the quality...

Re: Anti-Spam !!!

2002-06-25 Thread Mari van den Broek

Hello...

This mail is for the people who mantain the MSX List

 First: Kill *ALL* HTML mail

I don't like it either, but some people can't resist to use HTML or even
another format to send their mails in...

Second: Users who aren't on the list can't mail to the list

Why shouldn't people who are not subscribed to the list not be able to send
messages?

Third: If somebody starts spaming kill the user

Nice try! Should we now kill you because the first reply you send on the
spam message was as bad as the spam message itself (it only contained the
text I vote for)...

Just some stupid idea's to stop the spaming

You're smart enouogh to see it ios stupid?

If the spamming doesn't stop in a moth i will quit the list.

Start by deleting the spamm-messages you recieve, but before you do that,
send the original message-header to SpamCop or another group of people who
can take the appropriate actions to stop these people! For example, my ISP
is using a blocklist to filter these kind of messages before they arrive at
the costumer (me!)...

 A great idea, isn't it?

Yes, some people I know bought it on the fair in Tilburg last April. Works
nice, have allready bought several different CF-cards...

Made some suggestions to Sunrise, why not make a combination of IDE
(hardisk) and CF-Card...

Documentation isn't complete, have allready tested 16 MB and even 8 MB
CF-cards and they work fine. Only had some problems with the cards I used
when I put them back in my Digital Camera (cannot format card, camera says
it cannot support this card)... Have formatted it on my PC with Multi

Re: [MSX] New MSX hardware

Hello,

I think that would be a good idea, because many people tend to CC: to
the list when posting to several MSX lists, or when answering to
someone's private email AND the list at the same time. Having the string
[MSX] or anything else in the subject of the messages would make
 filtering much easier.

Why don't you make a filter that looks at TO and CC and maybe even BCC
Why bother putting [MSX] in the subject!

I use Outlook Express (or Outlook at work) and I have no problems with the
mail that is coming in from the mailinglist... simply making 1 good filter
and that's it... There's even a filter wizzard in Outlook Express (there
is nobody that stupid that they cannot handle this)!

Hey didn`t we first have the problem there weren`t any good games for the
GFX9000 so why would someone buy it? So I think it ain`t bad if there is
only a small group of msx-ers who can use it.

I was one of the first owners of a GFX9000... at that time many
people/groups promissed to make games and other programs for it... Only a
few demo's were released, but no good games...

New hardware can't be sold if there is no software for it... There's still a
lack of software for the GFX9000 so there aren't many people who buy a
GFX9000... fewer buyers = lesser software...

If it really be that great the sale of GFX 9000 might increase which
will make it a better game platform.

First we have to have a lot of nice software that will be included in the
package... Hopefully for free because this stimulates (hopefully) people to
buy a GFX9000 and that hopefully results in creating new software!

By the way how many games where released for the GFX 9000.
2 ? (bomberbattle and the really crappy pacnac one ?)

I really don't know... Maybe people on this mailinglist can tell us which
software/games are developed for GFX9000...

Re: MSX fair at Bussum

2001-08-05 Thread Mari van den Broek

Hello Hans-Peter,

I have a question. I haven't been on a MSX fair for quite a long time and
 then only to Tilburg.

That's a pitty... also the fair in Bussum is quite nice... Why don't you
visit it? Allmost all hard-core MSXers are there...

It could have something to do with the already present
partitions on the ZIP-disk, but I don't want to erase them

Why don't you use a new ZIP-disk instead of the one you don't want to erase?
This is the easiest way to check if the statement you made about it is
correct...

A second thing is that I have a GFX9000 but I don't have anyhing that uses
that thing but a few demo's.

I know your probblem, many people think the same... Nice hardware, but no
good software... Many things were promissed at the time the GFX9000 was
released, but only a few pieces of software were released... My GFX9000 is
getting a little dusty, haven't used it for a very very long time...

So. Is it possible to sit down behind someones own computer on that fair
and work with others to solve each others difficulties?

Contact the organizers of the fair, maybe they can reserve some space for
people who will bring their own computer, just for fun, playing games or
solving problems...

Re: Searching for Photographs of MSX-fairs/Meetings!

Hello Stephan (and all other MSX-users on this list)...

I made pictures at tilburg 95, zandvoort 95, tilburg 96, zandvoort 96,
tilburg 97, zandvoort 97 and I believe some more, but these I know for
sure.
The first 3 are allready on photocd, some of the negatives are scanned, but
the rest is just negatives. I want to scan them all, but didn't have time
for it.

Where can I get that photo-CD? I'm sure there are a lot of people who made
photographs, but the biggest problem is how to reach them to provide me with
either the scanned photographs or borrow me the originals to scan them
myself!

They are the same pictures as Hnostar published in their magazine.
Maybe they allready scanned the negatives? I don't know.

