So what do you suggest? Can "virtual" builbots be established for "older"
OSes, and for which ones? I don't know what is causing the problem with
Ubuntu 11.10 as opposed to 10.04. Is it a very non-standard (library)
change by Ubuntu that might continue in the future? Should we switch to a
more "generic" Linux buildbot? I don't have any suggestions. I'm just
thinking...

Windows XP. I uninstalled everything, did a clean install of OOo
3.3, and then installed 3.4. Same issue with extensions, but we
already know about that.

Otherwise, it looks really good. It seems faster.

  Hi,

I would like to propose that we prepare the next set of dev snapshots
based on the revision r1299571 (same as last changed revision). It is not
the latest working buildbot revision but I would like to include an

Andrew--Thanks for the clarification. I was confused by the wording in

sorry for the confusion.

I think our long term goal is to use the build bots to build binary
versions that are identical to our binary releases as well.

And as Ariel has pointed out for this specific builds we need some
baseline systems that are not typically the latest and greatest ;-)

The Oracle release engineers put a lot of effort in keeping a stable
baseline to ensure that the builds work on as many as possible systems.
You can't it compare to build versions for a special distro.

And of course it would be ideal if the Linux distros would include AOO
over time in their distro and would build it based on the source releases.

Juergen

(I am wondering if CoinMP is deployed on the system - outside of the build
tree - when it is compiled. If so a version using a different set of g++
and ld may be on the system, and blocking it from being rebuilt.)

Anyway - it is down to the last four packages, and 'almost' builds ;-)

I confess I know NOTHING about the buildbot,

so if you can point me (and others) to some instructions that might be
helpful.

building on a such a newer Ubuntu version also brings the question about
how universal would its built packages be. By "universal" I mean if they
could be installed on different Linux distros.

For example, I use/work on Fedora 16, but had to set two Ubuntu 10.04.3
LTS (32 and 64 bits) partitions to build the Developer Snapshots: Fedora
comes with the latest and greatest standard libraries, this makes
impossible to install the packages built on Fedora 16 even on the latest
Ubuntu version due to a conflict with the system's standard libraries.

Maybe respond to your original note when the new dev snapshot is available.

Also, although it is not formally required, our project is so large
and complex that it might be worth coming up with a wiki page or a
document that outlines what is in our release, and what we've done to
make it. Focus on the license and IP side of things. Imagine what
questions the IPMC might have, and addresses these in the report.

For example:

-- LICENSE and NOTICE

- How we are treating category-b code, both in build and release

- "Mere aggregation" of dictionaries, with link to the legal-discuss JIRA issue

- RAT scans

In general, something like a "reviewers guide" to help IPMC members
review the RC.
