Re: [MSX] Dir as Disk in blueMSX 1.7.0

2004-09-22 Thread TFH|Fony
Still..
It would be nice to see something like the CJS Emulator disk-access, even it
was only optional :) This way you can also choose to run a normal MSX system
without these options.
And, how about a virtual HD drive? A big file like a .DSK image, but then a
.HDD image? And maybe another crazy idea: How about using your PC's
cardreader (for CF/SD/Memorystick/etc) for the MSX Emulator, so you can
access it just like the Sunrise CF-interface?

OK, ok.. maybe this is a bit too much, but still :) :)

Actually, Compujunks' (CJS) MSX emulator was the first emulator with this

Indeed... and if I remember correctly... that one wasn't limited by MSX-DOS

Hello, Patriek

Just make a jaw-dropping demo and bash all the cock-suckers in it ;) This is
the way groups and individuals used to fight in good old days, and it always
was fun and attracting more people into the scene :)

FAC was bashing C=64 folks, then FAF bashed FAC and so on and on!

And if your opponents don't have the skills to answer with a counter-strike
demo of their own - well, they will prove they suck, and you rock! All the
MSX mob will be on your side, to take over the world :)

Seriously, don't take it so serious. Everyone knows msx.org news are full of
crap sometimes, but at least they do something on almost daily basis. I love
your MSX Bonzai and MEP, but those are static, you don't have news section.
No new content, no new code... And your GB emu is for extremely leet
hardware that probably only you and Padial himself have.

I like your work, and I respect your opinion. If you hate the guts of
someone (even myself), just prove them wrong by contributing a new demo or
game of high quality with your very special message. In this case your
opinion will be known forever!

Have fun,

Adrian

MSX Resource Center, also known as msx.org, is not what they pretend to

MRC makes appeasing promises and statements over and over, which are

They try to keep up appearances of being a community site, but in reality
MRC turned into a hypocrite, elitist group, who try to cover up things

2001-05-05 Thread TFH/Fony

Dear People,

It seems people still want to order the MEPonCD. I have decided that for the
time being, you are free to order it. What will you find on this CD?
*Over 3000 MSX-Games, including rare versions
*Lot's of MSX Games music (In .MP3, MIDI, XM, etc...)
*The complete MEP in HTML files (including the MySQL database)
*A whole bunch of MSX System ROM Images
As you can see, the .html files are on the CD as well. You are 100% free to
use these files, so you can even create your own copy of the MEP. Please
note that the files on this CD are updated untill Feb. 16th, 2001, so you
might have to update a few emulators, but that's it... The database will
take some time to re-program I guess...
So, if you are interested in this CD, please mail me at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

If you only wish to have the games, about 75% of them can be found for free
on FuNET in the pub/msx/mep-mirror directory.

He told me he was initially preparing to attend T. 2001, but dropped his

He also agreed that the current MSX Revsomething crap is a holocaust which
essentially is the ethnically cleansed attempt to rule anyone other than

He finally recommended me to keep away from .jp nazis, and wished those

I see. Well, Marcel's fmsx-dos has a good fm emulation, I thought Marat

Well, I wasn't too impressed with the FM-PAC emulation by Marcel to be quite
honest. Anyway, I don't know what routines Marat used, just like under
linux, it plays the right notes, but the instruments aren't emulated. All FM
SCC sounds sound like the standard PSG. So you hear the melody, but that's
it. I hope Marat will do something about this in the future.

I am kind of wondering when we will see the first MSX-Emulator with good
MSX-Music MSX-Audio emulation. Still haven't seen any. PSG SCC don't
seem to be a real problem, but FM-Sound seems to be quite hard for all our
emulation programmers.

Since I have a CIEL MSX2+ turbo with fm, I wasn't that impressed too, but
I must
say that Marcel's fm is the best one I ever saw in a emulator.

Well, you are right about that. It's the only one that actually tries to
emulate the sound. All others at this moment only emulate the notes

I don't expect Marat will make it good, I don't think he is willing to
make it real
good. He has many emulators to develop, and I think he's not one of those
guys that
want to do his softs as good as possible.

I guess you are right about that. We will see though...

I think Ricardo Bittencourt will get a great fmpac emulation in brmsx
first.

