perform on mysqlbug man page

2009-03-24 Thread jidanni
The mysqlbug man page has the weird word perform at the end of this
sentence:

The script will place you in an editor with a copy of the report to be
sent. Edit the lines near the beginning
that indicate the nature of the problem. Then write the file to save
your changes, quit the editor, and mysqlbug
will send the report by email. perform.

In most cases (including this one), this is _no_ good idea, as the

You have a very high trust in the capabilities of our crystal balls ...

For a question like this, you should definitely _at least_ tell your
platform and the package format you used for installation, also the
exact MySQL version might be interesting.

These are the informations Tracy sent me:

| I have version 4.0.18 presently installed. I am operating on Windows XP
| Professional with SP2 (that means service pack 2 in case your crystal
| ball doesn't clarify that for you). The installation was performed using
| Winzip to extract the files to my C: drive and then I ran Setup.exe.

So you used a package with an included installer.
AFAIK, a right-click on the package and/or calling the installer again
should provide you with an option to uninstall.

Windows users might check / correct / explain better.

| Since the website doesn't offer any clarifying explanation about how
| to uninstall the application, I would like to get some instructions
| on that.

These should be in the manual, not on the web site in general.

| Hopefully this is sufficient information for you to instruct me on the
| procedures necessary to uninstall your product.

Just very general, see above.
Maybe you did not notice, but I am definitely _not_ a Windows expert
(even though I know the term SP2), so I refer you to the list for
further details.

Please let me know how to install MySQL successfully on Linux.

You may use official binaries. See:

I was installing MySQL on Linux. At that time it was giving some problem

when I did ./configure.

Your libc libraries are not 100% compatible with MySQL version.

Mysqld should work normally with the exception that hostname resolving will

not work. This means that you should use IP address instead of host name

 when specifying Mysql privileges.

Jerome,
Perhaps the MySQL service is no longer running (in WIndows look at
the Services Manager), or the password has changed.

Suggest improvement for mysqlbug

2004-01-06 Thread Ingo . Struewing
Description:
I had some difficulties to send a bug report by mysqlbug. It
inserted my UNIX user name as From: and used some default mail
agent, which used my UNIX username @ local domain as the
sender address. While the first is merely uncomfortable, the
latter inhibited the mail from being delivered.

I improved mysqlbug so that it respects two environment
variables, if present (see the diffs below):

REAL_EMAIL - From: address. This is used by bitkeeper too.
MAIL_AGENT - Program to use for sending mail (I have one that
uses the From: address as sender).

This looks like a MySQL installation... right?

Well, you already said what the cause is ;)

Then they might just have forgotten to create the directory in the tar.gz

mkdir data
just before the
chown -R mysql datd
This should help.

mysqlbug

2003-08-08 Thread Kandi, Santosh
Hi,

I am a Sun solaris 5.6 user.

I do not have su or any other system permissions

We have PERL5.005 on the box

We do not have DBD::mysql

So I wanted to install that module into my private library.

Mysql server is on a remote unix box

So when I try to install the DBD::mysql module its looking for client and
development file of the mysql.

Please tell which is the best way to get these files. Also let me know if I
am missing something. I tried to download mysql source and run the configure
-server option...but running into permissions problems.

If I can download those files from anywhere, please let me where I cant get
them.

Thanks,

Santosh

Re: mysqlbug : problem while installing mysql

2003-03-07 Thread Steve Quezadas
I've heard a lot of cases where upgrading a windows 98 machine to
windows 2000 will cause problems later on. This may be the case with
your system. The only thing I can say is try using that same downloaded
executable on a friend's machine and see if it works there. If not,
theproblem is with your computers. Operating system upgrades aren't very
reliable.

Re: mysqlbug

2003-01-06 Thread Christian Schaffner
Hi Ing. Conti

You need to install the Dynamic loading compatibility library

http://www.opendarwin.org/projects/dlcompat

I would recommend that you install fink (http://fink.sf.net). Then all
you need to do is

fink install mysql

which automatically installs the dlcompat and compiles mysql. If you
want to compile it yourself you could still use

fink install dlcompat dlcompat-dev

to install dlcompat (which includes dlfcn.h)

Hope this helps,
Chris.

Re: mysqlbug

2002-09-18 Thread Michael Paesold

Hi Winnie,

You can run

rpm -qa |grep -i mysql

to see exactly what the installed packages are named.
Then you should be able to uninstall (rpm -e) these
packages. On the other hand, there could be some
package dependencies, which means, that some other
software installed will not run without the RedHat
MySQL RPMs...

