Thanks for pointing to Saitinac!

Wondering if anyone else has read the bizarre and funny stories of him
(Topor)

Apart from being his novel 'La Locataire' on which Polanski's movie is
based, I remember him from being one of the French connected to Boris Vian
and sideways to Serge Gainsbourg

In a long forgotten time of liberation of the arts, in the seventies that
was.

Helas nowadays the guys who were young then grew, old and blocked the
entrance to freedom for the new generation, so they are having bad luck
now.

It is a shame that a lot of governors both in art politics and in -- hmm
-- 'real' politics forgot their youth and developed an extreme suppressing
grip on society.

...and..yes...if you like that kind of art that's under Topor's influence

[NetBehaviour] [Fwd: Evil Iran hangs my friend Zahra Bahrami]

2011-01-30 Thread ajaco c/o bid
On behalve of Eddie woods
--Andreas Maria Jacobs

Dear Friends,

Early this morning the murderously barbaric Iranian regime hanged my friend,
and my friend Jane¹s friend, Zahra Bahrami. Her crime? To be in the wrong
place at the wrong time. Even though the (ugh!) Islamic Republic of Iran
would like for the world to believe otherwise. Zahra was 46 years old and a
dual Dutch-Iranian national. Only the Iranian government refused to
recognize her Dutch citizenship and therefore consistently denied Dutch
consular officials in Tehran any access to her. And today they killed her.

Zahra, formerly a student of Indian classical music at the Rotterdam
Conservatory and a professional belly dancer, had traveled to Iran more than
a year ago to be with her daughter, who was undergoing chemotherapy.
Foolishly perhaps, she (like thousands of others) participated in one of the
Ashura demonstrations that were held on December 27th 2009 to protest the
disputed presidential elections in June. Zahra, who has never belonged to
any political organization (contrary to another false claim being made by
the regime), was arrested and kept in solitary confinement until the moment
of her death. During the entire time she was repeatedly beaten and tortured.
And was once forced to make a public confession, which she later retracted.
A few months ago her Iranian lawyer, a lady well in the regime¹s sights for
handling other human-rights cases, was also imprisoned. While just the other
day the Dutch foreign ministry appointed two attorneys from the Netherlands
to Œrepresent¹ Zahra, a much-belated move that may well have sealed her
fate. For Zahra had first been tried and sentenced to die not on the
political charges (that trial was still meant to happen) but for possessing,
smuggling and selling narcotics. Drugs which had clearly been planted (as
though they would need to plant them: they could simply say she had them and
that would be that). Zahra did not even use drugs, any drugs, and was
certainly not a smuggler. But by trying her for this, the Iranian regime
hoped (successfully, it appears) to blindside Western governments, and the
Dutch in particular, as to their real motivations by saying this was all
part of a Œwar on drugs.¹

TEHRAN [says]...it is holding a Dutch-Iranian woman caught with drugs, state
news agency IRNA reported, after the Netherlands sought details about a dual
citizen reportedly on death row...
³One of the cases that Western countries use to pressure the Islamic
republic is the case of a woman named Zahra Bahrami, who holds European
passports as well as an Iranian passport,² Iranian foreign ministry
spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said, quoted by IRNA.
³(Bahrami) has been arrested by the police for carrying over 1kg of
narcotics,² Mr Mehmanparast said without elaborating on the sentence or her
nationality.
He dismissed foreign interference in the case, in comments apparently
aimed at the Netherlands which sought clarification...about a Dutch-Iranian
woman in her 40s reportedly sentenced to death.
³They are not allowed to interfere in our internal affairs and our
judiciary is quite independent,² said Mr Mehmanparast. AFP

And further: ³It is expected from the western countries to appreciate Iran's
efforts to combat drug trafficking and even cooperate accordingly,² he said.
³Unfortunately, however, we are witnessing their support for Zahra
Bahrami and they have even called for her release,² he added.
³The West should realize that if the issue of combating drug
trafficking is not taken seriously, it will directly affect their own youth
who will be entrapped by drug traffickers,² the Foreign Ministry spokesman
said. HSH/MMN

