Re: [NetBehaviour] Uncanny valley

2024-04-03 Thread Alan Sondheim via NetBehaviour

I think it comes from virtual idols in Japan, Date Kyoko, Kyoko Date, 1996
- we have the original multi-media disk, Love Communication. I wrote an
article on her and virtual idols in general for an anthropological
magazine around that time, I think it was Etnofoor - something like that -
it was translated. It created a sense of unease re: the Japanese pop
scene.

As a concept though maybe it goes all the way back to Capek's play R.U.R.
or those 19th century images of steam engines as humanoid etc. and
probably back father, I think there might have been references in ancient
Greece?

Moloch! :-)

Best, Alan, a can of worms!

Hi Tina, it refers to humans and robots and the
  latter are increasingly
impossible to tell from the former; there's a
  "valley" which is occupied
by both human and robot - where they may overlap in
  the future - and where
it may be difficult to tell them apart. It's uncanny
  because it may be
machine or living tissue or both, and it can be an
  area of discomfort for
people, someone not knowing who or what they're
  talking to or confronting.

I started a Go Fund page to make the book translated into

[NetBehaviour] the healing of esoteric scratch erhu

2024-04-03 Thread Alan Sondheim via NetBehaviour

the healing of esoteric scratch erhu

https://youtu.be/LkjifBgRr0w video

eyes open
as of this night, azure sleeping, i awake i MUST play
quietly, the _scratch_ of the slow bow, bridge mute with folded
tissue, not an issue, this darkened, the slightest deviation
creates too much volume, this is tiptoe erhu to be sure, sound
sour sound of a worm for a robin, the sound of my breathing
sometimes difficult, i look - the very idea of a cure
problematic for what are the boundaries of the returning gray
sky, so this is the whispered calmness, the bow moved ever so
slowly across our my dull consciousness the waves, murmurs,
_music_ at the prior birth of language, of the language of Taut,
that \edge / after

eyes closed
that \edge / prior as of last night / i wish i hd something to
report, a night (better to report) of horros, unable to
function, to wake, to sleep, to do anything, neural debris
admixed with body plumbintg, things going wrong, things
stalling, lost in a sea of pain, . wish i had better to report.
if this is not long covid, what is, and what i read poiints to a
certain trial of everything and too many pathways and confused
information and often information generated by the suffers
themselves, i almost wrote patients, but caretaking seems
somewhat a troublesome thing other than lying around oh i did
that last night w/ the full horror of wakefulness going nowhere,
couldn't function, was gone before it came, hammers and anvils!
hammers and anvials! * in a momoent will try something on the
erhu to accompany this, haven't played it in a year or so,well
not that i can remember and i remember only the not-i and
(trrans)substantiation of the immicable.