Michael

 This is not a bug.
You have already installed MySQL RPM's provided by RedHat on
your server. You have to remove those first before you
can install the RPM's from www.mysql.com.

   rpm -e MySQL; rpm -e MySQL-server

There could be some dependencies, though.

Hello,

Check your working directory (type pwd) and check if the scripts directory
exists at all (type ls).

What version did you install and on what operating system? Was it a binary
or a source release?

If you installed a binary distribution, look in the bin directory
where mysql and the other client programs are installed.

2002-04-10 Thread Rfhamcomm

I purchased a book entitled PHP3 programming browser-based Applications it
came with a cd that contained a copy of MySql-3.22.16a-gamma for any linux
distribution. Anyhow, I am having problems installing the software on my SuSe
7.1 linux box. Basically, there are eleven steps that the author david
medinets requires in order to properly install the software, but of those
eleven, I am having problems with step 8. From root directory

linux: ~ #
-
1 cd /usr/local/src/mysql-3.22.16a-gamma
2 ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/mysql
3 make
4 make install
5 echo /usr/local/mysql/lib/mysql /etc/ld.so.conf
6 ldconfig -v | grep libmysqlclient
7 echo /usr/local/mysql/bin/safe_mysqld /dev/null /etc/rc.d/rc.local

8 ./scripts/mysql_install_db

9 /usr/local/mysql/bin/safe_mysqld /dev/null
10 ln -s /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql /usr/bin/mysql
11 ln -s /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql /usr/bin/mysqlshow

after this, the author gives you a sample code to test the database.
_
step 8
after entering this at the prompt:
linux: usr/local/src/mysql-3.22.16a-gamma # ./scripts/mysql_install_db

an error message ( did'nt find /usr/local/mysql/libexec/mysql )
( You should do a make install before executing
this script )

I tryed to run the sample code with out this being installed correctly,
but no luck. I would really like any help from anyone on solving this
problem. As far as libexec not be found, well there is a lib directory with a
subdirectory of mysql. Why its looking for libexec? Well, I simply don't
know. Thanks

mysqld is trying to change into your datadir /usr/local/mysql/data,

Try to create it (and give the proper ownership and permissions to your

mysqlbug: SIGALRM hangs read() on socket racecondition

2002-02-21 Thread cdaniel

Description:
I'm seeing random hung reads() after a mysql insert that appears to be
related to a sig alarm race condition. The basic workflow of this program
is

while (1)
recvfrom() /* few hundred packets a sec */
   parse packet
   insert into sql

However, once per second a sig alarm is generated which does house keeping
and what-not. This will work for minutes or hours, but eventually the
read(3, ...) blocks , which is the mysql socket. When this occurs you just
see the repeated sig alarms being catch, but immediately returning to that
read() which never returns. Note there is still hundreds of udp packets
coming in but never able to be read because the never-returing read(3,) on
the mysql sock.

Normal syscalls resemble:

write(3, \1\1\0\0\3INSERT INTO call_logging.de..., 261) = 261
read(3, \3\0\0\1, 4) = 4
read(3, \0\1\0, 3)= 3
recvfrom(5, ...) = 398

When the condition occurs:

read(3, 0x814a6b0, 4) = ? ERESTARTSYS (To be restarted)
--- SIGALRM (Alarm clock) ---
time(NULL) = 1014267832
rt_sigaction(SIGALRM, {SIG_IGN}, {0x4002fa10, [ALRM], SA_RESTART|0x400}, 8)
= 0
alarm(1)= 0
rt_sigaction(SIGALRM, {0x4002fa10, [ALRM], SA_RESTART|0x400}, {SIG_IGN}, 8)
= 0
sigreturn() = ? (mask now [])
read(3, 0x814a6b0, 4) = ? ERESTARTSYS (To be restarted)
--- SIGALRM (Alarm clock) ---
time(NULL) = 1014267833
rt_sigaction(SIGALRM, {SIG_IGN}, {0x4002fa10, [ALRM], SA_RESTART|0x400}, 8)

alarm(1)= 0
rt_sigaction(SIGALRM, {0x4002fa10, [ALRM], SA_RESTART|0x400}, {SIG_IGN}, 8)

sigreturn() = ? (mask now [])
read(3, 0x814a6b0, 4) = ? ERESTARTSYS (To be restarted)

Installation from MySQL's rpms should go clear. Are you sure you have
installed the MySQL distributive correctly (rpm --install..)?

Please tell us more about the problem appeared.

Upgrade Problem (Mysqlbug)

2002-01-10 Thread Mazur

I am trying to upgrade from mysql server v. 3.22.32 up to v. 3.23.47 on my RedHat6.2
box.

