Re: [Nuke-users] Nuke Stack Exchange Proposal

2016-03-01 Thread Aurélyen Daudet
Thanks for your humor Frank ; )

I'm agree, mailing lists were (are) really fine and were (are ) properly
working.
In my opinion the change to the forum is a pure marketing thing.
Go to the website, be polluted by adverts and announcements, watch the
community Gallery... etc.
Instead of clear and really efficient way to share and gain experience and
knowledge.
(I'm not really keen on marketing-driven decisions)

Adding a Stack Exchange-like site would be an other fragmentation of
knowledge and places
to ask / get information. (Even if I find these kind of sites really
effective.)
So I don't think it would be a good idea to have a Nuke specific SE site.

But, as it is suggested in the Area 51 having a Compositing SE to ask
questions could be better.
Fusion, Natron, Toxik (don't laugh..) are node based and share some
technics.
Maybe we'll see challengers come in next years.

Cheers.

[Nuke-users] Sampling colors from custom layers

2016-03-01 Thread Simon Björk
I have a few gizmos where I sample color data from a user defined layer. I
haven't used them as much in the last years but every time I do I'm having
trouble to do the sampling (classic Nuke sampling black instead). If I
recall correctly this used to work without any problem in previous versions
(6-7). But I'm not completely sure about that.

I have been doing this by having the main stream just pass through the
node, and then in a separate stream (no output) I shuffle the selected
layer to rgb and then use a normal color knob to do the sampling. With this
setup I'm able to have the viewer connected to the node (viewing rgb) and
then by ctrl+alt sampling from the selected layer. See an example setup here
.

In the attached example it seems to work as expected. But I'm seeing lots
of glitches when using this in other scenarios like sampling the Position
output from a 3D scene setup. Sometimes it works though.

Is there a better way to sample a custom layer? I still want to use normal
rgb knobs to do the sampling. I tried having the sampling in the main
stream and then copy back the rgb after the sample but with the same
results.

/Simon