Hmmm, I don't know. it has been 7 months since the last release of BrMSX. I
don't think Riccardo has done much with it. I guess he's too bussy with
school. He can do it though, but I think that probably Yeongman Seo
(ParaMSX) will be the first one. ParaMSX is the best (Windows) MSX-Emulator
around, already sith good PSG SCC sound. I think it's a good candidate for
MSX-Music Audio emulation.

Marat has yet to make a good psg emulation, with envelops and other
things.

Alsa o fact. And noise channel would be nice as well...

to
do the same on MSX. It would run for about, i think, 10 days, but when it

I think a litle thingie on the PC is neccessarry to get and send the
message. It could be done on the MSX, but I don't think a lot of MSXers
have
the MSX near a phoneline and have a modern type modem to connect to the
 internet.
Good luck, you programmers, I am not one of you, but I envy you in this
 great task!
 Hapzee

Hmmm, the idea is quite nice, but also not feasable.. The problem that the
source is not available, and that Seti is not planning to release it. So,
it's kinda hard to find the formulas.. And also: I am afraid it will be a
tad longer then 10 days (240 hours)...
A 486DX-66 needs about 100 hours, which is aproc 5 days..
I am afraid an MSX needs multiple months to finish one package...
But: I mus admit: It would be cool to have a seti clinet for MSX.. (Maybe
R800 or Z380 ???)

who cares anyway that counter adds up whenever you press refresh... so
it's unreliable as h*ll
just use nedstat (as you already do)

Indeed, MSX Rating is not really realiable. It happens once in a while that
someone hits the refresh button lot. Then they have 300 hits in the
MSX-Ratig, and then you check the other counters on their site, and then you
can see they only had about 30 or 40 visitors. I know...
But still it's a nice list to check out the popularity of most MSX-Related
sites. And, as I om on top most of the time, I really don't mind ;)
And through NedStat it's not possible to compare the MSX sites with each
other.

Open MSX FTP-Site

2000-10-19 Thread TFH/Fony

Hi you all!

I have decided to open up a general FTP site for the MSX Community. You
question is probably going to be: WHY??? We already have FuNET? Well... Here
is why...

We have had a discussion on the MSX newsgroup about posting binary files. We
rather not have this there. But there are also not enough people to open up
a specific MSX binary group.
The FTP-site will be completely open for the public. This means you can
upload/download and even DELETE files. This means I place some trust to the
MSX community by this.

This is the FTP info:
Server: file-hunter.com
Login: msx
Password: msx

Or through your browser:
 ftp://msx:[EMAIL PROTECTED]/

This way we can easily share files within the MSX community, and I simply
but my faith in you that all of you guys and girls will know how to behave.
You can read more info on our website: http://www.file-hunter.com/

Best Regards,

The MEP-Crew

stupid guy who would like to trash the FTP, lammers who would like to

I know...

Well, we will see how long it will work.. If there is too much abuse, I will

No.. You are 100% right about this... But why not help us out, and making
the Games Databaase bigger and better then it is, instead of making another
site that links to these games? You'll be the 3rd one.. And this probably

though. I am looking for 2 or 3 persons to join the MEP-team and help us out
with it. Also for other things: If you have an idea of something that should
be added to the MEP.. It can be done: by you!!! If you have some spair time,

MEP partiatly offline...

2000-08-21 Thread TFH/Fony

Hi guys!

This time I am going to send out some bad news to you all.
As you might know, we have done our best the last 2 years to supply you with
all the MSX Emulators around, and also we have tried to collect all the MSX
Games we could find and to put them online for you.
We have succeeded quite wel in that last part, and we now have about 2800
files online in our database. But, to all good things, there comes an end...

As some of you might have already noticed, about 40% of our files in the
databse is unavailable right now. We are not going to solve this. Even
worse: Our Games Database will go oflline completely in a couple of days...
WHY ??? You may ask..
Well, a couple of reasons:

1. TIME... I simply don't have the time any more to keep updating all this.
My job is demanding too much from me, and I also want some time to spend
with my wife now and then ;)
2. Lack of interest from the users: I have requested help from all of you a
couple of times, but no one wants to help me out... O.K. Perfect, but then
don't expect me to keep this thing online...
3. MONEY... The traffic this databsse was generating was huge. The MEP had a
traffic of about 150 gig a month. I am not willing to pay this anymore...

Well, these are the main reasons.. There are also a few minor ones, but
those are not so important.

