Re: [OM Cooker] Deployment: Kahinah

Like an oauth2 endpoint or something similar?

If you have the details, I'll get around to adding it.. if it's the
standard authorization endpoint, I'm less inclined to use that, because
Kahinah doesn't take passwords...

[OM Cooker] Kahinah isn't picking up updates right now

2016-09-18 Thread Robert Xu
Why?

Short answer: I don't know.
Long answer: Nothing on both the ABF and Kahinah side has changed. So
really, I don't know. (Unless someone's modified a web server
configuration, which has broken the way Kahinah calls ABF before.)

Please use your due diligence while it's being investigated (cc'ing
om-infra - has anyone made any changes?)

(aside: and please don't comment with "why does nobody care about
infra", because I'm pretty sure everyone cares about it.)

Unlike TC meetings, which can drag on, we'll have a quick 15-30 minute

Anyway, if we are to adopt this tool, I then propose:

1. Migrate all issues to Github.
2. Redirect project.openmandriva.org to waffle.io and
issues.openmandriva.org to Github.
3. Have a further meeting once this is settled to plan out Lx 4.

Re: [OM Cooker] RRL (Rolling Release) Project management.

2016-09-15 Thread Robert Xu
On a sidenote: we have a crap-ton of repositories in
OpenMandrivaAssociation. I personally dislike that just because
there's just _too much_ (also hard to distinguish repositories), but
it should be noted that we should either disable issues on all those
repositories or add them to waffle.io (see
https://github.com/waffleio/waffle.io/issues/1814).

Just because - how on earth are people going to find
OpenMandrivaAssociation/OpenMandrivaLx when there are thousands of
other repositories hiding it? (Ignoring just linking
issues.openmandriva.org.)

Re: [OM Cooker] RRL (Rolling Release) Project management.

2016-09-15 Thread Robert Xu
A quick evaluation from my view:

Waffle.io provides only one board, but it imports all issues to the
board automatically. This might be messy now, but we can definitely
work with it (Inbox/Bugs/Requests/Backlog/In
Progress/Review/Release/Resolved).
I'm a little concerned about bug load, but we'll see how it works.

As for Github Projects, you can create multiple boards to work with
it. For example, you can create a board for every sprint. But for a
continuously evolving distribution like ours, this may not be a good
idea because it does not provide the option to automatically import
all issues to a board. This can limit us, especially when triaging
and/or maintaining tasks. (Also, I don't trust people to not "forget"
about the project management tool... again.)

Waffle.io seems like the safer option right now. We can re-evaluate
Github projects again later. (Like when Waffle integrated with it:
https://bot.waffle.io/)
I'd recommend that you try Github projects out yourself to figure out
if you like it better or not, and report back.

I have looked at it. I am attempting to be open to all options, rather
than being locked on waffle.io. If Github is adopting waffle.io's
features, then I'm trying to figure out how we can use one platform
instead of two.

(aside: Please don't assume that I haven't even looked at it if I

I'd like not to split what we have over too many services, or else

[OM Cooker] Regarding Rolling Releases

2016-09-05 Thread Robert Xu
At the last TC meeting, we talked for a good hour about rolling releases.
Following that, we decided that it's not possible at this time -- mainly
because we need to be stricter about the way we do quality control and we
need to automate more of our system.

As if to somehow laugh at the situation, the "why broken pkgs are
released?" thread appeared, and it seems to have pushed more of the issues
to the forefront.

I've written up the situation we've established from the TC meeting at
https://github.com/robxu9/documents/blob/master/openmandriva/2016-09-06-QA-improvements.md,
and I'm looking for feedback. Especially:

1. How do we improve strict quality control?
2. What can we do to improve project management?
3. How can we enforce strict quality control and project management usage?

I hope this will be an ongoing discussion. If I should cross post this to
the forums, let me know.

[OM Cooker] apologies

2016-04-25 Thread Robert Xu
I'm seeing a lot of emails w.r.t. the lack of kahinah, etc.

First, I wanted to say I'm sorry - I've been really busy wrapping up my
studies in advance for graduation. That and job applications has taken up
most of my time.

If we want ABF to have this functionality, it would be nice to allow ABF to
automatically publish to testing, and then also prevent publishing to
updates unless (x) number of people hit publish. Doing that will help
greatly.

Additionally, if ABF has any mechanism for webhooks, that would help too.
Sending automatic emails would help.

Sorry for the inactivity. If you need to reach me, just email me directly.
I'll be busy until the end of May because that's when graduation is.

That's fine - as long as xscreensaver doesn't screenlock on its own? Then
that's just doing the same thing as KDE's, just with a much uglier dialog.

