Not to criticize your plans for the mod, but scrapping the original air intake system is not a good idea from the standpoint of reliability. The Honda air box systems are designed for optimum delivery of constant, consistent delivery of volume to multiple carbs. Pods interrupt that flow and are troublesome and fiddly at best. If your goal is increased performance, best to experiment with rejetting the carbs themselves. [Nighthawk Lovers] Clutch/low gears rattling?
I was out for a drive last night and had some unsettling sounds coming from my bike. When I go from higher gears to low, at stoplights and whatnot, I can hear some clacking and one time it was shaking bad enough to scare me into cutting it off and checking the oil...At one point it didn't want to go into first gear. I would say I heard this clacking sound about have the time I came to a rolling stop. It happens with the clutch disengaged. What is going on? Note: the day before yesterday I turned my idle screw up/in because it was shutting off at the stoplights. I turned it many (maybe 6) times and it only changed the RPM a little bit, but last night it was suddenly idling way too high and I had to turn it down. I don't know yet if that fixed the above problem because I turned into home a couple minutes later. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Nighthawk Motorcycle Lovers! group. Re: [Nighthawk Lovers] Clutch/low gears rattling?
If the carbs are dirty enough messing with the idle screw will need to be done when cold and then again once it warms up. As for the clacking I'd suspect the clutch. The cork friction material turns into linoleum after 30 years then starts cracking and falling apart. Investigate the issue before riding more you don't want to get in a situation where you can't disengage the clutch. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Nighthawk Motorcycle Lovers! group. [Nighthawk Lovers] Brake master cylinder body on 85 450 punctured. Fixable? Anyone willing to sell a replacement?
The window on my 1985 CB450SC Nighthawk's brake master cylinder body (the main reservoir) took what appears to have been a pebble, and now has a small hole. I'm not sure when it happened, but it was parked for a week and when I went to ride, I had no brakes and you could see fluid had leaked out from the hole. I'm curious if this is fixable, and if not, is anyone willing to sell me a replacement reservoir? Below are photos of the damage and the schematic. https://carousel.dropbox.com/photos/cc/1mYXA6Zx3A40W61 Thanks, -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Nighthawk Motorcycle Lovers! group.