When I try rpm -Uhv MySQL. , I get::

Preparing...##[100%]
file /usr/bin/mysqlbug from install of MySQL-3.23.47-1 conflicts with file from package
MySQL-client-3.22.32-1

I thought maybe the upgrade went ok anyway, so I started the server with mysqld, and
connected
via my client successfully, but it says I have connected to server 3.22.32.

I saw in the docs that the 3.22.32 client should be able to connect to a 3.23.* server
just
fine. So I have done nothing with my client. I have not located anything in the mail
archives
with such a problem.

Any ideas on how to get around this problem and get the server upgraded?

Thanks,
Rob Mazur

p.s. I actually have this symptom on two RedHat6.2 machines...

Where is GCC installed?

Try using

  LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/lib

in your environment (or whatever path is appropriate).

It fixed it for me on Solaris 2.8 with GCC 2.95.3. There was a thread
about 1-2 weeks ago on the mailling list about it.

MySQLBug - Script mysql_install_db Empty

2001-07-19 Thread Wu, Steve

I am evaluating MySQL on a Solaris8 Intel machine, and followed your instruction for
the installation. I used GNU tar to unzip the files into
/usr/local/mysql-3.23.39-pc-solaris2.8-i386.

There was no error in the tar process of the downloaded file. However, in the

/usr/local/mysql-3.23.39-pc-solaris2.8-i386/scripts

directory, file mysql_install_db is present, but is ZERO byte.

What did I do wrong?

Thanks.

What about the version of the file which should be in
/usr/local/mysql-3.23.39-pc-solaris2.8-i386/bin ?? (which is the one you
should be running from the 'mysql' directory as ./bin/mysql_install_db )

In the next release the mysqld.exe will work on Win9x OS too.

I'm using Microsoft Windows 98 and the version of MySQL is 3.23.

I hope you can help as soon as possible.

Thank you.

http://www.mysql.com/doc/W/i/Windows_installation.html says this:

NOTE: If you want to use InnoDB tables, there are certain startup
options that must be specified in your `my.ini' file! See section
8.7.2 InnoDB startup options.

http://www.mysql.com/doc/I/n/InnoDB_start.html (section 8.7.2) discusses
some options you should try, to make the message you're seeing go away.

Maybe the is no such file or directory.
Or maybe you are not root when you execute the command.

Did you check that the directory exists?
Maybe this binary version puts it somewhere else.

try :
find / -name mysql -print

and see where it might be installed.

That is a binary tarball.
If you want to compile it, download the source.

Fw: mysqlbug Adding an index to a HEAP table breaks WHERE col LIKE 502-%

2001-04-03 Thread Jeff S Wheeler

Tried to post this to mailing.database.mysql, but earthlink's news servers
suck, and it seems the message got dropped. Bleh. Anyway..:

Below is a filled-out mysqlbug form. Indexes on HEAP tables are ignored in

first I've noticed where mysql actually _does_ use the index, and as a
result it produces wrong query results.

Description:
Adding an index to a HEAP table breaks WHERE col LIKE "502-%"

How-To-Repeat:
mysql SELECT COUNT(*) FROM t4 WHERE BillN LIKE "502-%"\G
*** 1. row ***
COUNT(*): 4378
1 row in set (0.03 sec)

mysql CREATE INDEX BillN ON t4 (BillN);
Query OK, 42854 rows affected (0.15 sec)

mysql SELECT COUNT(*) FROM t4 WHERE BillN LIKE "502-%"\G
*** 1. row ***
COUNT(*): 0
1 row in set (0.00 sec)

Fix:
Do not use indexes on HEAP tables. Of course, I really would like to
be able to use them, as I have a nasty LEFT JOIN that would be really
fast in comparison, if it wouldn't improperly return zero rows.

Hi!

Our manual specifies very clearly that indices in HEAP tables can be
used only for = and !=.

Therefore, for the case like above, you are better without it.

mysqlbug CREATE TEMPORARY TABLE ... TYPE=MERGE ...; fails

2001-03-18 Thread Jeff S Wheeler

You cannot create a temporary table as TYPE=MERGE. I have tried it using
both a temporary and a "normal" on-disk table in the UNION paramater without
success. This might be useful to, say, the guy who posted thread "Tuple
length Question" earlier today...:)

I'm sure you can duplicate this on any platform so I'm not going to bother
with actual mysqlbug output unless a MySQL A.B. person wishes me to do so.
This could easily end up being a documentation bug, with the fix to document
that it is not possible to create temporary merge tables. :)

mysqlbug may pick the wrong complier

Description:
The code that checks for cc may pick the "first" cc it finds in its path,

Ah this depends on finding the complier used for compling, maybe a makefile
