Yes, the HONDALINE crash bars were chrome (don't know if I've seen them in
black, but would think they would have been offered in both, just like the
rear luggage racks were offered in black or chrome.

starter chain (or possibly the starter clutch). The job is very
difficult, and the parts are NOT available!...The bike looks like a turd,a
nd I'd stay away from it unless you pout a starter in it, and it cranks
properly.

Hi Mark,

Yes, all my bikes; I actually still have 42 Nighthawk 700-S bikes (I have a
problem), but I did sell 2 of them this past summer.I have a Facebook
page called "Joes Honda Nighthawk-S cb700sc" which has pics of some of the
bikes, as well as some of the parts.

The velocity stacks are just for looks, and mount with a plastic clip to
the small hole under the carb boot.Take a closer look at the side of
your right pipe, and I believe you will see it is slightly flat from a
scrape, and has been touched up with some gloss black paint ( I could see
the flat spot on the pics you just posted); pretty common, and not a big
deal. The front head pipes on your bike are MUCH cleaner than most out
there!
Let me know what you see, and if you have any other questions.

Hi Mark,

Great bike, and great purchase!.congrats! The price you paid was a
very good deal!...I have seen mint/low mile versions of the RWB sell for
5-6g The bike is in great shape for having 30k miles on it!

I saw where it had been down on the right side (scrape on the muffler); was
there any other damage from being down (usually a also scraped on the
faring corners)? The seat has been re-done, and the mirrors are not
OE,If you did not get the carb "velocity stacks", you can find those on
Ebay from time to time (usually the chrome ones are on there, but they can
be painted gloss black to match what would have been on the '86
bikes)..still a good example of one of these bikes; they are getting
harder and harder to find!

Not trying to rain on his parade, but again, no one has ever seen any proof
this guy had these bikes...And, when asked, there has always been a reason
they weren't available, around, and no pictures or poof of any part of the
story.

If you were a guy who collected Nighthawk-S bikes, wouldn't you have a
picture of them, or at least ONE of them?I got my first Nighthawk in
the late '80's, and I have pictures of it, and of many/most of the others
since then.I'm not saying this guy is a liar, just want to know if
anyone can visually verify this story I've been hearing, as no actual proof
has ever been offered, just a story from a guy, who says he collected them.

Re: [Nighthawk Lovers] SERIOUSLY COOL! New-in-the-crate Honda CBX!

2017-11-21 Thread 'MOPARJOE' via Nighthawk Motorcycle Lovers!
I've heard this story about the guy that had a few 700-S bikes still in the
crate, several timesI've also talked with "said" person on the phone a
few/5 years ago, and he told me there was "no way" I could own over 40
700-S bikes (not sure why he thought that??)He also said he had about
10 Nighthawk-S bikes at one time, and a few of them (don't remember exact
number) were still in the shipping crates.

Recently (in the last few months), I had another guy contact me about my
bikes, and tell me he use to have a few 700-S bikes in the crates, but sold
them; he didn't seem to remember talking to me 5 years ago, and I can't
remember if it was the same name, or the same guy.

I asked the person back then, and also the person a few months ago, to send
me pictures of these crated Nighthawk-S bikesI've STILL never heard
back from these people, nor have I ever seen pictures of the famed crate
bikes..

Has anyone ever seen them in person, and verify if this story was ever true?

Matt,

I thought they were pretty reasonably priced, considering what was involved
in making them
They worked on the decals (with my help) for several months, trying to get
the colors "correct", as well as shapes/sizes, pin stripes, and
"reflective" characteristics. He also told me they use only top quality
(I believe 3M) paper. and in some cases had to layer 2 different
translucent colors to create a color
I would think if it had been easy to do, they would have done it in a
couple days

Both correct; the blue and red on the '84 and '85 are decals, and the only
paint color is blackThe '86 used a blue base on the bosdy panels
("candy allucian blue"),a nd decals for the red/white portion of the
colorsThe red/orange/black '86 used black base coat, and decals were
the orange/red colors.

The other place to buy reproduction decals is on Ebay, and link is
below.These people (yamatopdog
) used a bunch
of my NOS parts, and reproduced the colors as close as the could get them
(we worked on it for months)They look REALLY good if/when replacing all
the decals on the bike, but are slightly noticeable if you only do one
panel.

[Nighthawk Lovers] Re: OEM luggage for 700S

2017-07-31 Thread 'MOPARJOE' via Nighthawk Motorcycle Lovers!
My "two cents" worth.

I always wondered why Honda even made a chrome rack for the Nighthawk-S,
when all the trim on the bike is gloss black (yes, I know they also sold am
gloss black one). Most of my racks are already gloss black, but I've
also taken a chrome one, and had it powder coated gloss black, so it
matched the bike better.I actually like the lines/look of the bike
without the rack, and without the factory (or any) luggage on it, but have
2 bikes with the factory "HondaLine" luggage (I can't have all 42 bikes
looking the same).

[Nighthawk Lovers] Re: Any idea what paint color will come close to the blue on an 82 650 side covers ???

2017-04-21 Thread 'MOPARJOE' via Nighthawk Motorcycle Lovers!
The color on the (blue) '82 Nighthawk is called "candy allucian
blue".it may be the same color used on the '86 RWB 700-S

If you have the paint "matched" at an Auto paint store, most of those
places have the ability to put the paint into an aerosol can (call them
first)The color they match it to will most likely not match
perfectly..I used the auto paint store for base coats to get the parts
close to the right color, and my top/last coat was from a spray can I
bought from a place that sells "factory matched/correct" Honda
colors.(I don't remember the name of the place, and I'm not at home to
look at the cans).

Any paint you put on the parts is suppose to be clear coated (automotive
clear, with hardener) to make them correct, and more durable to chemicals,
scratches, and use.

2015-02-13 Thread 'MOPARJOE' via Nighthawk Motorcycle Lovers!
My first bike was the same bike (blue version). It had 6K miles when I
bought it in '85...I had it for over 20 years, but the charging system went
out on mine also (it was the stator)I got a stator from a used
bike/parts dealer in Vegas, and then had my bike fixedI never rode the
bike after it was fixed, as it was stolen from the garage of the guy who
fixed itWe never found the bike; it had only12K miles when it was
stolen in 2007...

I miss the bike, but never rode it much, as I had gotten into the
Nighthawk-S bikes, which I have been collecting for many years now.

[Nighthawk Lovers] Re: 1985 700s nighthawk factory decals

2014-07-04 Thread 'MOPARJOE' via Nighthawk Motorcycle Lovers!
The link provided to YAMATOPDOGon Ebay, is the best place to get decals
from.

This is the place that reproduced all the decals for the 700-S (all years
and all colors) using what was left of my original NOS pieces/parts after
the fire I had.I had this done because the decals from CB DECALS were
not close/correct enough for my liking, and I wanted as close to
perfect/original as I could get.

None of the decals out there are perfect, but Yamatopdog got them closer
than the others. They didn't get the blue colors quite correct, as said he
couldn't get the correct shade of either year (the blue is actually
different between the '84 and the '85), so I believe he made a combined
color, and uses that on ecc of those 2 years/applications.

I've spoke with him several times in the last few years, and he says he's
has TONS of success with the decals, and TONS of compliments on them.

Hope this helps.
Joe
