Re: [NTG-context] ConTeXt on Excursion: translations in the Garden

2007-05-09 Thread Aditya Mahajan
Hi Vit,

Any specific reasons why Chapter 12 of the old manual describing
\setupparagraphs was removed. I understand that the same result can be
achieved by tabulate, but I am just wondering what was the rantionale
behind removing paragraphs.

On Tue, 8 May 2007, Vit Zyka wrote:

Sources of all three versions are stored on the public SVN repository as
a part of the ConTeXt manual project
 (https://foundry.supelec.fr/projects/contextman/), administrated by
Taco. There is a makefile for an easy manual generation. It is ready for
adding new stuff/actualizing/fixing bugs and even for new language
translation. On the Garden page we can find breaf instructions for that.
If you have any question, please do not hesitate to ask me.

Does that mean that I can change some parts of the manual (I had some
comments on the wiki page for corrections). How do you plan to keep
the changes syncronous across translations?

[NTG-context] short last line

2007-05-09 Thread Steffen Wolfrum
Hi,

looking for a solution to avoid short snippets in a paragraph's last line I
found lefthyphenmin/righthyphenmin.
But as this affects all hyphenations it is not useful.

Is there also a command that only cares for the last line of a paragraph,
controlling that this last line should consist of e.g. at least 5 characters
(all in all, or at least righthyphenmin 4 characters)?

If it will be considered interesting I can translate it to English.

Yes, it seems to be what I was looking for.

At least on my testfiles the result is very nice.
Now comes debugging / checking what negative side-effects \parfillskip 0pt
plus .6\hsize can have in real life (footnotes, tables etc.) ...

Any traps known?

Some other updates would help. For example I tried to turn a newbie on
to Context and pointed him to Excursion. He tried to run a test
program using the command:
context myfile
as given in the manual on page 5 and got a bad result. That command
doesn't work any more. So he gave up on Context and turned to LaTeX
instead.

I typeset music using mup available for about $29 USD at
www.arkkra.com. The support from the authors is excellent and free
updates occur once a year. I suppose it would be possible to embed a
mup document source code in a tex document, write it to a file, and
hte import the resulting ps file. But I use it as a pure stand alone
creator. BTW it also will create a midi file from the same source.

[NTG-context] large greek (math) font?

2007-05-09 Thread Michael

Hi, I'm trying to make slides in ConTeXt and needs larger font size.

However, in this example, the Phi is not showing up (works with 12/14pt)

\setupbodyfont[20pt]

\starttext

This is a greek letter $\Phi$

\stoptext

How can I get around that?

I also wanted to use sans font and found that modules amsl apparently resets
the font to rm.

Thanks,

Michael

Did I use the term pseudo small caps incorrectly? I assumed that the
version I generated is pseudo because it wasn't expressly designed.
That's also how the term is used in the wiki
 (http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Pseudo_Small_Caps). But there is
 also the
possibility of \cap{}, which simply generates smaller but otherwise
normal upper case letters, and which consequently are embedded. Are
 they
 both pseudo?

Only originally designed small caps are real, all automatically
generated (regardless of the mechanics) are pseudo.

(the module works only with LilyPond 2.8, as mentioned on the wiki
page)

You've always ’ instead of ' -- that can't work!
We need code, not typography!

I'm not completely sure, but I think the \trills should be attached
to the previous note.

cis b a | b dis e gis cis, b |
a e’ dis fis b, a | gis4 \trill r8

\stoplilypond

\stoptext

Probably you will experience further problems as soon as you use more
than one LilyPond snippet - at the moment the Ruby texexec doesn't
process more than one, the old Perl texexec does, though.

Aditya is hunting the bug (I hope).

Please find attached my latest version of t-lilypond (has some more
options).

BTW I always check my LilyPond code with LilyPond first - the call
via ConTeXt is far too slow for debugging!
And you wouldn't blame ConTeXt or the poor module for your errorneous
LP code.

Re: [NTG-context] ConTeXt on Excursion: translations in the Garden

2007-05-09 Thread Zhichu Chen

Hi Taco,

I've registered the project to translate it into Chinese. Anyhow, I have
some questions now:
1, I'm using WinXP, so I downloaded gnu make and other core files for
windows from gnuwin32.sourceforge.net. I don't know if it will work well.
But I think I can compile it manually.
2, When I run make en or manually compile ma-cb-en, I got an error that
\secretsetup is undefined. I think my ConTeXt is new enough:
ConTeXt ver: 2007.04.17 12:51 MKII fmt: 2007.4.20 int: english/english
3, I've never used svn before, so I'm afraid if I upload my source to the
svn server, would it harm other files? I only made change to makefile and
create a folder called cn (for Chinese).

Hi all,

there is a new plant in the Garden:
http://wiki.contextgarden.net/ConTeXt_on_Excursion%2C_translations

It gathers translations of the beginner's manual ConTeXt on Excursion
(authors Ton Otten and Hans Hagen). Currently there exist Dutch,
English, and Czech versions. Czech version is a team work of translators
(Ján Buša, Jiří Hrbek, Martina Plachá, Petr Tesařík, and Vít Zýka)
supported by Czechoslovac TUG (CSTUG). We use as a model the English
version (although the original is the Dutch one). A reader can find
several additional sections dealing with localization and information
sources.

Non Czech readers have also some benefic as a side effect of this
project. The English version was slightly actualized and fixed some
bugs. All versions are acompanied by actual macro syntax and listed in
the command index.

Sources of all three versions are stored on the public SVN repository as
a part of the ConTeXt manual project
(https://foundry.supelec.fr/projects/contextman/), administrated by
Taco. There is a makefile for an easy manual generation. It is ready for
adding new stuff/actualizing/fixing bugs and even for new language
translation. On the Garden page we can find breaf instructions for that.
If you have any question, please do not hesitate to ask me.

Best reading
Vit

 ConTeXt ver: 2007.04.17 12:51 MKII fmt: 2007.4.20 int: english/english

It has nothing to do with your system's ConTeXt; it's defined in
t-setup.tex in the contextman directory, but it can't be found because
the compilation takes place in some subdirectory (like en/). You can work
around it but setting TEXINPUTS to the appropriate location (with a
trailing colon! Don't forget the colon.), although I'm not sure how it
works under Windows.

It should probably be set in the Makefile anyway.

3, I've never used svn before, so I'm afraid if I upload my source to the

I think it shouldn't, but I leave the details of the commit for others
to explain. Please do it first so that I can make the necessary changes
for French ;-)

In any case, please please please consider using the letters “zh”
which is the code for the Chinese language, and not for the country,
China. It's bad enough that ConTeXt tags British English with the
international code for Ukrainian ... ;-)

Hi Arthur,

Thanks for you explanation, suggestion and encouragement. I hope you'll
finish your translation soon too. (I'm so solecistic that I can't speak
French :( )

I'm trying to find where to set the username and password in TortoiseSVN, so
you may need to wait a little more.