I'm not sure, I can ask them. I allways send them the original photographs I
make with my digital camera (high res. low compress.)

I'll try to borrow a negative scanner this week to scan them all.
Then I'll put them online somewhere.
OK?

That would be nice...

Also I know for sure that there is someone (I don't remember his name) who
was on almost all early tilburgs and zandvoorts with a semi-prof
videocamera. He must have lot's of material.

Maybe these video-movies can be converted to either MPeg or DivX? I have a
really good capture card (Asus V6800) so the making of Mpeg or DivX isn't a
problem, just borrow me the cassette (VHS?) where the film is on!

Hopefully readers of this mailinglist will respond and send me a message
directly ([EMAIL PROTECTED])

Re: SCART to composite

2001-02-28 Thread Mari van den Broek

Hello,

Well, I bought the thing a new floppy drive, connected pins 33 and 34 of
the
main board (where it connects to the cable) with a jumper, connected it...
nothing. It still complains about "disk offline". Any ideas, anyone?

This should work... does the led of the disk-drive go on and off when you
turn on the computer?

Check if there is a D(rive)S(elect) jumper on the diskdrive... many
diskdrives do not have jumpers but are soldered (SMD-resistor!). Be sure
that DS=0 for drive A en DS=1 for drive B.

If there is no jumper, or you can't solder SMD it is possible to solve the
problem... Open the connector at the side of the drive and remove the
flatcable from it... With a sharp knife you can split the cable between wire
9 and 10 en 12 and 13 (over a length of aboyt 4 cm!)... If you turn this
piece of cable (3 wires) 180 degrees and put it back in the connector, DS0
and DS1 are switched from there place!

Re:

2001-02-24 Thread Mari van den Broek

Hello,

Finally, my MSX2 suddenly started complaining "Disk offline" and suddenly
refused to read floppies. I think that it is no longer capable of detecting
floppies, perhaps because of a worn-out rubber band, as was suggested to
me.

Is this correct?

I had the same problem with my Panasonic FS-A1GT... in the beginning I had
only problems with a few disks... a couple of weeks later more and more
disks were "offline"... The next day it was impossible to read any disks.

A good friend send me a new belt for the diskdrive... I took me about 10
minutes to replace the belt... The drive is working perfect now! Replacing
the belt of the diskdrive of a Turbo-R is much easier then of the diskdrive
of for example the NMS 8250!

I'm sure there are people who can help you with this belt or even replacing
it if you aren't "handy" enough to do it yourself.

It does that with all the disk I put in the disk-drive...

I allready tried cleaning the heads of the disk-drive, but that doesn't seem

Re: Disk-Drive is making nosie and is no longer reading disks!

2001-01-21 Thread Mari van den Broek

Hello,

Yes, that's a possible cause. But when my turbo R's drive was broken,
replacing the rubber band didn't solve the problem.

You should try first to replace the rubber band. It's easy and cheap and
there is a fair chance of success. If that doesn't work, you'll need a new
drive and that is tricky.

I don't know where to get this belt, more people have problem finding them.
I've allready send some messages to people who hopefully can help me with
this belt or replacing the disk-drive.

Maybe there is somebody on this list who has a broken Turbo-R with a
disk-drive that is still working?? Contact me!

The turbo R needs a ready and a disk change signal. PC drives that are sold
today don't provide those signals. The signals can be faked by modifying
the
drive, but then it won't run as smooth as it should. The best option is to
try and find an old drive that does provide a ready and a disk change
signal,
but that takes some searching.

I know... The disk-drive can't be found in European shops... and I even
think it is hard to find them anywhere else... Maybe in japan?

A couple of years ago I heared it was possible to connect a second
disk-drive to a Turbo-R, maybe that is a solution... maybe someone can telle
me...

Re: The Japanese Sunrise misunderstanding???

2000-07-08 Thread Mari van den Broek

Hello,

Last year we went to Madrid (to visit the fair!). Other people in Holland
told us that is was impossible to communicate with some people in Spain. We
didn't believe this at all.

Sure there are some languages difficulties, but why don't we use hand and
feet to make sure that people can understand us. Sometimes the knowledge of
English is very poor, but I'm sure everybody can try to use some foreign
words to get it clear... (after I few days in Spain, it was possible to
recognize several words in a sentence and with that to understand what they
were talking about in Spanish!).

Therefore I think that when people say that he could not communicate, you
haven't put enough effort in it TO COMMUNICATE.

Re: Bad cartridge connector (was:Top 100 MSX games)

2000-06-03 Thread Mari van den Broek

Hello,

It's called a cotton swab I think, but I'm not sure...
Anyway, it will work also, but contact cleaner is designed to solve oxides
and sulfates, so it will work on really dirty connectors as well.

