[MLO] Capturing Notes
Hi Peter, I am not sure but, there is no way to attach a note to various activities at the same time (you mean at once?) in MLO Desktop. I suggest you to create a folder (if you want to change the icon, do it at your will), to use as a note taking container (under properties on the right panel). As you take your notes, organize yourself in a system, so that, for every note you create a link under it for the task you want to accomplish. P.S. - The folder mentioned above can be your project main folder if you want. I hope it helps. [MLO] Advanced Filtering enhancement needed | Text Tag Search as you type
Hi all, Since I use advance filtering (left panel) for some views, realised could make mistakes on typing the text tag. The right panel for assigning text tag to tasks has a search as you type behavior, but the Advanced Filtering (left panel) has not and that leads to avoidable errors, regardind tyoe mismatch. Hi all, I was working in MLO Windows and realized some features it could enhance. I think, this is not priority feature, but regarding UX could help a lot. I start this suggestion asking: - What if we could add a task by selecting an existing one, right click on it and have options like? Parent task (this does not exist) Sibling task (this exist as New task) For me this would be useful and at the same time leads to efficiency in adding tasks to a previous list/group of them, mainly when we forget a parent task. [MLO] Re: Project Statuses and Autoformat Rules
Hi Dwight, Thank you for your reply. Regarding Project Management procedures, I can understand the NotStarted project status. But, let me disagree with you, at a certain point, about Suspended status. I agree with you when you approach Suspended status like NotStarted in some cases, but I disagree if I see the other side of Suspended status. I mean, there are projects, in life that will be suspended at all and will “never” re-start, which means their child tasks should never be ticked off until we change the status to InProgress or NotStarted. You question “Perhaps I would want to record these tasks within the project?” I would reply: yes, since they are part of the project. If I would not record such tasks within the project, but need them to be solved before it to start, that would lead me to the concept of Tasks Dependencies, before the change of project status to “re-start” (manually). I hope it makes sense and think MLO Team should manage it, so that all tasks would not be enabled for being ticked off when in a Suspended status. P.S. - I will try to manage these tasks relationship so that MLO Win autoformat reach my needs about project managemet statuses (NotStarted and Suspended) and dependecies, because I thing all ingredients are there. [MLO] Re: Project Statuses and Autoformat Rules
Hi Dwight, Thank you for your reply. Regarding this thread, I pointed two issues regarding Project Statuses. *First:* I created an Autoformat Rule for Inactive Projects (Not Started or Suspended), so that everyone in such categories (status) would appear faded in my Projects List. What I realized is that, solely Suspended Projects Tasks appear faded, including the project itself. Regardig Not Started Projects, don't appear faded. *Second:* Regarding all your explanation about *Not Started *Projects, I understand and agree in such point of view. But I disagree all about *Suspended *Projects, since they are different concept relating to Not Started*.* For that, their tasks would not be ticked off, unless we change its status to: Not Started, In Progress, others. As you can try, If a project is in a *Suspended *status, its subtasks remain enabled for being ticked off. In which real life situations does it make sense, different from Not Started status? [MLO] Project Statuses and Autoformat Rules
Hi all, I start this discussion because found an issue in MLO desktop version regarding Project Statuses and Autoformat Rules. I created an Autoformat Rule for Inactive Project (Not Startet and Suspended) so that everyone in such categories appears faded in my Project List. I realized only Suspended Projects got this AutoFormat Rule, even its subtasks, but for Not Started Projects only project itself got it (the substasks did not). Can anyone try it and tell me if I am missing something? By the way, since this statuses regard hang up projects, why are they check boxes enabled? Wouldn't it be better to automate to match check boxes enalble/disabled to project statuses changing? I mean, If I check or uncheck, even accidentaly, a task box for a *Not Started*/*Suspended* project, such project keeps being executed. In my viewpoint that does not make sense. [MLO] Re: Custom flag autoformat assignment rules | Feature needed