I have lived in Iran. And twice worked there as a journalist. That was when
the Shah was in charge. The same Shah who had a rather nasty secret police
force called SAVAK. (But hey, aren¹t all secret police everywhere nasty?
They damn sure are!) Yet unless you were actively involved in trying to
overthrow the Shah, SAVAK pretty much (well...) left you alone. The bastards
running the show in Iran nowadays don¹t leave anyone alone. They call
themselves Œmen of God¹ but they are evil through and through. Quite as the
Ayatollah Khomeini was evil. I shall write more about Iran and my extended
stays there in due course. And about the Shah. At present suffice it to say
that the power-wielding mullahs and their traitorous (to the Iranian people)
cohorts must go. As for how to get rid of them, I do not know. Except that
it must come from within. As it came from within in Tunisia and is coming
from within in Egypt. And hopefully will come from within in numerous other
nations ruled by equally brutal and corrupt regimes.

Capital punishment is abhorrent, period. And to say it is more abhorrent in
Zahra¹s case is missing the point. Zahra¹s case is a tragedy because she
never should have been arrested, should not have been imprisoned, ought not
to have been tortured, and certainly not

Dear list, have a look at 3 new IPhone Photograph's:

http://www.nictoglobe.com/new/room/New%20Room/ma20112.html

Apparently these works depict my own face, hidden in the dark corners of
our old and weary radio studio. Can it be that my face is as old and weary
as these pictures?

Is the self-image at the end of it's life cycle?

Is this exemplary for the state we're in?

Feeling as if Yamo is hitting me hard!

Be well!

[NetBehaviour] [AA2010] Ueber die Wahrheit - Virtual Sculpture

2011-01-20 Thread ajaco c/o bid
Dear list,

This is a sketch for a virtual sculpture I am working on:

'Finality'

http://burgerwaanzin.nl/udwpg.jpg

When possible I like to translate the virtual to the tangible, in doing so
the delusional benefits of the 'arts' in the unreal world of the Internet
will be broken and the remnants of the real world will again be visible.

I like to pose a question to the list in explaining to me why the Internet
should be a possible artistic, political, societal or whatever future?

Because I think these premises are awkwardly wrong and leading us away
from ourselves and the other. In accentuating the distantness of the
virtual , the connection with the World 'as it is'is slipping out of our
hands and into the realm of speculations, wishful thinking and other
insane consequences of which we are just in the middle.

I have followed and working in virtuality for over ten years now, and the
netto results are zero, nill, nada, my financial situation is horrible,
not ever have I succeeded in profiting from my virtual working.

My conclusion is that I will stop working in virtuality and embrace again
fullheartly the real ,concrete, tangible, material world

Welcome to the new world, it is still there

I am leaving Internet

Best

[NetBehaviour] Final Call: RECLAIM the MIND

2011-01-19 Thread ajaco c/o bid
Final Call:

RECLAIM the MIND
Call for Submissions
Deadline: January 31 2011
Friction Research Issue #4, Spring 2011

When the possibility of expressing social reform vanishes, time has
come to change our minds. [A.A. 2010]

Reclaim the Mind is a transmedial collaborative initiative exploring empty
spots in the human mind by:

- occupying the area between 'reality' and 'truth',
- re-using forgotten (collective) memory-spaces,
- connecting mental processes with physical spaces,
- rewriting, tearing apart, scratching and stretching our lived
environment in an effort to liberate our ursurpated sensibilities.

Reclaim the Mind reclaims the idiomatic resources, abused by the Creative
Industries and jeopardized by a majority of National Governments, and will
intentionally break separations between established cultural and political
domains.

Reclaim the Mind aims to protect the incomprehensible treasure of mankind,
threatened by:

Censorship, Territorization, Mapping, Propaganda, Misconduct, Betrayal,
Charlatanism, Mediocrity, Commercialized Education, Orthodoxy, Cultural
Lobotomization, Zombie State Politics

We invite artists, writers, academics to contribute to our call for works
by submitting works, which reflects upon 'Reclaiming the Mind', in a
broader sense, ranging from visuals, videos, musics, essays etc. to:

submissions2...@nictoglobe.com

or using our submission management system:

Submit

The following digital formats apply:

text: word, rtf, pdf or text - ca. 2000 words, abstracts ca. 500 words.