Anyway.. What does this mean:

1. If you still want to download any games from the MEP, you'd better hurry.
2. The MEPonCD will stay available untill the end of this month, then it
will disapear as well.

On the other hand:

1.Emulators will stay online and will be updated
2.Music will stay online
3.Fony will stay online
4.I will have some space to spare. If someone needs external hosting of
files, I am prepared to help out...

Well, Not so nice news I guess... But it had to happen someday

Best Regards,

TFH/Fony

Re: MEP partiatly offline...

2000-08-21 Thread TFH/Fony

It's effectively the moment of the good and the bad surprises ! I
understand
why you have taken this decision, but it's a very great deception for the
MSX fans. Maybe there is a fourth reason : the announcement by ASCII of
creating in the next months a new downloading site with a freeware part
and
a commercial part, including the old games of Konami, Namcot, Sega,...
It's the eternal problem of the neverending copyright, though these games
weren't available since ten years at least ! That's must be for you also a
source of disappointment. By the way, I have discovered that there's no
more
MSX directory on JAZZ. As this ftp site is in Korea, I think that this
fact
could find his explanation in the future new site of ASCII.

Hi!
No, this is not the reason... It are really the reasons I explained earlier:
Time, Money and lack of interest among the MSX comunity to help me out. It's
as simple and plain as that... I don't epxect too much from ASCII anyway,
but that's my personal opinion...

To be more positive, I'm interested by your CD. You can send me a e-mail
privately for the explanations (can I send you an Eurocheque, as I live in
Belgium ?). My e-mail address is the following :

Ag0ny had an official interview with ASCII. So it seems, ASCII indeed has
again commercial plans in some form with the MSX-system

I dare to say this is the most interesting news we had in more then 10
 years.

And no one, absolutely no one (except for Takamichi) reacts...

Ehmm,

Maybe a lot of people are on holiday.. (It's been very quiet on this list
lately...), and maybe some of us are afraid to get the same discussion again
as a couple of weeks ago...
Well, let's hope it's true and see what the future will bring :)

SCC Version of old konami Games

On the Konami Games collections you can find a lot
of old Konami Games, but then with upgraded SCC sound. I have added a lot of
these to the database:

Versions for SCC, SCC+ (SD-Snatcher The
Snatcher version)

Antarctic Adventure
Knight Mare
Yie Ar Kung Fu 1
Yie Ar Kung Fu 2
Boxing
Hyper Sports 2
Video Hustler
Super Cubra
Go Gothello
Rice Men 1 2
Title Memory

For the SCC+ only I have added:

Nemesis 1
Sky Jaguar
Twinbee
Hyper Rally
Pippols
Road Fighter.

This also means I am still looking for the
following versions:

For normal SCC:

Nemesis 1
Sky Jaguar
Twinbee
Hyper Rally
Pippols
Road Fighter

And all SCC version (Normal and SCC+ versions) of:
Soccer
Ping Pong
Hyper Sports 3

Anybody who canhelp me with locating these?

Re: Microsoft SuX

2000-07-19 Thread TFH/Fony

The MSX-Basic and the MSX-DOS operating system were developed by M$. And
it isn´t such a statement that MSX means ¨M$ eXtended¨... They have
developed BASIC to a great variety of computers, but it doesn´t mean that
these computers belongs to Micro$oft.
M$ left ASCII alone later, thankx lord...

Sure... And the MS in MSX-DOS and MS-DOS also don't mean Micro$oft...
And I wouldn't be so happy about the fact M$ left the MSX to ASCII. ASCII
didn't do such a great job with MSX and the system lost popularity. If M$
would have supported it, it would have had a far bigger chance...
Sure M$ bashing is cool nowadays.. But don't deny their involvemend...

this 'new msx' and 'i hate microsoft'.

Lets have fun and talk about MSX again, not about who is right or wrong.

Indeed. My point exactly. MSX=FUN. Let's keep it that way :-))

Or, as the Japanse claim, it stands for Matsushita/Sony.

MSX BASIC version 2.1
Copyright 1986 by Microsoft

or

MSX System
version 1.0
copyright 1983 by Microsoft.

That's what MSX machines say. And as Micrsoft has a habit of shortening
their name to MS... It would make sense

That's because of the installed O.S. What I was talking about in the the ROM

Anyway... You just think and say what you want. I don't know why everbody

Re: Why this discussion again!!