Hi domas, As there are many possibilities, I would suggest MLO Team, to integrate such feature in a toggle on/off mode, depending on users, even if inot with scripting language. Flags could interact with most task properties, but not only flags: Imagine I create an autoformat rule to trigger and assign a custom flag previously created, to take into account a task context, tag , or text (caption, for example John) and so forth? By writing John in a task name, for example, one would have a result of setting (autoformat way) to several tasks a particular flag at once (chosen in the autoformat rule) The issue is not merely visual (icons) but for management purpose and efficiency on changing settings: there are flags created from icons but with different name of the original icon. The way it is now, one have to filter (if not in the same view) or select the intended tasks, right-click and assign the desired flag for all at the same time, but manually. Regarding the example above, MLO keeps its identity regarding its flexibility. I like MLO app, including Desktop version but, have the opinion that we can keep identity even with small, but useful, enhancements. Of course it is not possible to handle everything, but such tiny changes would keep MLO, step by step, in another stage in the future. I cross fingers for that to happen. BR. Re: [MLO] Re: Custom flag autoformat assignment rules | Feature needed
Hi Stéph, "In your example, you suggest creating "a custom flag with a name of person and particular icon", then you suggest assigning that flag based on an autoformat rule, which picks up on the use of a specific category, caption property (ie text term in the caption?) or tag" This mean you understood it well, I mean everything is in your text. :) I mean, with a custom flag previously created, one could "call" it and assign to a task just by typing its name in a task caption, or a text - in the limit any property - we define for it. But before it, one have to create an autoformat rule so that it works, where we can define conditions (I mean the expansion of condition rules) Beyond Icon assingnment, in autoformat dialog box, MLO could also handle Flag assignment (maybe a button in the dialog box the same as *icon*) in my viewpoint, based on caption and other tasks properties defined in the rules...or maybe a combination of flags in the same dialog to choose from. I know there are many workarounds for using icons and even, MLO Team cannot satisfy all users suggestions but, though we can use icon, I do not see them as flags when organizing my to-do lists, nor with the same purpose. Maybe a scripting language would be a solution, or another suitable one, to handle this features. Thank you for your interest in helping and understanding. HI imajeff, I agree with you. Regarding your idea, I've already started a discussion about this type of feature for some automation. Take a look it here: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/mylifeorganized/wxpd1I5WzNU Unfortunately, I received any opinion. In my viewpoint, even though MLO applies GTD methodology it must - in some cases - to follow daily dynamics, much of them regarding automation, leaving us time to think. [MLO] Custom flag autoformat assignment rules | Feature needed
Hi all, I have been trying to automate flag assignment to my tasks in MLO Win version, but could not manage any workaround for that. I would like to suggest MLO Team to create an autoformat way, one could have available, to allow to format tasks with custom flags just by changing contexts, tags or particular caption. For example, imagine I create a custom flag with a name of person and particular icon. If I want to autoformat such task(s) to be assigned the previous created flag, by their context, tag or caption property I found it impossible, since there is no option for this autoformat feature need. I hope this had been understood, because it would avoid so many clicks to assign custom flags to tasks. [MLO] Project completion Bug?