It is best to clean the contacts with alcohol after the use of the "contact
cleaner"... After using only "contact cleaner" the contacts will oxidate
much faster!

Please people, try to let Peter reconsider!

Stop complaining Manuel. I think Peter is right. If he doesn't want to share
his sources, we can't make him do that! By the way, are the sources of your
programs available for everybody who wants to take a look at it?

Photographs Uploaded to Funet!

2000-04-18 Thread Mari van den Broek

Hello,

Today I've uploaded my photographs to Funet. Hopefully they are soon on-line
to be downloaded... (the maintainer of Funet-MSX will let us know the exact
locatione where we can find the photographs!)

They are free to be used in magazines! But please mention my name for the
credits (there are still people who use MY photographs and write that THEY
MADE THEM!)...

Files with the names "TB2000-xx.JPG" are the photograps I made!

If there any problems downloading the photographs, please let me know so I
can mail them to you by e-mail!

Re: Japanese visitors

2000-04-16 Thread Mari van den Broek

Hello,

Anyone talked to the japanese visitors at the fair? I hope they weren't to
depressed after seeing 'the biggest fair in europe' :)

I suppose that everybody who could speak more than two words in English,
talked to them (using hand and feet!).

During the day I visited them several times and itr seemed to me that the
weren't dissapointed (maybe Rieks can tell us more!).

Re: Manuals .htm

2000-03-21 Thread Mari van den Broek

Hello,

Any OCR software that generates PDF?

Adobe Acrobat is suitable for scanning images and text and can write it down
as PDF-file.
This softwarepackage is really expensive, but I'm sure you can find it on
one of the "illegal" CD-ROM's...

My only problem is that Adobe Acrobat is installed on one machine and the
scanner is connected to another one... But... I prefer to "edit" the scanned
images before writing them on my harddrive (remove spots, smears etc.)...

It is a little bit extra work, but it keeps me from the streets so to say...

Re: CGA monitor on MSX

2000-02-26 Thread Mari van den Broek

Hello,

The Commodore 1084 monitor is REALLY a Philips monitor, but with different
case.

Also, I have two 1084 monitors, one with 8DIN and another with 9PIN, but I
cant to connect any of my MSX's, the problem is the synchronism. Any idea?

If the 9-Pin connector is a SUB-D connector you can connect your MSX to it:

1 - GND
2 - GND
3 - RED
4 - GREEN
5 - BLUE
6 - nc
7 - RGB STATUS
8 - nc
9 - nc

You can use RGB STATUS for SYNC! I've connected my Panasonic FS-A1GT to a
CM8833-II (Philips CGA) monitor...

Re: ERIX 1.1 Public Domain Including manual upload at Funet!

2000-01-26 Thread Mari van den Broek

Hello,

I've just picked up a combined IDE/RS232c cartridge from Sunrise on the
MSX-fair in Oss, but the software was not available then, so I'll have to
get it from Funet.

You can get the software from Sunrise! I wonder why they haven't send you a
disk with the software on it, I suppose they did write down your name and
address? (Sunrise got the software later that day!)

Since Erix is public domain, I thought that it would be a good idea to
upload it to Funet so many people can download and use it!

Maybe Sunrise can put the complete package of Erix also on-line on their
site? (or they can place a link to Funet!).

If people can't find it on Funet they can mail me and I will send the file
to them!

Hello,

BTW: looks like the file PROGRAMR.LZH is missing in the archive.

Hmm could be that I lost it in the zip=lzh process, maybe Mari knows?
Should it be in there?

Yes, that file should be in there... Winzip didn't like to ADD this file to
the allready exsisting ZIP-file...

The correct file is now upload to Funet and can be installed!

Re: ERIX 1.1 Public Domain Including manual upload at Funet!

2000-01-25 Thread Mari van den Broek

Hello,

Will this one work with the new RS-232 interface from Sunrise? And what's
the difference between the PD and the commercial version of Erix?

Ofcourse it will work! This is the Erix version you get when you buy that
new RS232c-interface!

The only difference between the registered version and the public domain
version is the "registration-name" in the file!

BTW: looks like the file PROGRAMR.LZH is missing in the archive.

Something went wrong when I zipped the files... I have just uploaded the
correct version (with that file!) to Funet... Tristan can install this new
file...

I have just uploaded Erix 1.1 Public Domain, inlcuding the manual (Dutch and

Hopefully Tristan will remove the "beta"-version and the driver and will

The file-name is: ERIX_PD.ZIP

Have fun...

A few years ago I read in the dutch magazine MCCM something about age+ (or

GE5, PCX, BMP etc. It was made (according to the article) by jbSoft.
Well, I don't know if it still exists, but I canNOT find anything on the
web. Please help me on info about this. I do not care if it's crap, so I'm
not interested in opions this time.