2000-07-13 Thread TFH/Fony

Hmmm.. I am going to get quite some angry remarks now probably... Anyway,
Let's get it over with... I am going to interfere in this discussion only
once, and that will be it. Because I don't want to cause any anger, or long
discussions.

It was always quite clear, untill that discussion a few months ago, that MSX
stood for MicroSoft eXtended. Ever since Microsoft got into problems because
of it's windows/ie integration everyone is thinking it's cool to kick
MicroSoft's butt. And since that time, everyone is trying to deny the fact
that MicroSoft is largely responsible for MSX (At least it's Basic initial
DOS versions, probably more). ASCII MicroSoft worked together on
everything (untill that dragon incident).
I simply don't believe that story from Kazuhiko Nishi. Why after 17 years
would this story emerge... It's a nice story, but I don't believe it. All
the CEO's of these companies were involved and have talked with each other
at some level. If this story was true, it would have come through. And that
the X stood Yamaha, Philips, etc... Is simply illogical.

As for the "NEW MSX" discussion. It's all very nice. But I now work at a
company where we create new products like the X-BOX now for MicroSoft
(uuh...), the Activity for Siemens, etc.. I know what kind of work,
research and cost is involved in projects like this. Taking this in account,
it's highly improbable that there is one firm interested in actually doing
something like this. The thought is very nice, but not realistic.
MSX only has a small user base these days. Even in Japan, this user base is
close to non-existing. Just read the e-mails send by Manuel the last few
days.
MSX was/is a very cool system, because is was highly user friendly and has
some fantastic games. Let's enjoy what we have and keep playing with it...

This is just my opinion. Please accept the fact that it will probably be
completely different then yours. But let it be mine, and respect that. I
will respect yours...

Best Regards!

Re: Booting from .DSK image with MSX-DOS

2000-07-11 Thread TFH/Fony

I'm running it with the "FMSX-DOS -DISKA MSXDOS2.DSK"
command line. The MSX (emulated) boots straight into
BASIC instead of MSX-DOS, although when I type "FILES"
it shows that "MSXDOS2.SYS" and "COMMAND2.COM" are
there... What else do I need? Would it have anything
to do with the DISK.ROM file? Should I make a ROM dump
of my actual MSX disk interface?

Hi!

It seems the disks you are using require MSX-DOS V2.. I don't know if fMSX
supports this. But you will at least need to download the MSX DOS V2 .ROM.
You can do this at: http://www.file-hunter.com in the ROM's Section.
You could also try to use RuMSX which does support MSX DOS V2.

Re: Game

2000-06-25 Thread TFH/Fony

 HLLLPP

I can't make a dsk copy of Back to the Future for MSX2
The game runs perfect when using Ru-MSX (accessing directly the disk, no
image copys), and I can make a perfect (working) copy using copyQM, but
there's no emulator that recognises this format (which I dont even know
 what is)

I try to make a direct copy (copy a:*.*) but that didn't work either...
So,
I used Dcopy to make a dsk file, but no success! This is driving me
 crazy!!

I even tryed to using brmsx and some disk copy program to make a copy from
the real disk (in drive A) to a fake disk (drive b an empyt image file)...
but couldn't make any good copier to work in it! (Chave
 mestra/diskcopy/fastcopy)

Hi!

Try to use Formula. This can copy (almost) everything. You can find it on
the MEP in the GAMES DB. MAybe this will help.

Re: Info concerning 'new MSX'

2000-06-22 Thread TFH/Fony

- Original Message -
From: Marco Frissen [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I think the easiest, fastest and cheapest way for a 'new MSX' is to build
a
dedicated MSX emulator for DC and/or PS2. The machines are powerful enough
for it. The other advantage is that you can build a new MSX emulator: so,
what you want in a real machine: code it in the emulator, and you'll have
an
 emu that supports MSX1,2,2+,TR,3(?)

The idea is quite good, but I think it would be better to do it on the PC
(or Mac??) The problem is that in a couple of years, DC, PS/2 or X-Box will
again be replaced by new consoles that might not be backward compatible,
rendering your emulator useless. Also diskdrives and other pheripherals are
easier to get for PC and Mac.

Greetz,

TFH

P.S.
But I am afraid that most people over here would like to see a real machine,
and not an emulator...