Not such wicked leaks
Umberto Eco
Not such wicked leaks 02 December 2010 Libération Paris

http://www.presseurop.eu/en/content/article/414871-not-such-wicked-leaks

For the celebrated novelist and intellectual Umberto Eco, the Wikileaks
affair or Cablegate not only shows up the hypocrisy that governs
relations between states, citizens and the press, but also presages a
return to more archaic forms of communication.

The WikiLeaks affair has twofold value. On the one hand, it turns out to
be a bogus scandal, a scandal that only appears to be a scandal against
the backdrop of the hypocrisy governing relations between the state, the
citizenry and the press. On the other hand, it heralds a sea change in
international communication – and prefigures a regressive future of
“crabwise” progress.

But let’s take it one step at a time. First off, the WikiLeaks confirm the
fact that every file put together by a secret service (of any nation you
like) is exclusively made up of press clippings. The “extraordinary”
American revelations about Berlusconi’s sex habits merely relay what could
already be read for months in any newspaper (except those owned by
Berlusconi himself, needless to say), and the sinister caricature of
Gaddafi has long been the stuff of cabaret farce. Embassies have morphed
into espionage centres ...

Fascisme een beschavingsvorm?
Judith V. aka The Frontline Princess

bewustzijn.

Italy: Senate, airport, train stations to be occupied
Stop the Country, take back the Future!

Italy - Senate, airport, train stations, cities: students have stopped the
country fighting education reform and the cuts to education!

These are very intense days in Italy: final cuts to the university has
created a huge mobilization all over the country. Tens of universities,
more than 200 schools and even more colleges are going to be occupied this
night: if Parliament is going to approve the education Reform, students
will go on occupying everything. An entire generation is rebelling against
the destruction of the university and the dismantling of research. [...]

[NetBehaviour] [La Resocialista Internacional] Looking for translators

2010-12-12 Thread ajaco c/o bid

Hi list

I am looking for translators

english to spanish
english to portugese
english to hindi
english to russian
english to chinese

Should be willing to translate the following poem:

--
Judith's Dream 2004
--
Light falls haphazardly within the
area, the field, on which still
rolls the two years old lie,
indicating me .

Police stops the film of the
assassinated man with force.
He sings and scratches naked with
a microphone on the podium.

Pale, vulnerably the body sings.
A song. Words which fry.

The female police officer watches
the sinner on the screen,
glad about the corpse sitting small
and twisted in her pocket

The staircase where he savagely
threw it off. Hands over to power,
but did not thrashed.

The fact that it are our corpses,
turns us into assassins of our
collapsing bodies.

The festival. Two years of suffering.
A battlefield of stimulants

Last night. I am shy.

---

The translated texts will appear on La Resocialista Internacional

http://burgerwaanzin.nl

and exhibited at several venues worlwide (hopefully!)

Credits are giving, sorry I have no financial means to pay you, but honour
will be given and praise will be expressed!

'We' should learn from history, but unfortunately only a few actually do

So the metrics are positioned with a decline in consciousness, roughly
inverse proportional to the suffering, visible by the peaks during ww1
ww2 and go steadily downwards in the years thereafter

This serves as a kind of 'Awareness Datagram'

[NetBehaviour] [Nictoglobe] Two new essays

November 15, 2010
The Essence Of Neoliberalism
Pierre Bourdieu (†2001)
(Former) Professor at the Collège de France

As the dominant discourse would have it, the economic world is a pure and
perfect order, implacably unrolling the logic of its predictable
consequences, and prompt to repress all violations by the sanctions that
it inflicts, either automatically or — more unusually — through the
intermediary of its armed extensions, the International Monetary Fund
(IMF) and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD)
and the policies they impose: reducing labour costs, reducing public
expenditures and making work more flexible. Is the dominant discourse
right? What if, in reality, this economic order were no more than the
implementation of a utopia — the utopia of neoliberalism — thus converted
into a political problem? One that, with the aid of the economic theory
that it proclaims, succeeds in conceiving of itself as the scientific
description of reality? [...]

