Re: [Ohrrpgce] FMF Update Dem

Okay! I've abused my .htaccess powers again to create
a Java Web Start demo; this is leaps and bounds above
the applet ---even though it's STILL an applet. Figure
that one out. Or, click on:

(Note that the link from the main page now points
here.)

Adam, Kiz, and Bob, could I ask you to test this link
for me?

I've tested this on four computers. All will load the
program. One won't load any games. I have no clue why.
But I hope and pray that Adam's laptop WILL load
games. And then if some poor lost soul can load
neither, I'll manage another solution.

Thanks again,

On my Mac, it runs SLOW
On my Linux box (which is where I tested it last time) it seems to run
fine.

I did notice three problems that probably have nothing to do with the
distribution format.

1) Keys on the game selection meny are flakey. You often have to hit the
buttons several times to get it to choose a game
2) Keys in the win/lose/run menu for battles are flakey. A single button
press often moves the selection two or three times.
3) When I pressed ESC or click cancel while walking around on the map
(expecting the menu) it said Error on Key Input, input == null!

Well, it seems to work for me a little better now — it still goes slow, but
not quite AS slow as in the web applet (I'd estimate about ¼- to ½-speed
from the new applet). Like I said, this is due to my computer most likely.

As for the game itself, I didn't really test it out much as the thing goes
really slow, but I did encounter the same error as James when using the
Cancel button on the main map.

Ah! Thanks for the comments. Let's see:

 1) Keys on the game selection meny are flakey.
This is because I do a lousy job simulating the DOS
timer. I'll probably end up buffering key input, so
if you hit Enter in the period that the DOS timer
wouldn't tick, it'll stay stuck until it does tick.

 2) Keys in the win/lose/run menu for battles
Absolutely. Otherwise, there's no challenge to this
battle system. (grin) Seriously, this will get fixed
when battles get added. I plan to hook the whole input
system up to a press/down/repeat system. (The game
loading screen is also flaky.)

 3) When I pressed ESC or click cancel...
Bwah? I thought I fixed that. Ooh... that's a VERY
tricky error. (Your browser cached the old WEB_FMF.jar
even after it was deleted from the server.) All three
links should be fixed. Try whichever one you want.
Make SURE to refresh the page if you're viewing the
applet. (In the future, I'll just change the page
name.)

Thanks again,