Hey! We have all respectful sites and that have a good number of
visitors each. Even though we all propose many MSX games, our sites
are all very different and complementary and if we can promote each
site (by word of mouth, by links etc...) we'll all do well. Any ideas
 of cooperation are welcome.

Indeed. MGAB is a very nice site, with a complete different approach then
the MEP. Phil put a lot of time in his site, and so did we in ours. I don't
see anything wrong with having multiple sites with a number of cross-overs
or partialy the same content. It gives everyone a choice to go to the
website of their liking. A bit of deversaty is quite good, and some level of
"competition" is very healthy.
Not that there really is a competition, but anyway :-))

Hi Shatterhand,

Maybe this is easier then you think. On our site (the MEP) we keep
statistics of all downloaded games. You can ask for a top 10, top 50 and a
top 100 of downloaded games. This will probably make life quite a bit

I was thinking about make a Top 100 MSX games list, so I would make a
research to discover everyone favourites games.
So, people would have to send me a list with you 30 favourite games, in
order of prefernce. The 1st game would receive 30 points, the 2nd 29, the
3rd 28, and so on. Then, after some time, I would post the top 100 list in
a
Web page, with descriptions, and maybe screenshots, and maybe even links
for
 download the game.
What do you poeple think about this idea? I am not going to do it, if only
a
few people are interested, but if there's enough people interested, I
would
 certainly do it..

Oh, and if you are interested, please, DON'T send me an e-mail with your
list, I will soon create an e-mail account just to receive your votes.

So, there's enough people interested on this?

Hehe...

Indeed, but on the other hand if you take a closer look:
There are 4 versions of Metal Gear 2 in the list. If you add these together,
you will see that this is actually the most downloaded game of them all.
And indeed: for some reason those sex games are quite popular. I didn't
expect that. And after checking the IP numbers: Most of the went to Japan

Also, can someone make the version of American Soccer in Funet work?
That's
the same version I have in my MSX (The same guys who cracked, the sam

intro sequence), and I know there's a trick to make it work, but I can't
remember. Or, anyone there with a working version of American Soccer (And
the one in M.E.P. is not American Soccer, it's a Mah Jong game)

Well... You could have considered of course to send me an e-mail so I could
correct it. If you see a mistake like this on my site, why don't you simply
tell me? I can probably fix this a lot faster then Funet. But then somebody
has to tell me Is it really that hard?
I more and more het the idea that people love to download all the games and
stuff from my site, but if they actually have to do something in return,
even if it is very very small, they are too lazy to do so.
I still have hundreds of games here, some even very rare and hard to find
games. But things like this take away my drive to actually add them to the
site...

 still is 1.x

FmsxDOS V1.6b2 to be precise.. And although Marcel mentions on his site he

It's quite a shame. It used to be the best emulator around. But now we have

Isn't there somebody else who could do a DOS port of Fmsx V2.1 ???

I'm very impressed with the late progress of BrMSX. It
runs now a lot of games flawlessly and even many non-game
programs. This emulator is improving in a steady pace and
I believe RicBit will someday reach his goal: perfect MSX
emulation -- and even with an earlier generation processor. :)

Indeed. BrMSX is getting better and better all the time. MSX-1 emulation was
very good already, and now MSX 2(+) emulation is added.. Phew :-)) Now only
some MSX Music/Audio Emulation would be nice and support for PCI soundcards.
Anyway... We will se what the future will bring! NowI am going to play with

Re: Barunba game

As usual, the problem of BrMSX is the lazyness of the programmer :)

I only added support to horizontal scroll in SCREENs 5 and 6.
I didn't bother to add it in SCREEN 4, because the only game I know that
uses it is Space Manbow, and since Space Manbow already works in msx2
mode, I thought people wouldn't care about that. As usual, I was wrong :)

Adding SCREEN 4 support is easy as 3.1416. The next version
 of BrMSX will have it.

Re: SD Snatcher

2000-05-09 Thread TFH/Fony

Hi Micha!

For playing SD-Snatcher on the PC I'd recommend you to use the most current
version of BrMSX. This is an MSX Emulator that works under DOS. This means
you need to have some basic DOS skills to run this emulator, but it ain't
that hard to do.
If you don't want to fiddle around in DOS, just try RuMSX. This is a good
MSX-Emulator under Windows, but you'll need a fast machine.
Both Emulators emulate the SCC cartridge as well, so it shouldn't give any
problems...