The Machine in the Ghost / Static Trapped in Mouths (2010)
Essay by Curt Cloninger

Image: Giotto Raising of Lazarus (1305)

This essay applies Mikhail Bakhtin's language theory of the utterance to
the machinic event of the glitch in order to illuminate contemporary
glitch art practices, and to suggest fruitful ways in which they might
proceed. I understand the glitch to be an affective event generated by a
media machine (computer, projector, game console, LCD screen, etc.)
running in real-time, an event which creates an artifact that colors and
modulates any signal or content being sent via that machine. In 1962,
John Glenn famously defined glitch as a spike or change in voltage in
an electrical current.1 Glitch has since come to demarcate a set of
audio/visual artistic practices which capture, exploit, and produce glitch
artifacts[...]

Hi Martin et al.

What do you think of the accesibility of the following (art)website:

?

I purposely disrupt the readability of the constituent texts as part of
the artistic process.

I do not think that is riduculous or insulting for visible impaired persons.

Or should I not do that, considering the possibility that a visible
impaired has a look.

So I put a textbox in braille!!

Not for the visible impaired!

Would that ease your mind?

Has anyone thought of the visual consequences for visually impaired
people, blue type on such a yellow background is very difficult for me to
read, daft as the previous grey background. Think of of disability web
standards they do exist, for an artists/creatives email site to display
such behaviour is ridiculous, please have plain white background with

Elitist Bollocks

It renders the following text in UTF8 Braille:

[C][H][R][IS][TU][IS][T]
Crisis, Reaction, and the State's re-presentational responsibilities
towards its Civilians (w!t!f! [red.])

de-nominations:

demented ghost-bodies printing their impressions upon that layer in

Thanks Martin for the inspriration

Andreas

Interesting full on eyeball visuals, different to simply reading emails.

As for Andreas sounds like elitist bollocks.

I thought that professionalism is another (bad) example of the reign of
(neo)liberalism, aka capitalism.

During feodal times there were workers (craftsmen), rulers and slaves.

In modern capitalism there are corporate rulers, corporate slaves,
academic rulers, academic slaves, art rulers, art slaves and free women
and men, of which a few are also artists.

A reading recommendation: The Social History of Art by Arnold Hauser
(1968), an underesteemed piece of cultural analysis heavely influenced by
the thoughts of the Frankfurter Schule. Althought nearly 40 years old
still valuable reading!

[NetBehaviour] Sobornost, or the precursors of anti neo liberalism from the dreaded communists before modern history was build by western intellectuals

2010-10-21 Thread ajaco c/o bid
Sobornost

Sobornost (Russian:
#1057;#1086;#1073;#1086;#769;#1088;#1085;#1086;#1089;#1090;#1100;
Spiritual community of many jointly living people)[1] is a term coined
by the early Slavophiles, Ivan Kireevsky and Aleksey Khomyakov, to
underline the need for cooperation between people at the expense of
individualism on the basis that the opposing groups focus on what is
common between them. Khomyakov believed the West was progressively losing
its unity. According to Khomyakov this stemmed from the west embracing
Aristotle and his defining individualism; whereas Kireevsky believed that
Hegel and Aristotle represented the same ideal of Khomyakov and Kireevsky
originally used the term sobornost to designate cooperation within the
Russian obshchina, united by a set of common convictions and Orthodox
Christian values, as opposed to the cult of individualism in the West.

As a philosophical term, it was used by Nikolai Lossky and other 20th
century Russian thinkers to refer to a middle way of co-operation between
several opposing ideas. This was based on Hegel's dialectic
triad—thesis, antithesis, synthesis—though, in Russian philosophy, it
would be considered an oversimplification of Hegel. It influenced both
Khomyakov and Kireevsky, who expressed the idea as organic or spontaneous
order.

The synthesis is the point where sobornost is reached causing change.
Hegel's formula is the basis for Historicism. Nikolai Lossky for example
uses the term to explain what motive would be behind people working
together for a common, historical or social goal, rather than pursuing the
goal individualistically. Lossky used it almost as a mechanical term to
define when the dichotomy or duality of a conflict is transcended or how
it is transcended, likening it to the final by product after Plato's
Metaxy.[2].

Kireevsky asserted that the sum total of all Christians of all ages, past
and present, comprise one indivisible, eternal living assembly of the
faithful, held together just as much by the unity of consciousness as
through the communion of prayer.[3] The term in general means the unity,
togetherness that is the church, based on individual like-minded interest.

