Pages now loading like lightning, and it looks as if the problem reported my me as bug 0002274 has been solved too. Best wishes, Peter. -- Peter Young (zfc Os) and family Prestbury, Cheltenham, Glos. even Wikipedia times out now
It seems that Netsurf now times out even for Wikipedia. Try this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fritzing Hourglass goes on forever, though it least it does not tie up the whole machine. Go to Netsurf iconbar choices, Content, Disable Javascript, and try the Wikipedia page again. Now it loads no problem. (Netsurf #2964 on Iyonix with Ro 5.18) Anybody else see the same behaviour? I notice that the Choices file (which results from changing something in the Netsurf configuration) no longer stores the Javascript setting -- it's on by default, and that's that. I'm pretty sure that in the past, the Choices file contained a line enable_javascript:1 (or 0). If I'm right, when did this change take place? What's the reasoning? It would sure be handy to have a keyboard shortcut to switch Javascript on and off! -- Jim Nagelwww.archivemag.co.uk || See you at the show? www.riscoslondonshow.co.uk October 24
Re: even Wikipedia times out now
I was about to make the same point as Jim -- seems the JS setting isn't stored in the latest Netsurf so you have to remember to switch off manually every time you start up via Choices > Content > Disable JS. Netsurf gang: is this an oversight? Can it be put back in the next update please? thanks Chris. -- Chris On 1 Oct 2015 Jim Nagel [mailto: nets...@abbeypress.co.uk] wrote: > It seems that Netsurf now times out even for Wikipedia. > Try this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fritzing > Hourglass goes on forever, though it least it does not tie up the > whole machine. > Go to Netsurf iconbar choices, Content, Disable Javascript, > and try the Wikipedia page again. Yes, with several sites as well as Wikipedia; this is on an ARM6, RISC OS 5.23, and with several of the latest development builds. I thought it was something wrong with my setup, but a lot of others seem to have the same problem. A few vague pointers, perhaps: When NetSurf says "Loading, processing" the LED on the ADSL modem only flashes intermittently, instead of the normal frenzied flashing at this stage. My home page is www.bbc.co.uk/news and this always loads promptly when I start NetSurf, as does http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/gl52 which is often the second page I go to. I have a strong impression that the delayed loading happens more often if I click on a URL from outside NetSurf, for instance from an e-mail or from a URL stored in NeXTBar (apologies to Jim for the camel-caps). When this happens, if I stop the attempt at loading, and then press Enter in the URL bar, the page often loads promptly. No idea of the significance of these; perhaps someone can see if any of it makes sense? > I notice that the Choices file (which results from changing something > in the Netsurf configuration) no longer stores the Javascript setting > -- it's on by default, and that's that. However, I think this has already been discussed with the developers (may their tribe increase!) and I think it would be difficult to do.