[OM Cooker] can we have xscreensaver off by default?

2016-03-29 Thread Robert Xu
Hi,

Any chance we could have xscreensaver off by default? It seems to interfere
with KDE's screen locking on its own. If people need it (as was previously
justified), we can let them turn it on manually.

[OM Cooker] fyi: deadlock on qt5.6

It's a good thing we didn't jump straight to qt5.6 yet. You'll need
this patch (which will be released with qt 5.6.1):
patch: https://codereview.qt-project.org/#/c/151459/
context: https://www.reddit.com/r/linux/comments/4anurk/qt_56_released/d1264j1

I don't think this was supposed to be exhibiting symptoms on qt5.5, so
it may not be related to Ben's issue, but it's something to look at.

Re: [OM Cooker] resolvconf is coming back via openresolv

2016-03-07 Thread Robert Xu
The problem is that systemd-resolved is taking exclusive control of
DNS without the ability to take input from other sources like
NetworkManager or VPN software. That means that if systemd-resolved
gets a different DNS than what's needed, requests won't be routed
correctly. For example (something I ran into recently),
systemd-resolved takes the ethernet address of my computer, but then
doesn't catch the VPN that my computer connects to via NetworkManager.
DNS leaks and I can't access internal resources to the VPN because
they're all routing outside the VPN.

Also, openresolv isn't ancient (see
http://roy.marples.name/projects/openresolv/home).

[OM Cooker] resolvconf is coming back via openresolv

2016-03-07 Thread Robert Xu
hi,

I brought up the fact that systemd-resolved was overwriting DNS
settings in /etc/resolv.conf and not taking NetworkManager or any
other scripts into consideration a while back. I have changes pending
that I'll push soon.

I know nobody wanted to deal with resolvconf, so I'm trying out
openresolv, which is a BSD-licensed implementation. And I'm ripping
out systemd's exclusive control of /etc/resolv.conf - I'd like my VPN
back, please!

That should also fix NetworkManager's DNS settings not being
respected. I'll test it out throughly on my computer before pushing so
that I don't destroy everyone else's setup...

just a heads up,
robert

pushing to Github will trigger a build on abf.openmandriva.org
automatically? Useful? Not useful?

We're looking into why it failed, but if you hit a white screen, switch to
a tty, login as root, and install plasma-workspace, then systemctl restart
sddm.

[OM Cooker] building isos are exhausting disk space

2016-03-01 Thread Robert Xu
hi all,

building ISOs are exhausting the disk space on my server - it seems to get
stuck initialising modules and then takes up > 10GB of disk space.

log: https://nightly.rxu.io/20160301.log

hope that helps...

cheers,
Robert

p.s. I saw some requests to rewire Kahinah to use abf.openmandriva.org. The
answer right now is no - I anticipated that, tried it, and ended up having
to rewrite large portions. There is a lot on my plate right now, and given
that 2014 mirrors are still pointing to abf.io, you should be pushing to
abf.io for 2014 updates.

my current task list looks to me:
- get out another version of kahinah asap
- upgrade auth.openmandriva to support oauth2 and new CAS versions so that
we can hook up other systems
- think about lx3 promotion campaign, including articles about the various
moving parts of lx3

[OM Cooker] Kahinah is moving to Auth.OpenMandriva

2016-01-26 Thread Robert Xu
Hi all,

Kahinah will be migrating to Auth.OpenMandriva as an authentication
mechanism shortly. When that happens, you will have to re-login and
confirm your permissions with me or another QA administrator.

* What is Auth.OpenMandriva?
Auth.OpenMandriva is our Single-Sign-On solution for all OpenMandriva
services. Migration is beginning soon and services like OpenProject
and Discourse will be moving to it.

* How can I sign up?
You should sign up at https://auth.openmandriva.org/. If you have an
existing Discourse account, please use your existing username so that
your posts migrate when Discourse undergoes the same transition.

* Will anything change with Kahinah?
Kahinah will migrate to https://kahinah.openmandriva.org/. No other
further changes are expected.

Expect the migration to finish by Friday.

Robert

Re: [OM Cooker] [om-qa] Development release - dev-rel - DR

2016-01-13 Thread Robert Xu
In a way, this concept is akin to nightlies (which, by the way, are
being built at https://nightly.rxu.io/ (though the latest ones are
failing...)).

Maybe we should have a pipeline where we promote builds based on
nightlies. Dates will also help us make sure that the numbers are
increasing (and also mean something). Then, we can say something like
"we consider build 20160101 beta quality" and release it as is.

It might be easier to manage that way.

Re: [OM Cooker] XCB error - What does journalctl actually mean?

