The worst [most embarrassing] was two years ago. I just took the bike out of storage and got it all fired up. I took it to work on Monday. I got out of work and walked up to the bike only to realize that not only A) the Key was left in the bike ALL DAY but also B) it was left in Accessory ALL DAY. I think I was too excited about having it out again and I forgot what I was doing... :( So I had to get a jump. I let it warm up for a bit at high enough RPMs so that it was charging, then started home. I made it a few blocks, but it died when shifting to Neutral at a stop when I wasn't fast enough to hit N and then get back on the throttle. :( It wouldn't start from popping the clutch since it was still too dead, so I needed a SECOND jump start :( ... and another time, with another bike... and car... I almost had a double whammy... My wife and I have a NHX110 aka Honda Elite 110 scooter. I was sent to California for what was supposed to be 6 months on assignment for work. It ended up being 1 year. The Scooter was left in the garage back in Wisconsin. I had my car in California with me. It had the Optima Yellow Top AGM battery. I didn't end up driving my car for about 1-2 months before I left, so I needed to jump it and drive it around for a day or two before leaving to drive back to Wisconsin. Somewhere about Utah, I noticed a strange sulfur smell, but didn't think too much of it. Five days later, I rolled into the parking lot at my apartment. After walking around the apartment for a few minutes, I went to re-park my car. The battery was shot. I somehow managed a 2,000 mile trip only to have the battery die right after delivering me home. *Phew* BUT I was still stranded by myself without a car (wife was still out of town); and I didn't have a charger. Luckily, I had the Scooter in the garage. I went over to the scooter, but was saddened by the fact that the key was in the ignition, and it was set to Seat which is how to pop open the storage under the seat. It had sat for an entire year off the charger like this... I crossed my fingers, twisted the key over to Start and pressed the Crank button. It fired to life! Wahoo!! So then I was able to go and purchase a charger. I let it charge overnight, but the battery was still dead. So I scooted off and got a new battery. Moral of this story - if you have a Yellow top or other similar battery, don't charge them too quickly. Charge them the way the manual states - slow and steady. Otherwise they will go bad and waste your $160 investment. Oh fun! - James On Mar 30, 2015, at 13:30 PM, mark.wf...@gmail.com wrote: OK, so you have not done that at least half a dozen times yet? Hi surfswab, thanks for the reply. I've already used CMS for the forward controls we needed but they don't have the exhaust system in stock and seemingly want £1500 for it new which is a little more than I'd hoped to pay. But with the purchase of my latest GL1500 (which doesn't HAVE a petcock) I decided to just set a Google Reminder in my phone to start the motor every four weeks and let it run enough to recycle the fuel in the carps. I dumped a whole can of Sea Foam in and filled the gas tank all the way. Then plugged in my battery tender and said, Okay Google, set a reminder for 1 month from today. And that was it!! How simple. After an oil change and good wash and scrub today was FINALLY my maiden voyage of the Spring (even though the weather has been VERY nice for some time) and the bike ran AMAZINGLY well. NO coughs, no sputters...just easy and smooth, just like it's supposed to.