Hi all, When setting a task as a project, I noticed some issues: First: If the parent task (the project), with one child task, is set to a folder and with the status set as “in progress”, the “project completion %” (column) display 100% but property (Complete) field 50%. I think this is a bug, because if I make changes between folder property and the property (Complete) field match the “project completion %” to 100% and if I change the status to “completed” and tick off “folder” the “project completion %” display 50%. Second: If I deselect the folder property, “project completion %” (column) display 50% but property (Complete) field display 100%, and in about some seconds property (Complete) field display 50%. I think this is a bug. Third: If I change the Status property to “completed”, with folder property deselected the complete (field) display 50% the same way as “project completion %” value, that is 50%, which I think it is correct, since parent task is part of the project completion.. I hope that makes sense. Kind Regards, M. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MyLifeOrganized" group. Hi Dwight, I read your explanation carefully and one particular note took my attention. When you say that there are situations a project is not a task itself, you mean when they are set to folder? If so, which task property shall I have to change to keep out Project folder to not count as part of percentage completion, since it takes that into account? Am I missing something? Hi, Regarding the concept behind recurring task, it will occur when only when it’s due date is reached or its subtasks get competed, other conditions one set on advanced settings for that. So, MLO considers this (maybe I am wrong or missing something?) this in its functionality. I think the workaround would be to set reminder date to match the one on start date, for the task, and have a sistematic review on every reminder. You will notice much easier to use MLO for your intended purposes, so will never stop using it. If it helps, I want to point that MLO has no recipes on task management and so, for your life. And here resides its grateness, since most MLO features, if not all, are customizeable. I hope you enjoy it and this community is here to help. [MLO] MLO 5 Future feature | OpenType text enabling for icons in task entries
Hi all, Hi MLO Team, In one of my web search and thinking on how to “speed” in some way MLO tasks entries, found a website which I share here: https://fontawesome.com/get-started/desktop They provide icons using OpenType text, so one can easily have the ones we want. They provide also for Windows applications, then I thought: What if MLO could integrate and enable such kind of text formatting? Wouldn’t it be handy for...? - Notes? (p.ex checkboxes, other icons) - with no disregard to markdown language; - Task names with icons in between and in the position of the standard checkboxes (p.ex. With a template enabling OpenType just once for comfortable formatting reasons, one could integrate de icon code and after accepting the entry some “magic” occurs; This would be worth for Automatic Formating usability and for setting non actionable tasks icons such as references (icons like balloons and others) just by using the right icon code in the text); - And for other purposes, “The sky is the limit”. I suggest this as a future feature MLO Team would consider. What others think? BR M. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MyLifeOrganized" group. Re: [MLO] Can I filter on Tags?
Hi all, I do agree. What if we would use Text Tag included in Context Manager, as the same way we include on one another. I mean, what if we could include Text Tag in a specific context? I know that a workaround for a task delegation would be to write something in Notes, but in my opinion it would (maybe) worth to associate (include) Text Tags in some context, p.ex: @Home include #Kids; #Wife (something I do with them) @Computer include #Internet; #Software @ - Context # - Text Tag Even though I use hashtags it does not need to be like that, only to exist the tag itself. This one could be possible, but not only, to filter tags and to know what they mean in a certain context. I hope it makes sense. [MLO] Re: A piece of advice on tasks
Hi Aiman, For your need I used to add a dependency task, I mean the task that need to be completed will dependent of specific task. For that, got to Dependencies section in the task properties panel and add the apropriate tasks. On the Delay field set the time for it to wait and, as soon as you tick the task from which the main depends upon the main task will not appear until that time comes. So, it will appear on your to-do list. Another method is to assign a specific context to it and filter it according to that in a separate tab (but not necessary) if you want. BR. Hi MLO Team, Good job. By the way, would it be a good feature to access theme formatting in shortcut menu over a view? That would be nice. Another feature that would be useful is conditional format assigned to a task in a shortcut menu, allowing task properties to be assigned conditional format properties at a glance, allowing us less effort and more productivity on testing any conditional format previously defined. I scheduled some contexts so the tasks they are associated with display at a certain time, but their are still displaying (the tasks with closed contexts) in the filtered view. [MLO] Re: Google calendar integration: when?