2016-01-12 Thread Robert Xu
journalctl accesses the system logs. It's what would have been put in
/var/log/messages or other places.

I'm not sure about the Xcb errors - lto? /shrug/
In OM Lx 3 on hardware or in VirtualBox when I run 'journalctl -me' I get a
lot, meaning a large number of, lines like this:

Jan 12 18:57:15 ben-pc kwin_x11[4759]: QXcbConnection: XCB error: 9
(BadDrawable), sequence: 10954, resource id: 0, major code: 14
(GetGeometry), minor code: 0

and

Jan 12 18:57:15 ben-pc kwin_x11[4759]: QXcbConnection: XCB error: 3
(BadWindow), sequence: 11879, resource id: 35651586, major code: 18
(ChangeProperty), minor code: 0

both say XCB error. Is this really an error? Why don't I see anything like
this in 2014? In general in OM Lx 3 I get a lot of stuff from journalctl
about kwin_x11, kdeinit5, and kscreen_backend_launcher. Normally in other
OS's I see mostly stuff about kernel, systemd, dbus, and networkmanager
which I have grown to think of as normal.

Ever since I've gotten used to using journalctl I've been perplexed as to
why in OM Lx 3 and *only* OM Lx 3 there are a ton of errors related to
graphical stuff and not what I think are normal 'under the hood' details of
a Linux operating system that I see elsewhere.

To be sure, currently my OM Lx 3 is working OK. Therefore I don't know that
there is a problem but the preponderance of graphical errors is concerning.

Attached is current output of journalctl -me from OM Lx 3 on partition.

[OM Cooker] Happy New Year!

2016-01-01 Thread Robert Xu
Hi all:

Hope everyone's enjoying the holiday! It's been unseasonably warm over
here at least, and I'm sure others are having warm weather as well.

A couple of things:

I'd like to get a Lx 3 release out before March. That means stopping
package version updates very soon, and testing fully underway. That's
because Plasma 5.6 is due out in March, and so is GNOME 3.20; and
we'll be delayed again if we have to upgrade everything...

The om-qa mailing list is moving to Discourse soon! If you haven't,
make sure you sign up at discourse.openmandriva.org. We'll put out an
announcement soon detailing the migration.

Lastly, have a very happy and healthy new year!

[OM Cooker] kdnssd vs zeroconf-ioslave

2015-12-14 Thread Robert Xu
So I noticed that there are conflicts between kdnssd and
zeroconf-ioslave - probably because they do the same thing.

Unfortunately, this has led to a conflict in packages - knotes,
kontact, and akonadi-notes-agent (and by extension kio-extras and
task-plasma-minimal) depend on kdnssd, but we have zeroconf-ioslave in
task-plasma as well.

Which are we going with? Last I checked for KDE4 kdnssd was a dead
package, but we resurrected it for Plasma 5..

Hi all,

I've noticed that a number of GTK/GNOME packages are on 3.18.0 (or
some variant); however, this has broken the previous gnome 3.16.*
packages.

I'm therefore asking for a version freeze exception for gnome to push
all necessary packages up to 3.18. It's a major version bump, but it's
better than trying to bring all the 3.18 packages all the way back to
3.16 again.

Looks like it's barfing on string references (splitting by commas when
there is no value? No idea.)

Anyone more C++ savvy?

(Sidenote: If you're not on 5.0.6 or later, 5.0.6 fixed a lot of problems.)

Last one failed...

As a general notice, these ISOs build at midnight UTC every day. So
20151118 was built at 2015-11-19 00:00 UTC and is labelled as the
previous day to indicate that it is a nightly of the previous day's
changes.

Re: [OM Cooker] Paris facts

2015-11-14 Thread Robert Xu
Indeed. Watching it play out on the news media (we're 6 hours behind Paris
here, so I got to watch it all horrifyingly live) was something of a shock
to me.

My heart goes out to all our French friends as well. Stay resolute.

[OM Cooker] pushed fixed genhdlist2

2015-11-13 Thread Robert Xu
Good news: I fixed genhdlist2. We need someone to add it to the repos
though and manually regenerate with the new genhdlist2.

Bad news: this was upsetting, because this slipped through due to careless
version upgrades/merging. Please try to test your changes.

If you're using it in a chroot, do `journalctl -m` and pipe the output
to a file.

Re: [OM Cooker] Power Management Service not running in OM Lx 3 Beta

2015-11-08 Thread Robert Xu
Well, I think that the lock screen is broken due to what looks like the
same reason as the polkit dialogue (bero?). As for sleep, I can't replicate
- maybe I'm doing something different?