Starting with Vladimir Soloviev, sobornost was regarded as the basis for
the ecumenical movement within the Russian Orthodox Church. Sergei
Bulgakov, Nikolai Berdyaev, Pavel Florensky were notable proponents for
the spirit of sobornost between different Christian factions. The

RECLAIM the MIND
Call for Submissions
Friction Research Isssue #4, Spring 2011

When the possibility of expressing social reform vanishes, time has
come to change our 'Minds'

Reclaim the Mind is a transmedial collaborative initiative exploring empty
spots in the human mind by:

- occupying the area between 'reality' and 'truth',
- re-using forgotten (collective) memory-spaces,
- connecting mental processes with fysical spaces,
- rewriting, tearing apart, scratching and stretching our lived
environment in an effort to liberate our ursurpated sensibilities.

Reclaim the Mind reclaims the idiomatic resources, currently abused by the
'Creative Industries' and jeopardized by a majority of 'National
Governments', and will intentionally break seperations between established
cultural and political domains.

Reclaim the Mind aims to protect the incomprehensible treasure of mankind,
threatened by:

Censorship, Territorization, Mapping, Propaganda, Misconduct, Betrayal,
Charlatanism, Occultism, Education, Orthodoxy, Cultural Lobotomization,
Politics

We invite artists, writers, academics to contribute to our call for works
by submitting works, which reflects upon 'Reclaiming the Mind', in a
broader sense, ranging from visuals, videos, musics, essays etc. to:

submissions2...@nictoglobe.com

The following digital formats apply:

text: word, rtf, pdf or text - no more than 2000 words, abstracts about
500 words.
images: jpg, png, gif - any size/format
video: mov, mpg - duration: no more than 2 minutes.
audio: wav, mp3 - duration: no more than 5 minutes.

Feel free to adorn your submission.

Submissions will be published in the Spring 2011 issue of Nictoglobe

Hi All,

Arts is functioning nowadays more and more as an socio-economical
interface between content-containers and content-receptors whether human,
animal, industrial, immaterial or material.

That is, art tends to function in a broader and deeper connecting sense on
different aspects of society.

The complexity of life logically extends itself to the realm of everyday
life which is as complex or as simple as it appears for the senses.

The thumb or blind will not be able, literally and metaphorically, to
‘hear’ or ‘see’, what someone else is experiencing as an ethical or
aesthetical quality.

Just reminded me when reading the post below.

Andreas Maria Jacobs

 Hi chun,
 marc
 and all others ...

Im also mentor of one workshop in 2010.playaround. I picked up the
conversation in the mailman archive. First we didnt made a scientific
 research by choosing this subtitle.

i did a quick research about the origin of the term Do It With Others
yes there was an exhibition in january 2007 with that titel organized by
furtherfield. Of course doing with others is used in different other
contexts. Found also a text of Hartley from 2003 rephrased in 2008.
 http://www.cultural-science.org/journal/index.php/culturalscience/article/view/1/6
Hartfiled is writing 1999 179-181 about DIY (have to check this source
he is mentioning there Do It With Others)

But when im thinking about particular term doing of course i would
like to give the merits John Dewey.
 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Dewey
He put it into our minds, that we learn best by doing.

personaly i like to read now his Aesthetics. See small wikipedia snippet
 below.

 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Art_as_Experience
 ...
Art as Experience (1934) is Dewey's major writing on aesthetics. It is,
according to his place in the Pragmatist tradition that emphasizes
community, a study of the individual art object as embedded in (and
inextricable from) the experiences of a local culture. See his
Experience and Nature for an extended discussion of 'Experience' in
 Dewey's philosophy.
 ...

I think what we like to achieve in our playaround workshop is good
described with the subtitel do it with others because its not about
learning skills or producing artzy fancy techno gadgets.

 so far
 greets
 kiilo

 Hi Annie,

yes, I will write to them.

I do find it surprising that they have not contacted us, especially
knowing that they have been influenced in some way, to use DIWO in a
 similar context.

I am wondering if there is anyone on this list who know these people, or

Just typing diwo furtherfield, or even 'DIWO' on its own in search