If MLO is flexible why not? Everyone have their own methodology to accomplish tasks. The development of software, sometimes is according to life dynamic and users feedback and needs (in a reasonable way). I accomplish tasks in a daily basis, but used to *manage* them in a weekly basis to overcome surprises, I mean, the week is in my head but if I forget something I cast my attention to the timeline so that important tasks *must be reviewed next (days*), and even be canceled due to, a probably, antecipation. Being flexible is like @Roberto Penzo says "to add to the calendar only the tasks that you want (those that you are focusing on for today *or for some next days*)" - the underline is mine. I would say, if calendar view will be a feature, why not having the possibility to enable/disable it as a desire of everyone? [MLO] Re: task rules
Hi, Me too, regarding this possible automatic change. Regarding the MLO flexibility, I would suggest the option to toggle between manual and automatic Task's Rules. The same would be useful for other requested automatic features, leaving always two options for MLO to run under user desire or, in the limit, a combination of the two regarding such features/functionalities. Re: [MLO] In which situations do I need a Reminder to be set after a Due Date
Dwight, Thank you for your answer. I don't need a reminder after a due date,* I wonder* why do I need to set a reminder after a due date, as allowed by MLO algorithm. You answered: " (...) *some people use due date for the date on which I actually intent to perform this task. In that case, if time has passed and the task is still not done, it's possible that I missed it and needs a reminder"* I respect your point of view, but I would change due date (even start date) so that the reminder would be set always before the new due date, and this way I would always remember that I have to perform it. Yet, when a task is no longer meaningful it gets red, and I consider this a useful feature of MLO. This the visual "alert" which makes me reconsider recall such tasks, and redefine them or perform as soon as possible. I agree with your last paragraph, for sure. [MLO] In which situations do I need a Reminder to be set after a Due Date
Hi everyone, Can anyone explain me in which situations do I need a task to have a reminder date/time after the Due Date? Since we need reminders before Start/Due date, why can it be allowed to set after setting a Due Date. In my opinion, if we have a Due Date set, this would constitute a constrain for reminder Date/Time, like a message "Reminder Date/Time shall be less or equal Due Date/Time". I don´t know if I did not understand this issue well, but are there anyone who explains me this? Thanks. Re: [MLO] Re: Question on Project Status.
I agree with you Kevin. What if the second project status would be auto controlled by the application, when any of a project subtask is checked and pops up "Did the project started?"? Answering such question would then change the project status to "in progress". And as we uncheck any task (the "first" to make it start) it's percentage bar would return to 0%. The same behavior would be for the last task (the task which gives name to the project) "Did the project finished?", and answering "yes" its project status changes to "completed", that is 100%. I would like MLO developers to tell something about this. Is it good or not. If not why? P.S. - This is a concern from 2006. What happened since then? [MLO] Re: Due Next 7 Days (View) vs. Custom Due Date (View)
Hi, Thank you in advance for your help. I would have explain that this issue happens in MLO Android. I mean, if I use the standard view 'Due Next 7 Days' to filter my tasks and choose to groop by 'Due Date' it displays accordingly, that is, '07 Dec 2016 (Wed - Tomorrow)(2)', as I want it to be, for example two tasks. But, with the same settings and creating a view from scratch I don't get the same result. What I get is something similar to this: 'Due Date:thursday(2)' On both options I choose 'Is this week' to refine the view for the currently week tasks. If I duplicate the 'Due Next 7 Days' view and give it another name (my purpose) it displays accordingly, what in my opinion means the settings are stuck to the MLO standard views. Is it a bug? [MLO] Why is MLO Cloud Sync paid?
Andrey, I guess I was misunderstood. I did not meant that MLO would have to be free at all but, only the cloud sync service. I do not agree of free app or whatever product, and regarding MLO would not be too, since it is a good app. But regarding the cloud sync service, what is the main reason to keep it under charge? I think MLO Team would have to reconsider this issue, since those who bought the app or the windows version would have this cloud sync for free, in my opinion. [MLO] Android PUSH sync in public beta
I have tried the cloud sync for about a year. Honestly saying I figure that it would be better if this feature was naturally incorporated instead of being paid. The reason why I did not renewed my subscription it's because I don't think it's reasonable to pay for a so basic feature in the world of Cloud-based apps. And more, the price paid for the app is not reasonable for many potential users and much more, the addiction of this periodic subscription neither. Regarding this, I would suggest the MLO team to free this feature and I bet the number of users will grow up.
